With that protocol in place those robots can each shoot 9 S6 AP3 shots a turn, with 3 of them twin linked.
Curious to see what their handler can take from those weapon lists. The gamma pistol is nice but wondering if there is anything available that is more long range.

Yeah I squinted and figured it out. FNP is variable though. They have it first turn then you pick and maybe have it thereafter.

You pick at the END of your turn and it becomes active on your NEXT turn--which is kind of interesting.

Actually I can see a place for it.
Envision this scenario:
Your Kastelans are just barely outside of range this turn for shooting their Heavy Phospher Blasters, but since you have them on a key objective--you know they'll be getting attacked within two turns.
You activate "Protector Protocol" at the end of your previous turn turn, and next turn you get to double-tap with the carapace mounted Heavy Phospher Blasters for a total of 6 S6 AP3 Luminagen shots per Kastelan Robot.
Finish out that turn, keep Protector activated until whatever is coming for your Robot is close enough to start firing back and then switch to Aegis, then once it starts to look like they can maybe pull off a charge switch to Conqueror.
And that's not taking into consideration if you switch the Power Fists for twin-linked Heavy Phospher Blasters!

That's most likely the real world reason. Fluffwise, the English language has changed after a short two hundred years in the real world so a change after ten thousand years in the 40K setting is easy to see.

I'm mostly happy with the stats, but BS3? Really? Come on.. super high-tech robots of the year 40,000 whatever can't aim?
Surely if the Space Marines have optical aim enhancement because of cybernetic implants, you would think that cybernetic beings would be able to aim just as well.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. |

All their stats should be one higher. And they should get a 2+ save, and they should have drop pods, and they should have....
OR
Maybe they can't have everything because you know: game balance and they already have an a**-ton of buffs and a sweet stat-line
Not to mention there may be other ways to buff their shooting...

Well, they still look lame. Which is of course no problem, as there's plenty of alternatives!
Personally, I'm not a big fan of paying GW's premium prices for something that looks 'ok'. If I want something that looks 'good enough', I can scratchbuild or kitbash a placeholder for a few bucks, rather than pay tens of euros each and support GW's mediocre designs. I might buy some of those better models, though - voting with the wallet that when they make a good kit, then it sells more.

Yep. You'll have to be damn careful issuing anything bar the FnP one though, if your Datasmith buys the farm you could be stuck unable to move or unable to shoot. Mind you, the thought of marching a unit up into the midfield against Marines and just leaving Protector mode active gives me good-time shivers; that's a 36" death-bubble for MEQs.
These chappies do make the Phosphor Onager seem even more underwhelming in comparison to the other loadouts though; there was an argument for it when it was really the only way of getting reliable long-range Luminagen, but Kastelan bots give you that, in greater volume, and on a more durable platform. Not to mention the opportunity cost of taking Phosphor over Neutron or Icarus.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. Considering it looks like the bots are gonna start at around 300 points(if the base robots are 120 and the squad leader is 50). That is a pretty heafty starting point

Unit comp is 2 K + 1 DS, so how much for a set? 50-60 GBP?
Second thing, I do like that GW is adding more silly rules. First the hurl with knights, now the refractor with the robots. Forging that narrative, baby! (..not sure if sarcasm..)

The Datasmith was shown as part of the set on that poster, so I would be really surprised if he does not come with the set.
