Had a kid (I did not till later he was dealing with some mental issue's) who was playing Tau rolled very poorly against my DE on the charge. Threw a handful of dice across the table taking out DE Kabalites, Grots, two raiders, a venom and a slew of other models on another table. I came really close to loosing my temper

In the warp, searching for Marbo
|
Every so often a person(I think just random people looking to get in on the hobby) comes up while I'm playing, and picks up one of my guys off the field. I mean, come on, don't people know it's rude to just walk up and grab stuff that doesn't belong to you? This is pretty much my worst experience so far, and I hope it stays that way.
This reeeeally irritates me, but as long as they handle with care and put it back in relatively same spot i don't put up much fuss.
The odd thing is, when ever someone else accidentally drops, or knocks over one of my models, it's fine. BUT, whenever I drop or knock over my stuff, it breaks! What's up with that?

When I had a Fantasy High Elf army back when 8th first came out my nephew loved the Books Eragon and took a particular interest in my HIgh Elf Dragon lord. He snuck into my room one day and decided that he wanted to make it fly and proceeded to go outside and chuck it off the porch...into the street. Oh my Dragon flew alright, right under the tires of a big ol Jeep

My aunt's boyfriend loved my soul grinder I had just finished painting, and I was showing it off. He saw that the claw moved, and said "hey, look at my new earring". I spun around to see him dangle it from his ear...before it fell and hit the ground. From 6 feet up. Miraculously, the paint wasn't screwed up, and the breaks were clean. It was quick and easy to repair. I wouldn't speak to him the rest of the time they were visiting. I was pissed.

Not with Warhammer, but with gundam, d&d minis, mini rc, etc. It's always the kids of neglectful parents. Hold your kids hand if you take him into a hobby shop! Once was showing off a gundam rx99 neo that took me a couple of weekends over a few months to finish. I was at my local shop talking to the clerk that sold me the kit and I had the model in between us on the counter.
Suddenly a wild douchebag appeared and stuck his hand in between our conversation. This cretin picks up my model, and as I turned to tell the fool off, his eyes locked with mine. The shear deathlook I gave him must have been too much. He twitched and dropped my rx99 on the floor... breaking a few pieces off.
The scrawny worm was an adult in his mid 20's. I raged and demanded he make it right. He said he was broke and quickly left the shop. The shop clerk talked to the owner and they gave me a new model. A few days later when I went back, there was a nice pair of signs on the window and across the counters. It read:
PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH ANY MODELS THAT DO NOT BELONG TO YOU. THEY ARE NOT TOYS!

Luckily anytime I've played people didn't touched or have been incredibly gentile with handing me a model so no complaints with that (its easy to spot the people who are careful with painted models and the ones why just toss spray painted models into a box or bag).
My 6 year old son loves to look and play with my figures but he understands that they aren't like his toys and must be really careful and always ask before touching. Had maybe 2-3 ork boys or firewarriors take a tumble to the floor by accident but at worst it was an arm that popped off at the glue joint (why i love superglue, easy to fix failure point).
I rather him understand how delicate they are and learn to handle them properly than forbid him from going near them and one day having temtation overcome him and have a broken resin model or shattered vehicle.

I haven't had many bad experiences. I sometimes see this kid who has an annoying habit of checking out models in the game.
He never asks for permission, just grabs and takes them. But it kind of doesn't even bother me. I break my models so often that my opponents can't make it worse.
But what bothers me is that he just doesn't seem to comprehend that you can't just take the models in the middle of the game and place them back somewhere (not always even next to the unit he took it from).
My worst experience is however my own mistakes.
I was playing last night and during the game I dropped a die. Oh well, bent down to pick it and spotted that it fell into the case of a player next to me, where he was storing his titan.
It was awfully embarrassing to try finding it in his stuff as he was in the middle of playing. In the end I just asked him and I moved the titan's arm so I could pick it.
So in the end no feelings or models were hurt.

Someone knocked over my forgeworld resin mawloc and shattered it into 100 pieces. Was not pretty.
Someone knocked over my GK box with a back pack. The thing was a foot away from the edge of the table but a pokemon guy turned and his pack strap caught the edge and he dragged it off the table and I still haven't found all the heads, arms, and weapons.

Ancient Venerable Black Templar Dreadnought

I usually put magnets in models that have options to them like dreadnaught arms.
During one game a friend of mine tried to be funny and was doing a Robby the robot impression with my fully painted dreadnaught.
It was one from the box set and I had glued that arm on (couldn't be bothered to add magnets)... he snapped it clean off.
The look of horror on his face I think I will carry to my deathbead... I think I saved him from a heart attack by laughing so hard everyone crowded around to find out what was so funny.
I installed magnets in that model and all was well with little work, the one repair job on a model I felt no hostility over.
The random grabbing of models by strangers seems to be the big issue any time I play where I am surprised of the level of rage/anxiety I feel of my hard work at risk.
This guy I know has a FANTASTIC painted army of Grey Knights and I ask him how long it took for various models and he rattles off some unholy amount of time.
He would then say "You can pick them up if you want." and I would say "They are just fine where they are...": Why put yourself in a position where you could not be forgiven?

It is rather depressing reading this thread, I know I've lost models before, but I seem to have mentally suppressed the memories. I will say though, I own two Cygnar Storm Striders - In order to get them to fit into the case I use for transport, I magnetized the torso to the legs. The number of times that the top half has fallen off is particularly annoying.

This one's not really another person touching my mini, but it wasn't exactly my fault.
So I'm driving home from my FLGS, my case was on the back seat, my Stormraven sitting happily on the floor. Suddenly as I'm in a roundabout, a guy doesn't give way to me, I stamp on the brakes to avoid smashing him, luckily my car stops just in time. The case however flies forward, drops on the Stomraven and smash. Considering I avoided the car crash I was happy to take the smashed Stormraven.
Karma hit the guy, he ran a red light two minutes up the road and was pulled over.

I used to know a painting critic that would select miniatures of mine that didn't meet his exacting painting standards and promptly knock them unto the floor. He would then stare blankly at me while I cried. That would make him hungry, and he'd demand food. Pictured below is the painting critic.

Some punkass bitch came to my house for a party my sister was throwing. I was in my hobby room and this fool wandered in, and immediately started playing with my miniatures like they were little action figures. The balls on this guy.
The second he touched a miniature and knocked another one over, I got up and pushed his chubby-ass out of the room, and then dragged him up the stairs and threw him and his brother out of my house.
My sister got mad, and I told her to shut her trap or I'd snitch to my parents she was having a party in the first place.

Worst experience? This is an easy one.
I was at a GW Grand Tournament playing Warhammer. I won my first two games and during the break in between decided I'd leave my miniatures on my display board on the table, and go to buy something to eat and possibly use the rest room. When I came back ten minutes later, my army was all over the table, with about 20 to 30 models broken to pieces and with a lot of paint damage. A nearby player comes to me and says: "Yeah, so this kid and his father were looking at your miniatures, and apparently the kid leaned on your display board somehow and caused the whole table to flip so your army fell on the floor. Then I saw them pick up your models and quickly toss them back on the table and leave".
Noone tried to stop the people responsible or even ask their names. The tournament organisers did nothing. In fact they asked me if I need to forfeit since I was busy trying to do some field repairs to my models and was late for starting the next round. I was pretty outraged.
It was a commission pro-painted army.
That has to be the worst.
P.S. I continued playing and placed tied 1st overall.

I argued with the TOs for quite some time because they didn't even bother to get the kid's father's name and phone number. I remember saying that personally I hold the witnesses partially responsible for making it so that I can't get any compensation whatsoever.
Despite being about as traumatic as anything regarding miniatures can get, it all ended reasonably happily as I placed well in the tournament, and the person who had painted my army was so sympathetic to the events that he agreed to repair and re-paint the damaged models again for free.

I take pride in the work I do on my guardsmen, both painting and scratch building. And my boys like to paint some of my "extra" pieces and even "play" their own game while I am painting or building. I have nooo problems with them.
The problems were with my now EX. She got pissed off at me in one of her bi-polar fits and purposely knocked a bunch of tanks (in their transport boxes) to the floor breaking a few pieces off them. I tell her "big deal". She then proceeds to pick up my scratch built Vulture and throw it to the floor. Because I know how to build my stuff nice and sturdy, only a few pieces broke off. My boys came in the living room soon after she did her damage, and I pointed out to them what mommy had done. They were none to happy with her.
Since then, I havent had any problems from her at all and my boys still like working on their guard.

Just reading that reminds me of my younger years playing lacrosse, both on the field and in the net. At least hockey goalies get to have leg pads. Once took 6 shots off my left knee in a game. Swelled up to triple size that night. And yes, concussions were there.
I actually learned through lacrosse the lesson of " Keep your hands off my stuff before I stab your hand into the table" 3 of my long poles and even a goalie stick got bent by people borrowing them. Good alloy/material long poles usually run around $140+, so I learned the truth that sharing is not a good thing.
So because of that I've never had a problem with people touching my stuff because I immediately quash any attempts to look with anything beyond eyes. This has worked for rule book, mini's and other personal objects.

Worst case I can think of was a few years back at the Conflict tournaments GW used to run.
GW had turned the conflict tournaments into mini games days which meant kids, lots and lots of kids running around. But whatever we had our own separate area that was blocked off. So anyway, during lunch most of the tournament goers went to the surrounding area for food and we came back only to find that the security guard at the door was gone, and the tournament area was loaded with kids, picking up and touching models and moving them around from table to table.
Needless to say some guys lost their tempers pretty quickly only to get in arguments with the parents of the vile groin spawns and got pretty ugly. Afterward many players had discovered they were missing models, rulebooks, dice and numerous other things from the kid raid.

Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!
