I'm so tired of being told to check my privledge. There is even a sign outside my dorm room telling me that. I'm so tired of being corrected on every tiny thing I say, apparently I can't say colored people, but people of color is ok despite meaning the same thing. I'm tired of being told that be a use im a sociologymajor, I have to have an opinion, and the right.
And I hate being poor.

wow that sounds a fun university, next sign, "drinking, think about other relgions who do not drink, think!"

Do you have a part time job? That could help a bit with putting up with people and the poor bit.

I'd consider getting one. It allows you to meet other people that aren't in your course. Expand your horizons.

Maybe join a society? A shared interest? Wargaming? Film? Politics?

Anybody tells you to check your privilege tell them to feth off.

Sounds like you haven't sufficiently checked your privilege.

I still wake up in a cold sweat at night occasionally, thinking I have a large paper due or an exam the next day.

Yeah, get out and meet some other people. Join a random society and do something different.

Wait, what? Where the hell do you study?

Tell them the 1st Amendment secures your natural right as a Human to say and think whatever the feth you please.

I know most Universities don't seem to regard The Constitution as a thing that exists, but still...

'Colored people' and 'People of color' you may be referencing the same group but have very different connotations and uses. One is seen as an outdated ignorant somewhat slur, and the other is the official term on the US census. It is like 'midget' and 'little people'.

If you are going to be part of the educated elite of America through the PC liberal establishment, then prepare to learn all this stuff and have empathy on why people may be sensitive and be will and able to check your language and adjust to navigate the real world without making enemies.

In 6 years, they may have a totally different US census term and 'people of color' may be outdated... You can either get mad, grab your flag, guns and beer and say "Gwwwwwwah, in mah day we just called them all <insert term here>" or just spend the mental brainpower accept the new term and use it in society and go on with your life.

Also, such terms means different things world wide, that is also a different issue because other regions and countries have different demographics and what is acceptable term in one part of the world becomes totally different in another. Talk to a Brazilian or Jamaican about 'african american' vs 'black' sometime in the US... or Native Africans who have 'black' vs 'colored' which mean a very different thing to them and is sometimes a major offense.

Part of higher education and interacting in the business and international world is to be open-minded and willing to learn about such things and to give a crap enough to respect others who feel strongly about such things.

This sort of post is better suited to a blog.
