So 2 months ago tomorrow I quit smoking cigarettes for the first time in 10 years. Like everyone who has quit, it is hands down the best decision I've ever made. I quit using a E-cig and have slowly stepped down the amount of nicotine to 0 now I will be quitting the vape. I have had zero urges to smoke a cig in the past 2-3 weeks which feels amazing. It is pretty wild to think to that for the first time in almost 12 years I am completely sober(quit doing drugs a few years ago not gonna go into that one) and cigarette free. So this is a thread to post up your success stories or ask for help and support. Or just general vaping, quitting, whatever chitchat.

Sorry for the self serving post haha but I needed to get it off my chest a little bit ;p

Good job, man. I stopped smoking about two years ago, but I'm still doing snus. I am gonna kick my nicotine habit entirely though, and hopefully the tax raise will put the nail in that coffin for me.

Again, good job

It's totally possible jasper! Just keep at it you can do it! Remember days 2-5 are the hardest then it only get easier from there.

@aesop yah marlboro's are 11$ a pack here it's insane and definitely a driving factor in why I quit.

No one likes a quitter

(I'm joking of course) Good on ya mate!! I still have the occasional cigar, but briefly smoked prior to my first deployment (oddly, I chose one of the worst times to quit smoking, but was successful at it, but for probably different reasons)

The E-Cig method is the least painful way to quit smoking. Well done!

Similar story here - smoked for about 8-10 years...quit after the army. Used an E-Cig and cut down to 0 nicotine slowly over time. Now I use it occasionally just for giggles but if I don't have access to it all day, it doesn't bother me at all.

It's really nice being able to hop on a plane, sit in the office, etc. without getting antsy for a cigarette or having to go outside.

If you've having trouble quitting, try an E-Cig. Seriously...I don't recall a single instance during the entire process that I thought, "Oh man this really sucks."

That's awesome jihadin and Nuggz! Can't wait till I am at the point I start closing in on major milestones like 1 and 2 years. Obviously this is a life choice that I don't intend to go back on. However, every milestone will definitely make me feel better about it I'm sure.

Celebrated today with a 2 mile jog which I haven't been able to do in almost 5 years due to injuries and smoking. Felt amazing to feel sore.

I have had one cigarette in the last thirteen weeks. I smoked since I was about 14 or 15, obviously not as heavily when I was just a kid and I never really got up to more than a pack a day. But I felt like quitting would be impossible.

Honestly it is not impossible -- that's what everyone who wants to quit needs to know.

It's true that it is different for everyone but it is possible.

Ecigs did not work for me. They just made me have terrible cravings for real cigarettes. So I did it cold turkey and thank God it has been ok so far.

Congrats! wish you the best of luck. It is such a better way of life. If anyone needs a little help quitting I VERY highly recommend Allen Carr Easy Way To Quit Smoking. I smoked for 18 years and quit no problem after reading the book. http://www.amazon.com/Allen-Carrs-Easy-Stop-Smoking/dp/0615482155

Haven't smoked in about 4 years, but I get cravings every now and then. Not for the actual cigarette, but the smell of cigarette smoke always reminds me of good times with my Dad

I love the smell of cigarette smoke, but since I quit I've only had two or three cigarettes, and it almost made me gag each time. So the actual smoking is entirely out of my system.

Congrats chap

I need to quit. But after 3 failed attempts, I don't know. I think the biggest problem is I still enjoy it. Plus, work stress and I'm in the process of buying a house. I've always read that it has to be the right time for you to quit. Did you guys find this, or could you all just stop?

I promised myself I would quit before turning 30 back in 2005 or so. I quit a few days before my 30th birthday. I'm not saying everyone or anyone needs 9 years. But for me, it was important to keep that promise.

I think for me it was definitely the right time to quit. Not saying it was "the right time" I had just reached a breaking point where a few factors came into play if that makes any sense. I turned 30 and needed to make a change because I've been stuck in a rut, I no longer wanted to pay for cigarettes, I felt like crap all the time coughing when I woke up and couldn't walk up stairs without being out of breath. I was constantly going outside to be away from my daughter and yet she still had a cough which is now gone.(I never smoked anywhere near her but the smoke clinging to me minutes later clearly had an effect)

What's funny with me I guess is that I cannot stand the smell of second hand smoke. Even when I was smoking a cig if someone came up next to me smoking one as well, i couldn't stand it and would want to leave.

My partner was a big smoker, on a 20 pack a day habit, she gave up. I never smoked as much as she did and was mainly a social smoker, but decided that it's the best thing to do and if she can do it, so could I. She has been smoke free for over 2 years, I have been for over a year. She tried to give up with nicotine gum a few times, but started smoking again. The time she actually gave up, she just went cold turkey. I did as well. I think you have to try to find the best way for yourself. Normal gum is a life saver I find. Those times when you might have a cigarette, say in the car, are filled up with normal gum.

It's hard at times, especially on a night out, I still get the craving for a cigarette when there's a lot of beer flowing. But the hangovers are so much better now, the smoking made them so much worse. So I remind myself of that.

You have to do it when it's right for you and not because you're being hounded to do it. My friends brothers were always having a go at her for smoking. She would supposed to be giving up all the time but ask me for a cigarette, so because she asked I would always give her one. Not done to spite the brothers, but because she wasn't ready to yet.

Well done to the OP, sounds like you have made some great life choices and you're on the way to getting yourself to where you want to be

No pity, no remorse, no shoes

I read that as "20 packs a day" first.

That would have been... ambitious

That actually works though. Individuals I know who wanted to quit brought a cartoon of smoke and literally chain smoked as much as they could/able to handle. Like I drank to much Tequila in 95 that I can not stand the sight of that evil SoB of a Uncle Ceurvo

Definitely. That kind of "overdose" is what made me stop eventually. I absolutely could not stand drawing in smoke in the end, so kicking the smoking habit was easy for me.

Kicking the nicotine habit, however... Still working on that.

After this, my eating habits are the next thing that gets addressed haha. Not that I'm fat or anything but whatevs. Basically one vice at a time I'm going to turn myself into a healthy individual. "Healthy helps with happy" is my new mantra for myself.

Edit:also thanks for support everyone . It helps and it is why I posted the thread, for me or anyone else who might be struggling know there are people in the same boat and we're all fighters and can accomplish anything we put our minds to.
