It appears they are related, or at least in a relationship, which is news to me as well. But I never had much in-depth study of physics.
Probably also some bad wording by the people who wrote the article.

A quasar is powered by a massive black hole. But if black holes don't exist what powers quasars?

Getting back on topic, if we can actually observe black holes in the universe, than the professor's proof of the impossibility of their existence must be incorrect in some detail.
Perhaps black hole cannot form in theoretical conditions but do form in certain natural conditions.
Of else what we are seeing is something else.

Well, technically we can only observe the behavior of entities impacted by the presence of black holes. Though, if black holes cannot possibly exists, then numerous important theories will take serious gut punches as those phenomena would need to be explained alternatively.
Well, yeah, one is a Marvel character.

Here is another article on her "discovery", that has I feel the most important bit:
The paper, which was recently submitted to ArXiv, an online repository of physics papers that is not peer-reviewed, offers exact numerical solutions to this problem and was done in collaboration with Harald Peiffer, an expert on numerical relativity at the University of Toronto.
So while she claims to have proof, we have no "proof of her proof", so to speak.
