There is nothing wrong with puting a review of such an overhyped hard to find Infinity item in News and rumors. It's where people will look first before purchasing the second run and I'd rather inform people of what they are not getting for the steep price tag.

People keep comparing the book to FW Masterclass, except FW MC are MUCH better quality books, I have had my book for a few days and the corners are already damaged. Not worth the price tag IMO for actual book quality OR content. I have many more and texts from book stores on how to art that were of comparable quality for fractions of the cost, with better content.

Buyer be warned.

Still waiting for my book. Supplier is E Figs on east coast, and preordered it the second I was able from my FLGS. Basically I just want the new Joan

ACTUAL infinity news though!!!

Mayanet for Ipads released version 1.3 aka all updated for N3 rules for stats/points/weapons. Download now! Its free! IT doesent have all the wiki stuff and thats kind of in a weird state at the moment, but it does link back to some of those rules if they are from the non core rulebooks.

Kind of sad when a 3rd part makes such a great army builder in their free time and releases it before CB does. and they pay them at CB to build it...

Well, there's one guy at CB doing all the Army 5 stuff, along with working on their web development I believe. He had a leave for a major family issue that took him away for like a month or so.

Still, proper planning prevents piss poor performance.

Simply put?

They wanted Army 5 to be super flashy, with a built-in "assistant" and other such nonsense.

I cannot think of a single person who actually wanted that.

It's nice that there is an army builder that is fully updated for N3. Too bad it is completely useless to me as I don't have an iPad.

CB, unfortunately, has to make their product compatible with multiple platforms, and they also have to get it right on the first try.

In fact, I insist.

Again, it's not simply the fact that "they have to make their product compatible with multiple platforms".

They've stated that they want it to be some kind of crazy thing with pop-out links, an "animated assistant", and some other nonsense that is useless and bloating the development necessity.

My understanding is that the initial version is not even supposed to include all that. It's just supposed to be the equivalent of Army 4, in term of functionality, but based on HTLM5 instead of flash.
In other words, they don't even have the excuse of having all those features, it's just bad planning. They really, really, failed at project management for the release of N3.

^^This would be the reason why.

^^ and this would be a good statement to the planning of the backend of the N3 release.

Or alternatively it's a free tool they don't have to give anybody....

Yes doing so also has benefits for them, but probably not as much as you'd think, as those who actually 'need' it are those heavily invested enough in infinity that they'd carry on playing anyway

if you're just starting and have a handful of minis a bit of paper is more than enough to make up your list

Well patience is a virtue advised, you will be happy with the new army when it is released, it just takes time.

I am afraid that I have to agree that the transition was not great. The rules are spread over loads of books, not all of which CB provide as pdfs on their new website. They released the profiles several weeks later, in a single file so large and image heavy as to routinely crash my ipad. All in, I find it significantly more irritating and difficult to do army building now than in N2, even though the rules themselves have been significantly improved.

The army builder also being remarkably delayed - though still not as badly as the D&D5e tools - doesn't help either.

Ack. -V- has set aside work on the Army Builder for the time being to concentrate on the ITS 2015 stuff, according to his most recent post on the Infinity forums-- Well, el foro, not the forum.

I find the delay in the Army Builder has been a good thing. I have had to go through and pay more attention to the details of the lists I am making. A good learning experience. YMMV.

Since it is not mentioned here yet, Bostria gave a presentation at an event in Madrid this past week-end. Video in Spanish here;

I haven't watched it but the interesting things seem to be: 14000 copies of Angels book (guau!). Alguacil Hacker will come in a blister. New Moto.tronica terrain pack is in the works. 10000 copies of Icestorm sold in 2014 (Ha ha, they thought 5000 would be enough. Suckers. Oh wait....) and something like 10000+ copies sold of the N3 books ( they are nice books, BTW) . 80% growth last year.

Now that is some nice news, eh?

People learn just fine fooling around with lists in an army builder too. YMMV

Sorry, I just hate weird comments like that. Silly rationalizing.

I think it's a mistake to focus on ITS instead of the builder in the same way it's a mistake to focus on ITS while the release is still in such an incomplete or disorganized state.

Their growth was greater, but that doesn't really help get the game going in areas when people starting communities have to deal with the lack of a point of consolidation for the game. ARMY 5 was supposed to be such a point, but now they're shifting work away from that towards something that would also clearly benefit from a point of consolidation.

Hunh Oh, don't bother. I won't read it.

The N3 release is done, that is to say complete. Disorganized, well, yeah.

Anyway, the current rumor is 10 March for ITS and 12 March for Army Builder. This according to the Mayacast Podcast.

That's fine, it's a forum after all. Head in sand doesn't help a game get better. Just look at how GW turned out.

And this is why I no longer recommend people buy the rulebook. Glad it did well for them financially, which is what they wanted, but it's a train wreck in terms of edition transition. The fact that it's free online is more an indication that people who bought the $80 thing wasted money.

How is this relevant to news still? Because not all news is positive.

March 12 for ARMY5 is at least some indication that they understand they need a point of consolidation, so they didn't delay it that long.

But people are still playing without fully updated expansion books and a half-baked FAQ. Just last week a had a guy break open the rulebook to try and find the rules for abilities and weapons that weren't there. Not his fault for thinking an $80 rulebook would be complete, or that the updated PDFs for expansions don't have an official link.

But hey, just in time for ITS right?

I may seem harsh, but we deal with this a lot in video game development which has tighter deadlines. I really hate seeing this in tabletop game development.

The rulebook should have been an 'all-in-one' deal for the rules to the game itself. They needed to have taken the time to get everything sorted for the one book. Having it spread over old editions is helping no one, and not increasing their sales.

However, in regards to unit profiles, I would have been fine if they had of left them out of the main rulebooks. You never know how things are going to change, so whilst having them there is nice, they would be better kept as a live list on their website/army builder.

Also, if you see how long the unit profiles is in the PDF they gave us to download, it would have been its own book just by itself! So long as the unit profiles were available to download when the rules were released, that would have been fine.

I am hoping their army builder comes online soon, I am interested in checking out how it all comes together, being that I am not an Apple user.

Hmm...

I'm starting to to think that an N3.1 would be rather nice.

Three books:

Rules, include HS and CP.

Army book.

Fluff book.

They could release them separately or in a bundle. Maybe do hardcover.

I'd be happy with the idea and it wouldn't trip my "oh my God, I'm getting ripped off!" fuse.

Not that everyone else is going to see it that way...

We all knew more than a year in advance that the rulebook would not include the expansions,

I do not get the free online comment, you wanted the book to be only available as a physical to pay copy?

The delay of some parts as regrettable as it may be has more depth and reason behind it than people realize and it is because foundations for a better system support and faster updates have been set for them to happen.

Honestly comparing CB to GW is as wrong a it can ever get, polar opposites come to mind.

As to why ITS is important? well it is important to most players so yes, it does become important.

Edit

And since this is the news section and nobody posted it

From the Mayacast podcast
March miniature releases:
Akalis Spitfire
Bounty Hunter
Azrail Feuerbach, as big as the yan Huo
Yaogat Box of 4
Jaguars Box of 4
New ITS miniature - Le Muet, can be hired by every generic faction including Combined and Tohaa

Ooooh, interested to see what the new Bounty Hunter is like.

I'm trying to collect as many as I can of them, that way whatever is rolled on the Bounty Hunter equipment table, I can use a miniature that represents the characteristics.

And seeing Le Muet of course! Anything with that badge/icon has got to be cool..

Considering the amaount of information they did it the best way possible.

> HS and CP are optional rules, so they better stay in the books they belong to. The only thing missing is an N3-version of both books, but I think we will get some upgrade to these books some day in the future.

> Rulebook, fine as it is, it is already a fat book and cramming in additional optional rules would only have made it more daunting for beginners.

> Profiles are much better as a PDF since changes are much easier to facilitate without having a mix of book and printed out pdf.

> PDF being late? With this amount of data they better take their time and do a good job especially with regard to balance. How pushing them harms quality we just saw when quite some people got anal about the profiles not being released earlier.

Very much looking forward to the Jaguars, new Azra'il and Yaogat and Le Muet. Should be a good month.

It took me three minutes during a game to find the profile for a SMG. This is not a great play experience. Now that Mayanet is out things should be better, though.

The Azra'il I'm really interested to see. I never liked the old ones that much, and a big fat model could be fun to use (though it is better to be smaller, in Infinity) and also might be a great painting item.

Nope. That's completely false. Those are not optional rules, and they should have been folded into N3, with the other rules.

What rules are in HS and Paradiso that are missing from N3? Im a new player still going through the N3 pdf so I'd like a heads up of what to not overlook in the other pdf.

Although it's not really important if I do miss rules. Im just going to play at home with my pano and nomad because the closest Lgs is too far out the way for me to bother going to midweek for their infinity night.
If all else fails, I'll just build an awesome table to collect dust on. Which isnt a hard feat since my house is permanently dusty no matter how much I clean.

Mostly, a bunch of weapons and weapons special rules, about half the Equipment and Special Skills, the Spec Ops rules, and the Fireteam rules.
