Of course that just means we had more time with an actual good GW!

This is true!

I kinda hoped Mantic would resurrect the good old days, but, well...ahem...

Kinda wish I had all my old stuff to show here, but I had to sell it all in the move to the US.

No shame though- when I see this stuff it still evokes how cool it all felt at the time.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weeeeird and scary to me.

Oh man, I have a drawer full of those epic LRs somewhere, from back in the confusingly named "Space Marine" set.

TGIF!

While it strikes me as a bit off to be posting 3rd ed stuff in a flashback thread (new sculpts to me!) I had snapped a shot of my stormtroopers for another thread. Thought I’d share them here:

Hush you. The ‘90s weren’t that long ago. Wait, what year is it? 2016!? Lies!

Despite being offline between RT and 5th ed, I ended up with a couple of those storm-troopers in a batch of IGs.

RIP Ulrik the Slayer. 1992-2006. First appeared in White Dwarf 156 and he was an astounding modern and detailed sculpt when I first saw him.

On an unrelated, but still older then dirt, note: Some Ogres

(I’m going to have to dig around and take some new pics, I’ve already shared most of the odds and ends in my gallery in this thread)

Starting a Necromunda campaign, gives me a chance to use tons of OLD SKOOL.

Goold ole' Uriah, and a pair of Deacons.

A Sister, a Brother, and a Zealot.

And a pack of Novices.

Enjoy!

Piggybacking on Nevelon's 3E Stormies:

I painted these up for the Heroes of Armageddon Charity Project. I love these sculpts. IMO, they're perfect examples of what a non-regiment specific, Elite IG unit should look like.

It’s never too late for a lick of paint.

He might have shown up in this thread before, I know I’ve got an old pic of him in my gallery to prove old marine ranks. But I wanted to paint something to compare how I’ve progressed over the years. While it’s easy to put a new mini next to an old one (like my terminator captains a few posts up) how much of that is the newer sculpts, and how much is painting skill improvements? So I’m doing up the good lieutenant to compare to my old lieutenant commander:

While I’m at it, I think I’m going to try to freehand the old RT captain heraldry on his shoulder. Work up some fluff to how he received a battlefield promotion to replace the fallen captain, and just had time to swap shoulderpads, and not update all his rank insignia.

I love this thread. Reading one of the old 1988 WD issues I saw an artwork that made me stop and looking at it for a while. What is that, a Stormtalon with mechanical arms ripping apart a GW store and a surprised Space Marine with a flashlight in front of it? The pic in style of the old White Dwarf loves Ronald Reagan illustration, MAD magazine meets 80s GW, I kind of like it .

Stormtalon resemblance (front, wings, missile laucher, cockpit)

Well where is the arms upgrade for the Talon, GW?

It seems they come out of the turbines?!

Either that or it is a chaos stormtalon that is on its way slowly morphing into a heldrake!

Yes, that's it. This is a Heldrake caught mid-evolution!

There are a lot of things that could be going on there. It could be a fist-pump of victory, he could be getting ready to punch someone. Or it might be an obscene gesture. I’ll leave it to viewer to decide.

But we’re Ultramarines here, so you should probably get your mind out of the gutter.
