There are plenty of times that a Librarian has a helmet, they just stopped giving us models that don't use them except for Severin Loth. Honestly, I am buying the new SM Librarian model and since the plastic (NOT FINE CAST! Thank the Emperor!) pieces have an independent head, my GK Paladins are graciously donating their helmet to the Librarian for his loyal service to the GK.

You going to put a helmet on the little flying cherub?

I'm in the same boat, though I believe everyone deserves a helmet. As it stands though, to make a minor joke, Wisdom does not equal intelligence.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

That Cherub is no going onto the model unless it leaves an obvious disfigurement to the model as a whole.

I still have this guy waiting for a repaint. Still a great model IMO

I don’t blame you. That little guy (plus the $30 pricetag) kept me from picking up the new librarian. Otherwise I quite like the model.

With exception to the Rune Priest in Terminator Armor, most Librarians within in the models and pictures depict Librarians without wearing helmets and is there a piece of fluff that explains this? I like having most of my Space Marines and Grey Knights depicted with their helmets on usually because in a battle, I think it is foolish to not be wearing your helmet and I just don't like painting faces. I go to the point of using a GK Terminator to make my GK Librarian because the model actually looks like a GK (The SM Librarian in Terminator armor just does not speak GK to me, even when it is painted silver) and because I can give him a helmet and it kind of still looks like the GK Terminator is wearing a Psychic Hood. A lot of the models are hard to modify except maybe the new SM Librarian that came from the release of the new codex that came with them.

using psykic powers inside of a closed helmet is apparently sorcery. Rune Priests and CSM psykers are all about it, but not codex chapters.

Yeah, the $30 is quite a price tag but I want my Librarian to look awesome since it is my favorite unit besides Centurians. I bought the fine cast Librarian in Terminator armor, painted him completely like a GK and after I was done, took one look at him and said "Nope, modifying one of my GK Terminators to look like a Librarian." So I took one of my GK Terminator Justicars and painted his tabard blue to signify his office and gave him a bunch book type items to give him the Librarian feel while still feeling like a GK. Plus, that giant book on top of the Librarians head is dumb and even when painted silver, he looked like a normal SM. I also don't like a lot of the generic looking Librarians. All the named ones look awesome and the Librarian that comes in the Dark Vengeance set is also awesome but any of the other regular Librarians except the new one are kind of lack luster in my opinion which is why I am just buying that one. I would love to get the one from Dark Vengeance but feel like I would have to modify it too much. I have also been tempted to buy Loth and scratch off his Red Scorpion symbol and place an Imperial Fist there instead. But buying the new one and giving him a paladin helmet should be enough to make him look awesome. Hopefully that Cherub doesn't have to come along.

That's utterly ridiculous. The helmet is taller than he is.

Fluffwise I remember one book having a Librarian from the Blood Angels or one of their successors asked why he doesn't wear a helmet and replying he has 2 reasons. It impedes their vision and it dulls their psychic senses. Although I believe he was also in and out between Terminator armour and Power Armour so the answer makes more sense, it would impede his vision inside Terminator armour.

I really think it is a combination of the psychic hood and the strange notion from GW that being helmetless is cool!

it is, but for some reason it is also on of my favorite models. I have a bunch I have converted into different version with different weapons and so on. Changing the helmet is always difficult.

It is a nice classic. It is what, 13 - 15 years old? Or is it from 1997? Either way, looks great considering the age!

Love the Tigurius conversion.
Sevrin Loth is probably the best librarian model, and he has a helmet.

The answer to the question is definitely 'rule of cool'. If you want fluff consistency then say there is a forcefield on his head, so snipers bullets are wasted.

Some older models wear them but I think they fit wear helmet because they need to channel their energy and the helmet might be blocking

There was nothing that confirmed this claim in the fluff and there are plenty of models that of course don't wear it. Also if that was true, then all of the GK would be without helmets. Also, Loth of the Red Scorpions wears a helmet and he is a pretty damn good psyker.
