I can see the comparison through the bat imagery, but Curze is Batman's complete opposite. In my mind he is more like Venom from Spider man. A lethal protector with a very literal and blunt sense of justice.

Because he isn't the hero Chaos deserves, he is the hero that Chaos needs.

It's the whole fear thing. They both use fear to keep the baddies under control.
Course one of them's insane.... but that's besides the point

I think also to how they perform their own justice outside the law, while both having references to bats. Referring to Curze's youth, they both do violent illegal things to make innocent people's lives better. That is the way I look at it. Never forget, although Batman is painted in a good light, and has good intentions, he is still a violent criminal. Such as beating a suspect whilst in custody (Joker).

It's just the Bat motif. Beyond that one theme, he has faaaaaaar more in common with the Punisher then Batman. I call him Space Punisher.
That he kills pretty much entirely disqualifies him from being comparable to Batman, since not killing is one of the largest aspects of Batman's entire character.

The Night Haunter brought a sense of law and order to Nostramo and then there is all the bat stuff. Also both have ptsd/issues that drive them to take extreme actions. I could see the Venom comparison but more people know about Batman so he is a common comparison.

Batman originally killed people too. In his earliest incarnation, he felt that some criminals were impossible to redeem, so he killed them. Heck, the original batplane had a gunner's sight and heavy machine guns (used to mow down hordes of crooks). Like Kurze, he also had a nasty habit to expose his victims' bodies, albeit not as horrifically. I remember reading one early Batman comic where he tied a line around a crook's neck with a batarang, then punched him off the roof with the batarang's line still around said neck, then just stood there watching as the crook's body pendulumed in the alley. Kurze behaves like an extreme version of early Batman. The reasons why Kurze's Night-Haunter persona is equated with Batman instead of Punisher are:
1. He wore a mask. Frank doesn't (most of the time).
2. He didn't use guns. That's actually the whole point. Night Haunter's terror worked precisely because he literally ripped his targets to shreds.
3. He lurked in the dark. Frank doesn't lurk.
4. The bat-motif.

Yea, it's basically what vigilante justice would look like when brought to the 40K setting and carried out by a someone with the superhuman powers of a Primarch, lurking since birth on a planet without sunlight and filled with criminal scum.

He was not the golden lord. The Emperor will carry us to the stars, but never beyond them. My dreams will be lies, if a golden lord does not rise.
I look to the stars now, with the old scrolls burning runes across my memory. And I see my own hands as I write these words. Erebus and Kor Phaeron speak the truth.
My hands. They, too, are golden. |

He always reminded me of the real life Night Stalker serial killer. I never saw the Batman connection apart from the bat motifs. And at least Konrad got the job done unlike Batman who throws criminals in prison over and over after they escape for the billionth time.

I do like the Eddie Brock Venom (now Toxin) comparison. Fits quite well.
I think another fit would be Rorschach

Kurze is like a weird lovechild of Bruce Wayne, Rorschach and Frank Castle. I also hate seeing him referred to as "chaos". The Night Haunter despised the gods and mutations, before his death the Night Lords stayed out of the EoT and had little to do with their twisted brethren.
