So do the tracked guys have an option other than blowing themselves up with plasma.

I mean I'm all for blue gaseous explosions but I'd like a choice in the matter.

There's a mention in the Heavy Phospher Blaster entry from the WD about it being a common feature for the tracked guys.

they seem to be putting that on everything.

Afraid of mass Str6 AP3. It certainly clears meq. I guess plas for 2+ saves. Will they have anything at range to dakka down hordes

It might not seem like it at first glance, but Phospher actually is a great way to dakka down hordes.

Remember that Luminagen affects the whole unit when you cause wounds. Light a unit up with Heavy Phospher Blasters, then follow on with Skitarii Rangers or Vanguard--who are now effectively ignoring 2 points of a Cover Save(assuming you equip them with the Omnispex instead of the relatively useless Data-Tether).

Rangers are getting to double-tap their Galvanic Rifles at a pretty respectable range, Vanguard are getting to unload their shots at 18"--and combined with Plasma Calivers, there is a lot of shots to unload.

Toss in some Sicarian Infiltrators loaded with Flechette Blasters for their 5 shots/model, there is a scary amount of fire power that can be thrown downrange at varying range bands.

Yeah, was about to say Vanguard. They Can handle most hordes with their 30 shots per squad.

The clear glass that was posted earlier, perhaps with an LED light inside of it? Would that look good or would it just look dumb?

It would look alot better but it's also alot of work for a $50+ kit just to make it look "ok" since it doesn't address the other out of character parts like the shoulders and the overall cartoony nature that doesn't look like the rest of the (frequently derpy like the onager) admech stuff. As HBMC said, the techpriest is cool though but I just don't think the robots themselves are worth it. They look to me (and obviously YMMV) like cheap kids toys and not grimdark robots.

Final edit.

I think moving the arms down and having the dome as a solid metal piece really makes it work (for me at least). Getting the larger shoulder's might be a bit of a problem though.

Original edit. Just the dome.

Welp looks like the robot thing is at least serviceable or replaceable.

Might cut the whole head part off and put a nice servitor head in it.

Also feth yeah electro priests and the tracked guys.

From the WD it sounds like they aren't modelled after walkers of old, they ARE walkers of old. That's why they don't look like the ad mech stuff of today because they aren't.

You could also turn him into a mars attacks alien by putting one of those 25 cent clear plastic toy containers over a brain or some components (danger Magos Robinson, danger!)... but is it worth it?

That is so cool! I wonder if it will be possible to finish it cleanly with GS...

In the meantime, I've checked how it will look in my chosen colour scheme. It is not that bad, this model

Maybe the reskinned color pics would be better suited to a painting and modelling subforum thread? I'm all in for the lulz but it is getting a bit much.

I was a bit confused as to why heavy phosphor blasters were not an option for the Ironstriders, I guess the Servitors partly explain that.

So does it seem like the 'Bots get their own release week with the other 2 units and Magos in the week(s) to follow along with the codex?

That's what it looks like.

Tomorrow, the new Knight stuff goes up for preorder(releasing the following Saturday).
Knights go onto the shelves, Robots go up for preorder.
Robots go on the shelves, the Codex and remainder likely go up for preorder.

I think I finally figured out what I don't like about the electro priests; the widely spread leg poses and robe layouts are all basically the same for all five models. Mixing some of the Skitarii or even Sicarian legs into the electro priest units might make them MUCH more interesting

I think the Electro Priests are my least favourite of the Skitarii/Mechanicus sculpts. I am hoping that they are rubbish enough rules wise so that they do not have a place in my army.

I like your modification to remove visor.

Removing the visor makes it more menacing and less "astronaut".

I think painting the smoothed dome metallic (brass) would break it up a little more. Or yellow with danger stripe

Made much worse by the fact that these look like discount versions of the "castellans" FW sells.

The 50's thing is the thing I like about them. In the darness of the 41st millenium, there is only war (and Danger, Will Robinson!).

I really want to see the sprue layout for the 'bots before I make up my mind. The double shoulderpad trick should hopefully work to make it look more in line with the Castellax.

How can any one of us justify what armies "deserve" or "should" get Codices over another?

Based on whether or not they have a distinct gameplay niche. SoB are just another MEQ shooting army, especially now that the GK precedent pretty strongly suggests that we're never going to see any of the inquisition elements in the SoB codex again. You could easily move them into C:SM without losing any of their fluff or gameplay.

(And yes, this standard results in other armies losing their codex.)

I think you are wrong on Just about every point you make.

The SOB are and should be far more than space marines with boobs.

They embody the zealous, religious overtones of the Imperium and should have a codex with special rules and wargeaf that reflects that. And a new range of killer models.

in fact they are far more interesting than many of the marine chapters they insist on rehashing over and over...

Of course the average twelve year old (actual or mental age) can't get past "models with Boobies heh heh!!!" And won't play them so they have been allowed to languish. Sad really, but you have to give the kiddies what they want even if it's the same thing over and over with a different name...
