Or I could do something with the edging... I know black was the popular vote but I think maybe a different colour would alleviate the problem...

Your elves look fantastic! Really nicely done. I like the scheme, and they're really neat and clean.

The matching movement trays are a really nice touch, as well

Side view.

I think those base edges could be brown. You can actually see them when trayed up and almost every mini on the GW site has brown base edges.

Thanks for the compliment Bi'Ios!

This is the very first Warhammer regiment I've ever completed. I had no idea the full effect would be so... Satisfying!

Thanks deacoy!

That was my main problem with them upon opening up the army book! Wow, pink and blue?!

Originally they were going to be red and white but one day I picked up the paint brush and said no. These elves are going to look cool!

And here we are...

Also I decided I wanted the bases to be brown, not only to help brighten up the base, but to blend in better with the movement trays.

You're probably thinking "movement tray for units of 10?", my response is: whoops! They'll be good for something later!

Ah Eldarain, my friend! You speak of... Possibilities... Dammit!

I could add snow... And easily too.

Come to think of it a spring time theme with melted snow and new growth would be the perfect juxtaposition.

Dammit!

Okay! More pics of the Saphery Elves... They are nearly done too. As it turns out Swordmasters are quicker to paint than the Sea Guard. Essentially the same model till you turn them around. Anyways, these blokes ought to be done by tonight, all things considered.

Some jerk gave me a great idea for the bases, so it turns out I have more work to do! Lol, just kidding Eld!

Glad to be of frustrating assistance

Everything is looking really nice. It's crazy how good the models in the starter sets are now.

Also even though I voted for black edging I like how the brown looks against the darker scheme.

Yes the brown really helps. Maybe on a brighter model the black would suit it better, but these elves are just too dar for that.

Also mucking about with snow... I need a finer sand maybe. I've tried using the sand I have now and making a paste but when it dries it just looks like white painted rocks. I'm experimenting with mixing pva and paint to try and get a more consistent goop. I'm hoping the pva will work, but in reality... The Elves just weren't meant for it. Well and truly that's an idea that needs to be implemented at stage one, so I think the elves will remain as they are and the IoB Skaven will get the snow treatment.

Here is my experimental snow. Here you can see the sand and pva mix glopped on top, and I've gone over it with a very thick pva and paint mixture. How does it look so far?

I'm still not entirely sold on it, but we will see what it looks like after some more finagling...

Really I just don't want to start messing with a good looking base and have it turn out garbage due to poor execution!

Lazy weekend!

Swordmasters are done though, so I guess that's good. Still humming and hawing about snow bases. Gotta go to the beach and get some sand. Oh btw, it's January and the grass is still green. Not a single flake of snow!

Okay!

With the completion of the Hoethians I find myself nearly finished. What, dear dakkanauts, should I paint up next? The Glade Guard, or the Reavers?

Whaddayawannasee?

So the cat has decided that he gets lonely in the mornings, so I've take to waking up pretty early just to keep him quiet so the wife can sleep. Trust me, she needs to sleep in.

Anyways here is what I got this morning. No coffee so... Didn't get much done!

Just these Shadow Warriors to do, four more Reavers, plus the Mage and Griffon Prince, and that's a wrap for the IoB elves.

Whoa an update!?

Say what?

Hey btw, can I get a mod to scoot this thread over to P&M for me? I didn't realize I'd still be posting here 2 months later! Probably is a blog now...

Anyways! Update to follow!

So I spotted these guys in a comic/collectibles shop and it took me a few weeks of pestering, but I finally got em!

13 Black Guard, with full command! All metal!
1 Cold One Knight
1 Dark Elf Bolt Thrower

All this for a paltry sum of about $30! I can't remember exactly what I paid because there was some wheeling and dealing going on, all good of course! I rather like that shop owner.

Anyways, this is them just prior to the mighty dettol dip!

Here is a close up of that glorious lead.

I can't wait to paint these suckers! That cold one is gonna be a blast. I'm going to run it as a Noble or Prince or something. Haha, High Elfs led by a Cold One Knight. With Glade Guard as Shadow Warriors and an old school bolt thrower?!

I'm gonna have to get better at painting, what with such a crazy army list I had better paint it bang on!

Nice find. I think those are the Executioners from back in 5th when I started playing.

Okay, so aside from all the Dark Elves taking over this thread, there is an actual real High Elf model in the mix today!

Crazy right?

Finally got sick of playing with a primer general! I usually save leaders and fancy pants-ers for last, so it's like a treat for all my hard work, but not this time. probably has something to do with e fact that I ran out of primer...

Anyways! Here is Caradris, the good ol IOB Mage! I decided he would need more colour than the others, all those robes was just too much black! One thing that kind of bothers me about him is the tassels on the front. Is that green border too much? I feel like it makes him blend too much with the Sea Guard as their shields have the green lizard. I don't know what do you folks think?

A close up of the magic frothy stuff. Am I doing it right? It needs to pop more, maybe a little brush of white?

Executioners? Hmm, must have been before my time. I just saw elves with great weapons and was like bam! Pheonix Guard!

Pretty cool how this army has pulled together. Funny thing, before I got these blokes the Bolt Thrower put my list at exactly 700 points! Which is to me seemed like a pretty dang bullet proof list. I imagine I can probably buff the list out to 1000 now with the PG and a healthy dose of magic goodies!
