I am partial to Hendricks Gin - it is very tasty and unlike most commercial gins. Kraken is good - I heartily recommend that. Neil Peart swears by Macallan - I haven't tried it as I loathe whisky.

Sweet, sweet Italian Almond Liquor. Stuff is smooth, 26% Alcohol, and delicious.
It's about $17 a pint, so it is on the more expensive side.

Macallan is excellent. Spendy, though.
Disarono, yum that stuff is great.
And the american honey is good, dangerous too it tastes so good you could easily down half a bottle and get completely wasted.
If you like orange flavor, try Harlequin, it's kind of like Grand Marnier, only not as expensive. Very sweet and smooth.
I mixed it with Monster energy drink a few times on some gaming sessions. My god that drink sounds like an abomination, but it was actually quite good with lots of ice.

Ahhh, Scotch. Macallan is good, but on the more expensive side. Expect to pay about 15-20% more compared to the other common brands (Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, etc.). A Macallen 12 year is as good as some other brands' 15+ years. But, in my experience so far, you can never go wrong with Macallan. 12-year Glenlivet doesn't do much for me, but I do like the bottle of 18-year I splurged for on my birthday. Glenmorangie has a nice sweetness to it I like, plus, bonus geek cred if you recognize it as the scotch Connor MacLeod ordered in the bar while tailing Brenda in Highlander. Glenfiddich, eh, maybe I need to try an older bottle like with Glenlivet, the 12 year doesn't do much for me. I've tried a few others, but their names escape me. One was a Bal-something, the other was a special Glenlivet, Nadurra, I think. A good, aged tequila isn't clear, and is also great for just sipping. I also highly recommend Port. Very enjoyable, and not too expensive to try different brands as long as you don't go for vintage or old bottles. I know you ruled out "clear" drinks, but I also enjoy Crystal Head and Chopin Potato vodkas for sipping.

If you're out near Tennessee way. I highly recommend Chattanooga Whiskey company's 1816 whiskey.
Also, I'm a fan of Ruby Port (I personally don't go for tawny or the other stuff)
Kraken is a pretty good rum, as is Shellback Spiced Rum.
Single Malt Scotch is really my thing though. If you're wanting smooth, I would seriously stray away from anything with Islay on the label, as nearly all Islay malts are "smoky"
Highland and Speyside tend to be on the smoother side, though some Speyside can be smokey as well. I recommend Dalmore 15 year single malt, as well as the Dalwhinnie 15 year single malt. Automatically Appended Next Post: KingCracker wrote:

On this note, if you're local liquor shops are large enough you should have Mead available. One word of caution on mead though, is seriously read the whole label!!! The first bottle of "mead" that I bought was disgusting, and when we read the label again, realized that it said "White Wine with Honey"

As far as straight hard liquor, Capt'n Morgan Commemorative Blend: 1671 is crazy good. Very strong vanilla, so smooth it's shocking (for reals), and the bottle is amazingly cool. Really easy sipping rum.

I'm a fan of brandy myself. The VSOP is quite inexpensive compared to other higher-end spirits such as Scotch, and it's quite smooth and warming. It mixes well with hot drinks too so it's great for this time of year. (STRAIGHT brandy mind you. Stay away from the flavored stuff, it's gross.)
I'm with you on the clear liquors, the best are tasteless, and the one time I drank gin I became massively sick.

Im NOT a bartender, but thought it'd be "fun" to try and make the James Bond martini (either a Vesper, or 007, depending on exact ingredients used)
Holy feth... 007 is a damn alcoholic!!

If your after a good single malt our some such I'd recommend this..
It's pricey at $80 a bottle, but it's mighty fine. If you are willing to spend more then I'd recommend the Oban 18 yr. It's around $150 a bottle though so....

Try some mead. Preferably home brewed (much better flavor, assuming they don't use a champaign yeast), but Chaucers is a pretty good mass produced one.
For extra old school, get a good horn to drink from (and remember: hold like a bow or get a schnoz full of mead).
