So recently I had a pretty awesome idea; using the firestorm redebout and lootas to make the best dakka base an ork could ever ask for!

--1-3 Big Mekk with SAG and gitfinda
-15 man Lootas
-Firestorm Redebout with Magos machine spirit (grot gunners?), Void shields and Either punisher Gatling cannons or Battle cannons.

The basic idea is to set this up in the center with the bigmeks inside and lootas on top, shooting anything that gets close with tons of shots coming from both on top and SAG attacks from inside. The Redebout hits anything that gets close.

do it man, orks are rarely on the defensive, but with something like that then create a defense themed list. get mekguns and make yourself a kustom aegis defense line from plasticard (try buying plasticard forsale signs from your local hardware store, it much cheaper then buying online). get a coms relay (cutsom make one with a grot on a tower) and have dakkajets come in to harass the enemy while he has to boot it to you. just deploy your adl at the very edge of your zone, so as to make full use of your mek gunz range. also put da thinkin kap on your warlord so you get as much advantage as you can.

also try the skyshield landing pad. its amazing for lootas (it gives whatever is on it a bloody 4 up invol save)

i might try something similar myself.

Bare in mind any weapon on a Firestorm will have Skyfire. So a Battlecannon is really a bad idea. You'll be snap shooting at any non-flyer.

I dont thik so, because last time I read the book it was only the lascannons that had skyfire. if it's like the vengeance battery then it can hit ground targets too.

and the point isn't for an aegis, just the redebout for dakka. but maybe the aegis might be better? I don't know.

They're not saying get an aegis instead, they're saying make sure your list has focus. A redoubt stuffed to the gills with lootas and multiple SAG big meks is damned scary, but it's not even remotely aggressive. You can't walk the building around.

As such, having the rest of your list be 'classic ork' wouldn't be a great idea - so play more defensively. Invest in an Aegis, create an extended defensive line, and castle up as you make someone lay siege to the greenskin hordes.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I get it now. because double force org is so easy with orks I could get an aegis and the redebout to further enhance my list. alright cool =D

or a cheaper promethian line with burnas behind it.... I like that idea a lot!

just upgrade the redoubt with 6 "Barricades and walls", which have to be placed 6" around it, and are 6" in length, for 60 points. I think they cover more distance than an aegis, plus you can only pay for what you need, and don't need the second CAD. bubblewrap the redoubt with grots behind barricades they can't be seen over, and watch the enemy weep.

I had a similar thought awhile ago. For a defensive style orks.
Im currently building a custom martyrs building? (forgotten name), It comes with the escape hatch that I can place 18"(or was it 12"?) away. Originally I had planned it as a central base for lootas in my walker lists, With a max grot/boyz squad inside the building, they use the hatch, then run, that puts them 18" + D6 from my lines turn 1 as a sorta 'hello deal with us or we will assault you!' feel to take some initial heat off my walkers.

I looked at the redoubt too, and I think defensive orks are viable. prometian lines and the redoubt, those 6 walls you get. load it with lootas, SAG HQ's and plenty of big gunz batterys. With orks so cheap points wise you can simply have so much dakka coming from the place. Loobas sniping out dangerous heavy weapons, while lootas just dice stuff to death

So the aegis/barricades completely block LOS?

I thought the table no longer included self detonation?
There's - enemy gets to pick target?
- teleport into CC?
- vortex?
- Becomes small blast?

I cant remember if there was any of the ones that used to be totally self-harming like the mek killing itself or detonating.

The result were your opponent picks the target... They could just pick the Big Mek.

Looks cool. I second the suggestion by Redizdead, that lobbas behind that would make it even more fun.
