so I may or may not be picking up a Thunderhawk and i noticed while reading over it....it was kinda squishy...or so i thought, then i realized that the Legion Thunderhawk(HH Legiones Astartes) has all of these upgrades and while reading over them I was like "wait...so it can be survivable?"

Heres what I mean this is the basic stat line for the Thunderhawk BS4 AV12/12/10 HP9
it has Armored Ceramite, Machine Spirit, 6 Hellstrike Missiles, 2 Lascannons,4 TL HB sponsons, and the Thunderhawk cannon Str8 AP3 72" 7" Massive Blast
of course you give it the Turbo Laser for the Str D AP2 Large Blast
then you give it EVERY UPGRADE IT CAN TAKE!!!! and ill explain why with each entry on what the upgrade does

Chaff Launcher
-these give you a 4+ Invuln against Missile attacks...its one use only.

Armoured Cockpit
-Ignore results of crew shaken and crew stunned results on a 4+...you may need this if they can even pin you.

Flare Shield
-this reduces the Str value of all incoming attacks by -1 on attacks on front armor facing, and -2 against blast&template weapons...which i guess if your hovering can help

Ramjet Diffraction Grid
-this reduces the Str value of all incoming attacks by -1 on side and rear armor facings.

Void Crafted Hull
-improves the rear amor facing to AV12

so now Lascannons Str9 (now Str8 need a 4 to glance 5 to pin, aircraft Str8 missiles (now Str7) can only glance you on a 5 and of course if they decide to shot all missiles at it Chaff, and all Flakk missiles and ground-to-air shooting which is usually Str7 is now Str6 and can only glance you...nice right?

so basically your Thundehawk is now a bit more survivable.

also...thanks to HH rules you can take up to 3 techmarines that count as 1 Elite choice....the Thunderhawk has a transport capacity of 30 take 9 techmarines inside and commence with the trolling

Is there a question here, or are you offering tactical advice? Seems like this should be in the tactics forum.

Since it's a super heavy, doesn't it ignore stunned/shaken anyway?

The only issue there is that the Legion thunderhawk is 900pts, and still showing the old stats (12/12/12 and 4 SPs), it was even able to carry dreads. So that makes for a pretty pricy flyer, as opposed to the IA 2, 2nd ed. incarnation which is the most up-to-date version and shows the stats you brought up; however the upgrades you mentioned are not available in that version (or are defined differently).
FW needs to come up with a big rules update/faq for HH to bring some of their stuff up to date with 7th ed. (like CADs, ObSec units, allies rules, etc...)

agreed i just have the HH books and the GW Apocalypse book...and the Apoc entry is stupid both are actually...i mean its the biggest flyer the SM have in thier armory it carries so many things and is used in void warfare...AV 12/12/10.......honestly it should be base AV13/13/12 its a Super Heavy act like it...and i have seen the Thunderhawk taken down turn 2 by a lucky SINGLE vendetta....cuz a 170pt craft should be able to take that thing down...

Not really sure how 9HP flyer is any bit of squishy

Just chuck some techmarines in the back and fix away any loss HP.

In the current incarnation your best bet is to take iron hands chapter tactics (for it will not die) and then stuff it with as many master of the forges and techmarines as you can, and give them each a unit of 2 servitors. That's 4 (in a standard CAD) hull points you can get back every shooting phase on a 2+, plus one on a 5+ at the end of your turn.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

HH4 does that, to an extent. It states you only get to use the 30K force org charts, no CAD, no Unbound, only troops are scoring, and only the HH allies chart is used.
And, keeping in mind that the Legion Thunderhawk is the one we seem to be talking about, how many points was that again? 685 before upgrades? Have to be playing at least a 2740pt game to be using that in your Legion army (for just the naked version), as you also have to abide by the 25% LoW limit.

Certainly, there are some questions that need to be answered in updated 30K to use 7th Edition rules, but the force org is not one of them.

well i dont know what kind of gaming community you play in but ours just play to have fun so we dont care about 25% rules and the like...we play fluff games that are completly unbalanced but are super fun. also depending on what Legion and Legion doctrine you take troops are not the only scoring

So then why are you trying to talk about your Thunderhawk idea as if it applies to the games that anyone else will be playing? We might as well talk about my "not so squishy Thunderhawk" that I house ruled to AV 15 on all sides with 100 HP, because I think it's more fun when my Thunderhawk doesn't die.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

ok first of all calm down...the reason i posted this here is for people who have thunderhawks...which if they are using them like they should they would only be bringing them in Apocalypse and if your running an Apoc game where for example a certain Guard player brings 6 VENDETTAS!!!! all of a sudden a 9HP flyer isnt that tough( yes we have one of THOSE people). I just posted that depending on who im playing they dont mind if i run the Thunderhawk in fluff games where for example i have to hold out in my deployment zone and wait for the Thunderhawk to arrive from reserves come on on the other side of the board move a maximum of 24" per turn then when its over me i have to make it hover and embark all my guys. However if we are playing ina tournie we always abide by the rules as they are laind down in the book so I follow the 25%...im just saying in normal games we dont always follow them because I wouldnt be able to use my $700 model i paid for as often....cuz i would think if you paid that much for something you would want to play its as much as possible as well.

and there i changed the name of it so people will stop with sarcastic remarks
