Blue Table Painting's decision not to offer Tenebre a full refund or pay for a full repaint the worst business move of 2014.

Worst Business Decision - Blue Table Painting doing a terrible and shoddy job on Tenebre's chaos dwarves and offering a 2% refund ( )

Best Business Move - Frontline Gaming doing the touch-up work that made Tenebre's chaos dwarves go from sub-par to worthy of a miniature painting service putting their name on it.

Greatest Fear for 2015: GW somehow retcons unified elves into not being a thing.

Greatest Wish for 2015: A great 9th edition for WHFB.

Release of Warhammer 40K 8th Edition

9th Edition, surely?

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Best fluff release

Worst rule or fluff
The Ork Codex, most especially Ork leadership changes. After so many years of waiting patiently following the excellent PK book, then this nerfladened catastrophe.

Best business move
Forge World actually offering real discount on their bundles.

Worst business move
A small miniature painting service like Blue Table Painting being as narrow sighted and willing to ignore the close community of this hobby to treat a customer as badly as they did... And then keep digging...

Greatest Wish for 2015
Big hopes for changes in GW, a sorting out of the horrible mess the rules are in, perhaps some serious revision of the price/buy in and starter games.

Greatest Fear for 2015
GW will continue as it is, shedding more and more customers and slowly circling the plughole...

Best Plastic Infantry:
Tough call to make as I honestly haven't bought much recent plastic this year, but if the new BA Tactical Squad is on par with the generic SM Tacticals then that's probably the winnner in my book. Honourable mention to the sublime Space Hulk Terminators, but they're not technically 2014 sculpts.

Best Plastic Vehicle/Large Monster:
Just for the sheer variety of awesome things I've seen done with them, Imperial Knights. I'll take my Dreamforge Crusader over one any day, but I have seen so much creativity and no two have looked alike. It's hard to think of anything else that has been so frequently displayed and different every time. I also really like the new Logan and chariot, haters be damned.

Best Metal/Resin Model:
Reverend Healer from Operation Icestorm. Great model, amazing detailling and so much fun to paint. Close second and third would be the Father Knight and at-easy Fusilier from the same set.

Worst model:
I'm not a huge fan of the new Lord Commissar, especially compared to the awesomeness of the old one. I've seen some good stuff done with it, but not anything that makes me like the model aesthetically.

Best rule release:
Probably Infinity N3, as it makes an already great game even better by all accounts. This year also saw the full release of Deadzone at retail, so that gets a vote too.

Best fluff release:
End Times: Nagash shook up the WFB fluff and changed the whole feel of the setting; it's something I'd love to see as an LotR-budget movie, it's that epic and so much happened.

Worst rule or fluff:
Tough one, I can't think of any real disasters, but I'm still convinced 40k didn't need a 7th edition. While I like and use the new opennes to list building, I would have happily continued with 6th and not complained.

Best business move:
I woiuld nominate the free release of Infinity N3 online by Corvus Belli; while it wasn't anything they didn't do before, it was still a neat gesture.

Worst business move:
Oddly enough, not GW. Yes, they're still incompetent, but that's nothing new. I'm actually going to say Corvus Belli underestimating demand for Operation Icestorm wasn't the best move, and despite them eventually rectifying it, I do wonder how the delays impacted enthusiasm for the game.

Greatest Wish for 2015:
The new Star Wars film leading to someone (preferably not GW) getting the licence to produce hard plastic, multi-part 28mm SW minis. A guy can dream. Perhaps more realistically, a proper Sisters of Battle release. In terms of things that might actually happen, Dreamforge releasing their female troopers so I can at least emulate that last one.

Greatest Fear for 2015:
The absolute death of the Hobbit/LotR lines from GW. One of their greatest games, and it'll be a shame to see it go.

Overall Product of the Year:
Going to go with Infinity: Operation Icestorm. Great minis, awesome terrain and a neat ruleset even without the full rules.

Agreed on almost every one, with the exception of Metal Miniature. That has to go to the Kum rider with rifle/light shotgun from Corvus Belli. Simply staggering sculpt.

People say that a lot. "Why don't you try this?" is a common thing. Thing is, it's insufficient. I like 40K because I like 40K. I like the aesthetic, I like the story, I like the factions, and the background and the storytelling potential, and the models (most of them) and so on. I just wish the rules lived up to the universe itself. I can't just go and play something else because nothing else is 40K (with the exception of the RPG's, which are a God-send in my opinion - a way to play 40K without actually playing 40K).

Outside of BattleTech, the only other war game that has ever really interested me was AT-43, and that sadly died before it really got anywhere (didn't stop me from getting a big Therian army this year though! ). Good rules aren't everything, but at the same time bad rules aren't enough to make me give up on something.

Lots of things interest me, wife and I are going to be getting into Star Trek Attack Wing in 15. But I have a shedload of GW minis, love the background for them and whilst it's somewhat difficult to organize a game of 40k, it would prove near impossible to get a game of anything else (other than perhaps warmahordes, which I have mixed feelings about) around here.

Did my comment come across as a criticism (looking at HBMC's comment?) It wasn't meant to be.

I'm quite fortunate in that I play with friends/clubs that are happy to experiment with different stuff (not 'put your car keys in this pot' kind of experimenting, just wargames) - downside to this is that sometimes you are just about getting an army together and your head around the rules after 6 months when they are then already moving on to the next project..

HBMC - not sure why you answered on MGS's behalf! If that's what you like, and that's all you like, then that's it and all about it! You won't catch me saying anything different.

Best Plastic Infantry

Perry Miniatures Foot Knights

Best Plastic Vehicle/Large Monster

- I dont find this category useful in its present wording, as "plastic" pretty much limits it to GW and 1 or 2 WW2-caterers

Best Metal/Resin Model

- see above. Not so useful category, since it single-handedly encompasses pretty much the total output of everyone except GW, Perry Miniatures, Dreamforge Games and some WW2-caterers.

But pretty high on my list: Infinity Kum Bikers

Worst model

(Taking only into account big companies who should know/do better: ) GW AM Taurox

Here we go again...

With the arrival of Kyoto Secundus and her clone sister Kyoto Secundus Prime I've had very little time for gaming/painting/modeling or much of anything fun.

Except of course reading Dr Seuss late into the night, that's pretty fun.

So my thoughts are pretty narrow this year and one criteria I use is whether or not a product got me to use my limited time and money. So with that in mind...

Best Plastic Infantry

Assuming they're from this year, the WGF survivors win for me. Cheap (30 for $21!!) versitile, with tons of weapons and crisp sculpts. They ain't perfect (what is) but they're good. Look for me to do a review soon.

Since they seem to be shipping this year honorable mention to WGF/Dreamforge's female tank hunters

Best Plastic Vehicle/Large Monster

Again since it seems to be shipping this year gotta give it to the Dreamforge APC

Honorable mention to the Warzone Grizzly. Man if I didn't already have 2 of the Mikazaki Bad Guy tanks waiting to be built...

The much malligned Taurox could appear here, with wheels it looks pretty darn good. But oh well.

Best Metal/Resin Model

Simply because I've waited so long, Reapers Angel of Protection. There's still a small chance I might paint her up for Mrs Kyoto before the year ends.

Lots of Reaper stuff could get honorable mention here.

Worst model

Yeah there's a lot of shockingly mediocre stuff out there, and yeah some cringe worthy Kick Starter stuff but really for me there's only one winner.

A skeleton, riding a skeletal cow, MADE ENTIRELY OUT OF SKULLS!!!ONE!!

Does GW's studio really have no idea any more? Are they mocking themselves? Have they that little shame? I mean it's a fine looking model, but it's a parody of GW's worst excesses and I think they never even noticed!

Keep in mind GW really thought this was more viable than say, plastic battle sisters.

Honorable mention:

A dozen fat dudes in barrels. But you only get them from the waist up. For $65. get it fast! It's a web exclusive!

And again, GW really thought this was more viable than plastic battle sisters.

Best rule release

I only got 3 this year, Robotech (not even opened it), Relic (Talisman 40,000 AD) and Codex: Imperialis Guardis.

So I guess Relic wins since there's a chance I might actually play it one day.

Honorable mention to Codex: Grey Knights. I didn't get it but apparently GW achieved such a divine state of perfection they didn't need to add even one new unit or model.

Best fluff release

Have to pass on this one.

Worst rule or fluff release

I'm kind of surprised at the praise End Times is getting on this thread. T me it sounds like really, really bad fan fic. A new bad guy comes out of no where, levels some potentially interesting settings, kills a bunch of minor characters, and then bogs down into endless sequels. Crisis on Infinite Old Worlds?

Yeah shake ups are nice but after building loyalty and interest for years is blowing everything up the best move?

40k 7th edition, the return of the revenge of 2nd edition gets honorable mention. More charts! More cards! More unbalanced units! And rules scattered across WD, the internet, propreitary downloads and $50 rule books! I didn't even bother this time.

Best business move

Transparency.

Companies like Dreamforge that are upfront about what's going on keep loyalty and enthusiasm.

Companies that hide from social media or offer naught but spin simply put, don't.

Worst business move

Yeah there were some shady/incompenent kickstarters but really GW just owned this catagory. I mean where to start?

Social media-what social media?

Waste-suing a garage kit maker at ruinous cost? And losing?

Distribution-products selling out in minutes, often before the WD announcing them hit the shops? Do you even plan inventories?

Pricing-$30 for a one pose plastic model? $35 for 5 guardsmen? Someone sure it confident on their brand loyalty.

Rules-Rules that sprawl across dozens of publications, some physical, some digital. I once joked that GW would start publishing their rules are collectable trading cards. It doesn't seem too far off.

WTF-Renaming the IG? Rebasing marines?

Resting on their laurels-Codexes and End Time books with no new kits? 'New' models that are just Space Marines with more bling. When they did new stuff this year like the Knight it was great. But for the most part GW just put out Malibu Stacey with Hat and exepected fans to beat a path to their door.

Art-Does anyone track how much/little new art there is in rule books? I feel like it's around 20%

But the winner has to be:

Gouging-A new edition after just 2 years, which invalidated several books published just months before. Wow, someone is really, really assuming fans have a lot of money and even more loyalty.

And the sad thing is, even after flooding the market with new stuff, licencing to every game maker they could, forcing a new edition on 40k players... GW sales still went down.

Wow.

Greatest Wish for 2015

More plastic kits! I love, love, love plastic kits and love that so many companies are doing them. I've not even touched Wild West Exodus, Mantic or Malifaux stuff but they look great.

Looking forward to Reaper's Bones 2 hitting retail. With all the sci-fi stuff in that line one can now do a pretty good future infanry army using it.

Here's hoping for Dreamforge Wave 2 (with a bit less Nazi this time please), more modern/near future from WGF, more WWII from the Perry's and, since I can dream, Battle Sisters and FW stuff from GW in plastic!

Greatest Fear for 2015

GW bankruptsy or drastic contraction.

I like their stuff, I like the fact they manufacture in the UK, I just wish they'd innovate more and regain sanity when it comes to prices and distribution.

But the way things are going... FASA, TSR, Wizkids even WoC all vanished/bought out pretty suddenly. It can happen to GW and then who knows what shape their universes will take.

In the meantime it's fans and employees and shops who will suffer.

TL/DR

This is a real golden age for gaming and modeling. There is SO SO much out there and it's growing.

I think we're in for a contraction soon, too many games, too little fan base and shelf space, but hey, with ebay nothing ever really dies huh?

Most of my mini's experience at this point is Malifaux, Shadows of Brimstone and Robotech, so I don't really feel qualified to vote in most of these categories, but to go on with what I know/have read;

Best business move: FFG winning Gencon. Haven't gotten to play Armada or Imperial Assault, but between those and the new wave of ships, they really dropped the hammer this year. Oh, and Frontline Gaming saving Tenebre's Chaos Dwarves.

Worst business move: Blue Table Painting screwing Tenebre over. I've never used a Miniature Painting Service, but at least thanks to that thread I know who not to speak to should I ever feel so inclined.

Greatest Wish for 2015: Shadows of Brimstone's Wave 1.5 and 2 come out and are amazing, oh and Dwarven Forge's 3rd campaign tears the roof off.

Greatest Fear for 2015: Palladium manages to miss the entirety of 2015 for their second wave of Robotech minis (for all the gak they get, I at least want to receive what I paid for). Runner up; that we go through another (third, for those keeping score) round of Gencon feth-muppetry.

Best Metal/Resin Model: I'm particular to the Iron Mother. I just really find this sculpt to be amazing. Though anything out of Corvus lately has been on the same level for me. Also, anything Kingdom Death is putting out lately (Smoke Knight? GIMME!)

Best Fluff: Love what PP has been doing with their Novel/Novella/blurb level entries from Skull Island. Just too much to list. I'll also say I really loved the new Monsternomicon.

Best Vehicle: Knight Titan. I don't even play 40k and I wanted to buy one just to build a diorama with it. Truly awesome stuff. Honorable mention to the Kum Bikers (no more unicycles!)

Best Business Move: N3/Icestorm release or PP finally moving to actual sprue based plastic.

Worst Business Move: Blue Table Painting screwing Tenebre.

Greatest Hope for 2015: Local distributor for Warzone: Resurrection, Warmachine: Reckoning, relearning Infinity via N3, and the IKRPG Unleashed starter box.

Greatest Fear for 2015: X-Wing collapsing under it's own weight, Kingdom Death: Monster not delivering.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

Worst Business Decision: Blue Table Painting screwing over Tenebre and refusing to make amends
Runner up: MWG defending them and sticking their heads in the sand

Best Business Decision: Frontline Gaming fixing the models free of charge. This garners good will and hopefully future paint jobs from Tenebre, plus good will from everyone else who gets commission paint jobs done.

Worst Model: Logan Claus. Seriously, if you own one (voluntarily), you should be ashamed of yourself.

Best Model: Glotkin. That thing is, hands down, the best model GW has ever put out. Fact.

Biggest hope for 2015: Mantic's Warpath releasing and being amazing.

Biggest fear for 2015: Mantic's Warpath feeling sub-par compared to their other game rules (a lemon will eventually hit).

Greatest Fear for 2015

A CSM release with no new models or 8th edition, tied.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.
