What formations would you like to see?

For Tau:

Long strike's Hammerhead Squadron:

3 Hammerheads (1must include Longstrike)

All Hammerheads get tank hunter and Long strike gets twin-linked.

Kroot Hunting Pack

4 Kroot squads, must include 1 shaper and only 1 shaper.

All Kroot gain furious charge.

The dark behind the eyes.

I'd like to see an IG formation based on taking multiple infantry platoons.

On the Internet

Sisters Formation based on Penance (Repentia, Confessor (which we need back first), Penitent Engines and Arco-flagellants (and pershaps a mob of some kind if we get one). Basically give them a buff of some kind to make getting across the board easier so they can punch the heresy out of their foe.

Outside of that, perhaps a formation based on each of the kinds of Sister (Dominions getting buffs based on load out, Retributors either getting Relentless or some kind of extra range, Exorcists getting a mass fire option of some kind, ect).

A Stealer and Lictor formation where they get to assault after they run and when assaulting through terrain they don't strike at Initiative 1. What should it entail? I guess 3 Lictors acting separately and 5 broods of 5 or 10 broods of Stealers.

Is it effective? No idea. It would be fun for me in playing a fluffy way though.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Deathwatch Space Marines
- 1 Watch Captain and 2+ Sternguard with Preferred Enemy (Xeno)

Any Eldar Formations with Craftworld specific methods of play. Illic and Pathfinders, Biel-Tan Aspect Warriors, Saim-Hann Jetbikes and Vypers, all with some bonus unavailable in the normal codex and none including a Wraithknight.

Any Imperial Guard Formations or Detachments... A Catachan Detachment with 1 Heavy Support and 6 Fast Attack and Stealth (Forests) Would be a very interesting thing to see pop up.

Sisters: A sisters formation of Penitent Engines, Arco-flagellants and Repentia would be nice. Could give them Fleet, Furious Charge and Shred (and allow the penitent engines to get a cover save at the cost of a Repentia or flagellant).

Daemons: A formation of Skull Cannons with Soul Blaze.

Chaos Space Marines: A formation of Defilers, Forge-Field - Mauler-Fiends, A Hel-Drake, A pack of Hel-brutes, Obliterators, A Sorcerer and a Warpsmith that can inflict "Gets Hot !" to a target squad or unit's weapons and "Immobilized' results to enemy vehicles, or can pick one of his daemon engines and bestow the ability to activate its daemon forge more than once per game.

Armageddon Steel Legion:

X Platoons all Chimera mounted, and X Chimera Veteran squads, chimera vets get BS4 chimera and the regulars get, I don't know, a bit extra movement or some other buff of some sort.

Something to make regular infantry in Chimeras a non objectively bad choice versus vets.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Generally speaking, my ideal here is to address weaker units to try to make them more desireable.

such as if I was putting together a formation for Grey Knights, I'd do something that enhances the use and appeal of purgation and strike squads. with that said..

Space Marines: Veteran Assault force. 1+ squads of assault terminators. 2+ squads of vanguard veterns. must deep strike in, and may assault out of deep strike.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Chaos Space Marines

A formation that allows you to apply the Chaos Marks to Terminators, Helbrutes, Defilers, Heldrakes, and other Demon Engines.

Legion-specific formations (Night Lords taking Raptors as troops, Iron Warriors taking Havocs as troops, etc.).

In short - all the things that should have been in the codex to begin with.

raptors and havocs as troops are unlikely given Slot mixing up shinnagens seems to be on it's way out, but I agree a formation or detachment for each legion'd be awesome.

for Iron warriors I'd make more troops mandatory, but give em extra heavy support.

so something like

Mandatory: 1 HQ, 3 troops. Optional: 1 HQ, 3 troops, 3 elite, 3 fast attack, 4 heavy support.

maybe trade objective secured on troops for all heavy support getting armorbane and a +1 to pen rolls vs fortifications?

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I expect a forthcoming end to if X is your warlord take Y as troops style FOC swaps, and alternate troops based on detachment. So with that in mind I propose the following.

Tau
- The Eight become a formation
- Farsight Detachment has extra elite slots, and a mandatory Crisis team instead of turning Crisis into troops
- Formation/Detachment optimized for Shadowsun and a lot of troops
-Vespid formation giving them twin-linked off the Deep Strike or something so that people take them

Marines
- No more bikes as troops but Formations/Detachments to represent Elite and Reserve companies

Termies can already take marks (unless you're talking about Daemonic alignments and not marks of chaos).

I'd love to see more legion specific organization in the way that SM get chapter tactics, though.

I would love for them to go ahead and just make the Chaos Marine Codex as big as the Space Marine Codex with the Legion themed "Chapter Tactics", Detachments and Formations.

What about this:

Armageddon Steel Legion Armoured Battle Group Formation:

1 Platoon Command Squad
2-4 Infantry Squad

Restrictions: All units must choose a dedicated transport and begin embarked in the vehicle.

Special rules:
- Mechanised Infantry: All units are immune to the passenger effects when their Transport receives a Crew shaken, Crew stunned, Weapon destroyed or Immobilised result (meaning, they don't need to take a Leadership test to see if they're stuck snap firing).
- Defensive Action: If a unit from this formation is embarked on a Transport under assault, they may disembark at the start of the Assault phase in order to enter combat; gaining +1 attack/model.

That's actually pretty awesome, and fits the theme of the Steel Legion being crazy enough to charge orks and occassionally not all die.
