Yeah, I am 39. I never got into Nickelback or the Backstreet Boys, even though I've been aware of both...when it comes to the "radio pop" end of the musical spectrum, I usually prefer female vocalists.
In any case, I was just making a light-hearted comment. 40k doesn't exactly scream 'Backstreet Boys', if you know what I mean.

I don't mind listening to Katy Perry or Miley Cyrus on the radio. I also like Avril's music. Other than that, I love Offspring and Alkaline Trio. While I'd consider the first three "shameful" likes, being a 29yr old guy, I'm quite proud to like the last two.
Also, seriously...Ke$ha?? Ye gods, man; have you no shame?!

Well, a lot of Dakka users have left their 20s, so have gone through the 90s fully aware of their surroundings and the 90s culture...and you could not get past the Backstreet Boys. And - well, let's face it. They made good music. Same as Nickelback imo. It's not deep, far from it, but it had catchy tunes, was well-written and could be enjoyed without paying too much attention to the music on its own. Just like Nickelback. When you're out on a joyride on a sunny afternoon, we just put it some Nickelback and enjoy the ride.
I dislike Nickelback because even though they're competent it's in service to some of the most safe, dull, cliche music out there which is definitely not what I want to hear when listening to a rock group.

Wouldn't say Im ashamed as such of these , more just guilty pleasures:
Nickelback - Not so much a guilty pleasure, I am a fan and proud of it lol.
Babymetal- Yea kinda fun and catchy
and Finally, Hatsune Miku, a vocaloid. A link to my fav songs would be easier:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY__VTIUsiU or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_guf0zLiXY
I seem to have a softer spot for Japanese music after visiting Tokyo it seems lol.

I wouldn't say I'm ashamed of anything I listen to. I can stand anything outside of rap/hip hop, which just isn't for me.
I'm pretty fond of grunge though, so I listen to a lot of Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Foo Fighters. But my collection is pretty varied, including a lot of pop like Taylor Swift and Jessica Mauboy.
Just depends on the mood at the time of listening. I get super bored listening to the same styles forever.

@Loki: I think you just haven't found the particular hip/hop rap act thats suits your disposition yet. I used to hate it with a passion, and think all people who liked it should burn in a raging inferno of righteous holy flame, until I heard an act that caught my fancy.. i think still that its one of the lowest forms of music out there still to this day, but there are some gems in the rough!

If I like music its good (for me)- and I have nothing to be ashmed off.
I enjoy a wide range from Sisters of Mercy to the Saturdays, Prince to Girls Aloud, the Cure to Madonna. Classical music I like alot of and the odd Opera
There are however some I actively dislike - I can't stand anything to do with Oasis.........musically or otherwise

Another one that falls in the category of 'musically crap, but I like them anyway' for me. Sometimes, there's nothing like a bit of technically dull, somewhat repetitive music to just listen to without having to pay attention. Funny enough, though, from the 1 album they've done, I prefer Noel Gallagher's band to Oasis themselves.
On a side note, I heard a Nickelback song I actually liked today! I've always hated their music, but 'How you Remind Me' is actually pretty decent when put alongside some similar-sounding better stuff.

You're all amateurs.
I like, nay adore, Meat Loaf. Not the dish. The singer, sometimes the man. Ever since I heard I would do anything for love (but I won't do that), I was hooked. Mind you, that was the tender age of 14 and you are vulnerable to the heartache at that age.
I raged when Celine Dion released It's all coming back to me now, because Jim Steinman gave her not only the lyrics, but also the whole damn band to record it.
I cringed when he was on The Apprentice (I blame editing and tv drama!).
Everyone tells me I should be ashamed, deeply ashamed... but there persists to this day a free space on my credit card for whenever he pulls up the Neverland Express next to the Bell Centre (or any venue within a day's drive, for that matter)
A last word in defense of Meghan Trainor. She is singing how wonderful it can be to love being a normal sized individual. If it makes my wife smile even a little bit, I salute her.

Superficially, maybe. However, if you read the lyrics, her message is "don't worry, there are men who will think you're hot" which isn't exactly what a girl should base happiness with her body off of. My wife also loves that song, much to my annoyance.

I'm a rock n' roll kind of guy. From Zeppelin to Zombie. Avid rock concert goer as well. Play bass.
That said, when I was in Japan I became intrigued by vocaloids. It's fun escapism and culturally fascinating.
"Love is War" isn't just a good Miku song, but a good song. Period.

I'm pretty much the same, minus the playing bass, I have no musical talent whatsoever haha.
I knew who Hatsune Miku was due to the Gadget shows world tour Japan episode but never gave it much thought, just that it was pretty cool. Who would have thought I'd end up with a mild addiction so many years later haha. Not really ventured to other vocaloids yet but quite like Hagane Miku too, fits more into my usual music choices shall we say lol.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Still more positive (because it is truthier) than the "be rail thin so everyone will love you" mentality. Because you can never be loved by everyone. So yeah, so guys will not like you, just keep walking. Imho. Who knows, she might be happier with a drummer after all.

None, I like almost every genre of music and I see no point in being ashamed.
Hell, if I consult my usb stick in the car right now:
Rammstein
Limp Bizkit
Uppermost
Happy Super Joy Soundtrack
Studio Killers
Imogen Heap
Electric Six
Machinae Supremacy
Entire Frank Klepacki Discography
Frank Zappa
King Crimson
Flower kings
Spocks Beard
Queens of the Stone Age..
Etc. Can't remember the entire list, it's 32 GB stick.
I see no reason to be ashamed of liking stuff that is objectively horrible, nostalgia or just being catchy makes it good to me and that's all I need to like it.
