The Coven supplement seems to have a lot of different ways to play with Dark Eldar. Particularly interested in that masses Talos Detatchment. Is it, like 5-12 Talos or something.

How many people are excited about how 7th is opening up and opening up ways of fielding your army...?

Yeah, I'm super excited about a bunch of different ways to run assault units with nearly no tanking killing power in an edition of shooting and vehicles.

Hopefully 8th edition throws assault a little more of a bone.

I think it looks fun...but I couldn't see it being worth the points cost. That and you don't need 5 of them in a unit...kind of overkill. Maybe it is just dumb luck, but my single Talos Engine usually pulls some crazy MVP move once per game, so I have gotten some good results from mine. But 5 seems like way too many to be effective.

You will not be missed....

That Haemy with Chronos and Talos, is a really great unit.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Think 7th is a less shooty edition than 6th. Partly with tournaments using a lot more LOS blocking terrain. We had a slow grow league at our club which included Space marines and multiple Tau and Eldar armies. The first two places were taken by TWC based Space Wolves lists. I don't like the idea of having to deal with 5 Talos dropping in my backfield turn one and getting an extra victory point for every unit they munch through....

If anyone's taking Wracks (i.e actually using the detachment and not just the 5 Talos formation), how are you all equipping them? I've got some coming in to assemble, and I'm trying to figure out how to run them.

The current way I see it, I'm really not sold on the Liquifier guns this edition because S3 flamers are a lot worse than S4 flamers, but the SkaredCast video on Wracks makes the case that you don't want to keep your guys back and plinking away with an ossefactor, even though it's more reliable -- he wants them getting into close range where the liquifiers can have synergy with their 2 poisoned CC weapons. The issue I'm having with this strategy is that I'm not sure that venoms really want to be that close to enemy lines as to allow for flamers from disembarking/embarked wracks to do damage.

Two liquifier guns are possible in a 5-man venom squad, but 2 ossefactors aren't. You can do an Ossefactor and a hexrifle for ranged plinking alongside venom shooting, but I'm not a fan of the hexrifle either (1 4+ shot as a special weapon doesn't really do it for me, and the unreliability of either ID or Rending is also not good when you've only got one shot) Also, the ossefactor is 24" range, and there you're already getting hit by small arms, so maybe it is just better to go with liquifier guns or nothing? 5 w/ 2 liquifier guns (needing acothyst) in a standard venom comes to 155, whereas keeping them w/o upgrades brings it down to a little over 100.

Would anyone recommend putting a larger unit (or with ICs) in a raider instead? Or just keeping them 5-man bare in a venom to save on weapons costs?

They don't drop into the backfield. They inch forward 6" before the game and then start foot slogging at you. They are about as useful as any deathstar on foot.
They do suffer from some hard counters (like a single dreadknight). If you're opponent is highly mobile, they aren't going to do much at all.

Coven armies have no reliably way to deal with heavy armor. And a unit of 5 taloi (taloses?) die to a single Imperial Knight.....

In the current meta, I feel that DE have been relegated to: Dark Eldar: An Eldar Supplement

To be honest, I now run Coven units as a separate detachment so I can benefit from some of the awesome toys that Haemonculus get!

Plenty reliable. Just not cheap.

O come now, they have a chance, not a very good one but a chance. With haywire balsters or heat lances they could do some damage.

It's a terrible codex, but does give CWE some fun.

I've been doing pretty well the other way around. About 2/3rd DE and 1/3rd Eldar.

I don't really see a Coven army as viable. The Scalpel Squad is good (and ~230 to 300 points depending on gear), the Grotesquerie is awesome (if you own ~10-15 grotesques). Corpsefiend is decent enough, as long as you spam tank killing with the rest of your points.
To me, Coven is a $50 book of only ever run 1 of these things at a time.
If the Haemonculu toys are good, please enlighten me. They all look like garbage.

the haemy/cronos/talos unit is awesome. the boost to WS really helps the cronos and the I boost really helps both monsters. its going to murder anything it attacks and the fact that they are going to pop in through a webway whereever they want? its not a super cheap unit, but you could probably take the formation twice for 700 ish points. scares me plenty.

wracks arent particularly good regardless how you run them. that said, its not like theyre unusable. if you need to take some, im sure you can prod them to doing something half useful, but theyre just going to be grunts.

i really think you need to play with Webway as often as possible and really focus on it. two units of grotesques hitting through a webway is ridiculous.
