Pretty specific question but I'd toss this out there. Can the Kabalite Warriors in the Dark Eldar Formation from the main Rule Book, be upgraded to Trueborn and still meet the requirement of the Formation.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

No, as true born are not kana lite warriors

It's a squad upgrade though which is weird the way that works, it's one of the options for the kabalite warriors to take is to upgrade.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Yes, and then they become trueborn, who have their own entry. Are they now kabalite? No.

It's a upgrade to the squad by that logic the only thing you can take is just "Kabalite Warriors" and nothing else, no upgrades etc..

Its still a upgrade to the unit.

Yes. And they're still a differently named unit afterwards. Or would you claim an apothecary can buy an item limited to veterans, because he was a veteran previously?

I think order of operations can normally be used to buy an upgrade before becoming something different. But in this case, I don't think it works. Once they become Trueborn, they cease being Warriors. If they'd bought equipment, (like the apothecary example) I could see the argument for them keeping it, but becoming Trueborn makes them ineligible for the formation. At least, that's how I see it.

RAW yes.

there is no trueborn FOC entry anymore, you can upgrade kabalite warriors models to trueborn models making them elites, but RAW they are purchased from the -Kabalite Warrior- FOC which starts out as troops.

there is no restriction that kabalite warrior entry may not upgrade the kabalite warriors to trueborn, so RAW yes this is perfectly legal.

Trueborn is a profile name now and not a unit entry in the FoC list. They are not a differently named unit, the models in the unit just have a different model profile.

the same as upgrading a tac marine to a sgt doesn't make the sgt a different model, its still a model in the unit tac marine, upgrading a kabalite warrior to trueborn under the kabalite warrior entry means you still bought kabalite warriors, and you have purchased upgrades for them but the base unit is still the same.

there is no RAW that they become a different force organization entry called 'trueborn', just that their slot changes from troops to elites. If someone can find some RAW wording that they become a new unit entry not kabalite warriors that have been upgraded to trueborn please post it.

the formation makes no restriction that the 6 kabalite warrior entries may not upgrade, so you may upgrade them RAW and count them still as kabalite warrior entries as that is the datasheet you are buying them from and upgrading them per that datasheets rules.

100% agree. Trueborn are just upgraded Kabalite Warriors. They're still selected from the Kabalite Warrior unit entry, so are fair game for the Formation.

Does it matter? That formation is terrible.

It matters because this is the You Make Da Call forum and not the Tactics forum.

The formation is not very good.

It doesn't really matter.

the meat of the matter is that the 'unit name' of the datasheet 'kabalite warriors' does not change based on the upgrades you buy it, including trueborn. It does change which FoC it goes to, but not the unit name.

Yeah the only way you could rule against this would be to rule the unit has to be the base 40point unit. No Sybarite no extra guys, no blaster or transport (which you also HAVE to take).

Trueborn ARE Kabalite Warriors now. Formation has its uses for blasterborn spam mainly.

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

Yes my Colour is Black but not for the reasons stated mainly just because it's slimming... http://imperiusdominatus.blogspot.com
