Its really not much cheaper at all is it?
Still, i'd go for them, wonder if we will ever get even smaller, cheaper, fluffless ones?

Yes Ghaz, that's about softcovers.

This isn't them.

I need a CSM book proper, I've got a PDF copy for reference while I put together an army, but I always have the real thing when I'm playing, so if these make it to discounters, I'll grab one, otherwise I'll just keep an eye on eBay for a used one.

Anyone else notice that its only the 6th edition codexs and not any of the 7th edition ones?

Yes, because what they've done is offer the individual volumes from the combined set they offered some months back separately.

That didn't feature any of the 7th Edition books (it was released just before Orks were expected IIRC) so they don't exist in the smaller format.

I was slightly tongue in cheek when I said I didn't see it coming, as it was a fairly sound bet when that set was released that any spares might get split (or excess units)

You print the older ones in a new format, not the newer ones. Smaller/cheaper will cannibalize sales of bigger/more expensive typically, so milk those new ones as long as possible.

Wow. So AUD$45 for a small hardback when something larger and more practical (softback, easier to quickly flip through) used to be $30.

I still think it's another missed opportunity.

Yes the £5 less is nice, the smaller size is handy and it could be that somebody is listening to the customer but there seems to be a refusal to admit that the company has been going in the wrong direction.

Still, big things do grow from little things.

The real sin in all this: our primary motivation to buy these taking into account our other options is???? (what????).
It is not quite the same as wanting the small rule-book (removed fluff) compared to a codex.
I am just trying to figure out a sales/marketing spin that works with this...

They are breacking up the ridiculously expensive sets of mini hardcovers that didn't sell, hoping they will sell this way.

If there's demand they'll sell, if there isn't they won't. The cynicism on this board is ridiculous.

Woah, woah, woah.... it's $8.50 cheaper

I would have priced them at $35.

On the plus side, if they are not direct only we should be able to get them for $33, assuming 20% off.

It wouldn't be Dakka without overwhelming GW hate.

I like the idea of small format books, but would have preferred softback at a lower price point. I'm still hoping that will happen.

The cynicism on this board is a direct result of Games Workshop failing to really grasp what their customers want, over and over again, so even when they do do something somewhat akin to what people are asking for, they always seem to miss the target somewhat. That's not to mention the numerous occasions where their actions have been flat out wrong, such as the numerous unjustified cease and desists and other heavy handed legal tactics..

HATER!! You must unquestioningly consume everything GW releases, this sort of "preference" you state has no place in the Brave New GW World.

Or, you know, people may frequently not like the things GW does, and it not be any sort of hate but just disappointment and criticism.

Yeah but Az it's soooooooooo much easier to dismiss anyone who doesn't agree with me by categorising what they say as "hate".

Honestly, this product release was pretty much a guaranteed thing. I've been expecting this to happen ever since they released the 6th edition small hardback collection.

I'm still hoping we see the rumored small softbacks at some point next year. These things aren't even new products. They're just the previous set broken up and sold without the case.

*tap, tap, tap* Hello, is this thing on?

Also, just to make this post more than just me being sarky, I don't believe I've seen it said anywhere that the softbacks will be the small format?

You need to learn to appreciate sarcasm and tongue in cheek comments, my friend. You have to admit that there is a large population of Dakka posters who would complain about the heaviness if GW started giving away free gold. It's almost comical.

At the end of the day, a price discount and a smaller format is a small step in the right direction. If these things sell, they may make more.

The fact that you mentioned it first in no way changes the fact that I've also been expecting it.

In HBMC's defence, there are people here who appear to be parodies but are deadly serious, if you're going to play that game with matters GW, you're probably best giving us a clue with an emoticon or summat so we know.

And they'd be right to do so. Giving away gold for free would devalue the gold, and that could have ramifications across global markets.

But in all serious no, no people here wouldn't complain if GW did that.
