Ok I looked at the website. Fell in love with the pretty shines. Saw there was a starter set coming out. Dished out cold hard cash (Of the debit kind). Watched some videos on playing the game. Read some of the rules available for download. Bought a teutonic Knight with a spitfire (Spitfires are cool!) no clue if he will work with whats in the starter or even how to build an army. Looking at the rules I downloaded I have been trying to figure out why or where its says that you can only have two AVA:1 Model types in a given Force or where it determines how many SWC you get. From what I gather its 2 SWC per 100 pts? Is that right? HELP ME PLEEEEEEEEEASE!!!!!!

Don't know where you got the 2 AVA 1 units per force, you might be getting that mixed up with the fact you can only field 2 Knights in PanO, unless it is the Military Order sectional. SWC is 1 per 50pts agreed on for the game, so in a 300pts game you have 6 SWC to use even if your force is only 296pts. As for building a list you should play around with one of the Army Builder online.


Welcome to the game and remember N3 should be out by the end of the year. The core stuff like Orders and ARO will stay the same, but a lot is getting reworked or a complete rewrite (like how camo works, MA, and Hacking).

See I didn't even know there was a type of sub list available. I am that much of a newbie! I really bought the knight because well, the model just gets me! I really just dig that model.

That is how I bought most of my model too. It is nice to play a game where that works as a base for list building.

I'm really excited and can't wait for Op:Ice to get to my door.. But Miniature market is telling me Oct 3 now... when I ordered it their site said available 9/18... that didn't happen =\

Corvus Belli oversold the set, so they had to print more.

Also it's important to note that when they say "Release for X month", it actually means "Release for X+1 month for the United States".

I will say that you it really, really helps to have someone teach you this game.

I like to say that other games are a simple concept that gets complicated with corner cases and special rules, and Infinity feels like a game of corner cases and special rules that evolves into a simple concept once you 'get it'.

It's the same in Australia (actually, we tend to get things after you do in the states) and I picked up my copy of Ice Storm last week.

Absolutely. You can definitely fumble through a few games and pick it up, but there's just so much to remember (we still forget Guts rolls until turn 3) that an experienced player showing you is definitely helpful. It's also worth dropping certain rules (Retreat, Loss of Leuitenant, AD deployment, hacking) for the first few games. That's not something I see recommended for many games, dropping rules, but Infinity is a harsh mistress.

That sounds like a distorted version of the Mercenary force rules.
Those let players take units from up to three (human) factions, but at half their normal AVA, rounding down. Units that have their AVA rounded down to 0 (and were thus originally AVA 1) can be taken once per 200 points of force; so, in a 400 point force, you could only have two (originally) AVA 1 models.

However, these rules are probably best avoided as a newbie. They're not tournament legal and have balance issues, resulting in a force not everyone will play against. This is not a good army to start buying.
It's much better as an exploitation of a veteran's large collection, where they both have enough models to form legal forces and can pull bits out of their multiple armies to produce one-off forces for casual play with willing opponents.

I'm not convinced these mercenary army rules will persist into N3 though. Certainly, the official army builder hasn't supported them since its Paradiso update.

Awesome. I made the decision to take the leap into infinity after watching the videos of Operation ice storm on beasts of wars website. I had seen the models and all and loved them and some folks at the flgsgave a little nudge as well. But after reading the rules download I can see where someone with experience will be of great benefit. I do plan on familiarizing myself with the rules in the box by playing thru the missions in it. IIRC they are supposed to play out similar to how GW does their starters, in that it starts with just a handful of models and only covers a few rules at a time.

Sort of - the rules in the box are quickstart rules, where as GW put the full rules in the starter. In fact, Icestorm is the starter box for 3rd edition and 3rd edition isn't even out yet.

Icestorm goes through scenarios gradually introducing you to the forces in the starter box and additional rules, but stops quite short of the full rules. Once you're familiar with Icestorm, hopefully the 3rd edition rules will be available to buy and download.

Also worth noting: all unit profiles are available, for free, on CB's army builder tool, which is handy for theorycrafting and wishlisting, as well as a tremendous convenience for listbuilding.

It can take forever to load though -_-

I hope they make it faster and less flashy for the new edition.

I've found that saving it to my browsers cache works really well to speed up the loading time.

It's been stated for awhile(I believe by Interruptor?) that the mercenary army rules are dying in N3...but that is because there are new mercenary rules coming in the form of two to three "Mercenary Contracts" for Acheron Falls.

I just keep the SWF file on my desktop.

How do I do this?

When you visit the page you can just save it (Ctrl + S). It's over 20 megabytes though, which explains why it takes so long to load.
