It is informal, so no worries there.

I'm guessing the usual pics of before, during and after?

Let's get a consensus (!) here and then launch!

Yeh go ahead and start if you wish or if you already have something you never finished that's fine too, nice and relaxed. I just need know what the plan actually is in case I need to jump in and guide things along at some point.

Alpharius wrote:I'm guessing the usual pics of before, during and after?
Yep, I think we should aim for a picture of where you are at the start, a picture of the finished piece and as many work in progress pictures as you can during the competition. No secret entries, this should be all about throwing the Exrah into the limelight.

For sure, do we want a new thread like we normally do? Or we have this one and your Caskuda one which we could use either of.

Also what timescales are we wanting to follow?

OK before, during and after sounds good. And Casey i think you send mid Dec for finishing which gives a decent amount of time and wraps things up before xmas. As this thread is already called Exrah painting comp we might as well leave the pictures in here?

Agreed!

Announce it far and wide!

No 'official' prize support, but maybe CB will take pity on the EXRAH and whomever is deemed the 'winner' here and grant them a boon of some sort!

Cool, we'll stick with the Christmas thing and maybe Shae will throw a prize in at some point. I'll think about emailing Corvus after we get going to alert them to what we are doing and see if they want to 'get involved.'

I'll put something together in the OP later on, in the mean time I guess we should post to our blogs, invite people via pm and just get the word out to the masses.

Okay, so will you want us to post our progress shots as we go, or just post the whole progression in one go once we're done?

That will be fine, of course!

Yeah, just post as much as you can, whenever you can. Lets aim for exposition on this.

Someone needs to get on over to the "OFFICIAL" forum, in the Combined Army section, and get the word out!

Aye and the other ones too. Data Sphere and such. Go forth friends and make it so.

Those are some nice looking Exrah!

Love the color scheme!

Is the Caskuda getting something similar?

And so it begins...

I've ordered in a few bugs and I expect them to arrive tomorrow, then I'll pick one and get started on assembly.

@ Alphs Yes the Caskuda will be getting the same scheme as the little bugs. Although technically its not an Exrah as it doesn't have the Exrah special rule. But that won't really matter when there is no such thing as Exrah any more.

Too true - the big bug gets lumped in with Exrah though!

I'm thinking about and researching fruit flies. Just thought you'd all find that piece of information riveting.

Moderately serious.

Just document all of your 'inspiration' and NSFW/Spoiler tag it if necessary!

Is moderate a de-escalation from reasonable?

Well I was looking into extremophiles and radioresistant life for inspiration. Turns out cockroaches aren't as impressive as we always hear it's just that their cells kind of pause for long periods. Fruit fly, drosophila melanogaster, comes up quite a lot and apparently shellfish can all handle a good amount of radiation before they die. It seems though that the parasitoid wasp, habrobracon, is the big daddy in this field.

And what do they all have in common? Brown... Which is good! Because I kind of want to try a shiny cockroach style exoskeleton. Some interesting markings and stuff though so that could be carried forward.

See, that is interesting!

That's great! I find almost everything interesting in some respect so I'm full of useless information that no one wants to hear. I have atrocious general knowledge though...

Also I saw a lot of quite bright orange eyes on the fruit flies so now I'm thinking about: the fact that under certain circumstances certain radioactive materials emit a glow; and waste biology; and OSL.

Hiding behind terrain

Ive ordered the vector and void HMGs cos I liked them. Sadly couldn't justify buying the caskuda when I still have to expand OI forces.

If I ever field them I'll be using them as proxy merc. Already thinking of a billboard advertising their services. Maybe something like "Vector Bounties" and the slogan "Got a problem in sector, come see Vector." (Feel free to steal this idea anyone!)

Paint wise, Im thinking I'll try painting them that weird pale light green that preying mantis are. I'll paint these as a warmup before I go about botching my OI minis.

And I have some bugs in stock now if anyone needs them.

Wish I could pull this one off.

I am TOTALLY stealing this idea!

That is fantastic!

I love it!

Awesome ideas, how about "Bugs for Bucks!" on a billboard. And good to hear you have stuff in now Shae. I'll be tearing into that Caskuda first in my November order. Got a conversion planned already!

That's me got a couple of bugs built and sprayed.
Can't decide which to do so I've got a Void and Vector, sniper and HMG.
One shall have a base of black, but I may make the other brown.
