I think a lot of the studio painted stuff is stored away, they used to rotate it it their display hall. They used to have sample copies of various packaging and all publications that used to be displayed too.

The massive Game Day displays like Massacre as Big Tuff that were at their HQ were broken up when the museum really shrinked down. I heard it all went in the bin, whether much was saved by staff I don’t know. I guess their ‘life size’ displays went the same way, which is a shame, they haven’t been seen for years that I know of.

Man, those Heroquest and Space Crusade pics are giving me major feels.

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

Which is very common. It is often more difficult to inventory for even GIVING AWAY than it is to just write-off and throw away.

It is why even here in the USA knowing which dumpsters to dive can net you high grade steel, thousands of dollars worth, no joke. Power tools, computers, servers, etc. Most people wouldn't begin to even guess the scale of corporate garbage. I am certain that GW throws away more figures than it sells... I'd bet. Considering that the figures cost pennies on the pound to produce for them, total cost....

I have no idea what they are, the multibarreled one is an assault cannon I think.

Grav guns maybe?

Left to right ...

assault cannon, bolter, sergeant with bolt pistol and power axe, bolter, and I think the last two are crewmen for the Tarantula (from the Missionreadnought expansion). That's not a weapon they're holding, its the control panel bit that connects into the back of the Tarantula.

Some more nostalgia, I just bought a copy of the old board game "Lionheart" from the late 90s. It arrived yesterday.

Wow congratulations on reaching 10000 posts. That blows my mind.

In the pic of that battle field, a personal photo? It's a nice pic, and has that old school feel (especially seeing the razorback)

All I can think of looking at that pic is: "I spent so much money on this Realm of Battle board that I couldn't afford a table to put it on!"

Better then mine.

Hiding off to the left. I’d say ignore the other stuff in the pic, but that’s an old metal dread, and the standard bearer and foreground speeder date from 3rd. So all valid for a flashback.

I remember when it was a terrain piece in the first Apocalypse book and not a diorama.

And hey, given he's been showing up quite a bit here, here's a flashback to one of my oldest miniatures, the original Ultramarine Captain miniature, complete with metal cape and oddly short sword:

You know, I prefer the older one (not the "original", that was Mike McVey's conversion in 'Ere We Go).

Throwback Thursday didnt sound as good so welcome to Flashback Friday.
Each week we'll do a Flashback into the mists of time showcasing some older game systems/models/wargames/projects/publications etc.
Feel free to post a flashback of your own - but only on a Friday!

Today we begin with a look back at some classic GW models. Classic by the way cna have various connotations on this one.....

Oh yes, we begin with these.....classics.

Personally I love the models, they're very characterful and havent aged that badly imho. I know they get a lot of hate but have a definite soft spot with me. So much so I updated and integrated them into my Nids

Next up we have an old 2nd edition Space Wolf Terminator armed with a potent Cyclone missile launcher. Definitely need to dedust this guy though.....

Showing my age but I still have one of the Cyclone Missile launcher guys, painted as a space wolf. And he used to fight against my friend's Tyranid Warriors back in days of yore...

Only 3 dreadnoughts in the whole Chapter?

That particular picture is from the 3rd edition space marine codex, it’s the art on the back of the front cover

The full Chapter picture?

Well again that shows my age because I remember GW putting the chapter together for a Games Day.
In the 1930s (feels like).

I have the issue of WD where they showed some of this off.

Each store had to paint a squad, which is why most of them are just the basic mono-pose Tactical Squad that was available at the time.
