Can I get a "Praise the Old Ones!"? Automatically Appended Next Post: We've known for a while that Creative Assembly has struck a deal with Games Workshop to create games in the Warhammer universe, but now we have evidence that a franchise-themed spin off for Total War will be announced imminently.
That's according to a note by Creative Assembly creative director Mike Simpson in a new Total War artbook, and while the book doesn't release officially until later this month, one Total War fan has gained access to the book early.
Discussing the future of the Total War series, Simpson referenced both Total War: Kingdom and Total War: Warhammer as examples of how the studio intends to experiment with multiplayer in the future. You can read the full excerpt over here (via NeoGAF). Judging by the timing of the book's release date, we're likely to hear from Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA about the spin-off in the coming weeks.
Some quarters of PC Gamer are so excited about the prospect of a Creative Assembly-helmed Warhammer game that they've put together enthusiastic wishlists for it. It is indeed a tantalising prospect, but it's not likely to arrive before Total War: Attila rolls out next month.

If CA manage to mess this up, I'll probably keep on playing it. Although I do have hope. It can't be as bad as the release version of Rome II

I don't mind if the game has bugs on release as long as they eventually fix them, like they did with Rome 2.
And honestly it should be hard to mess this up. They have all the mechanics necessary in every preceding TW game.

You need a full version of Medieval Total War 2 Kingdoms. Then head to the total war forums and find it in the kingdom hosted modifications.
Seeing as anyone who takes TW seriously should always download one mod anyway. They always made the game far better.

Well if you stick a unit of hoplites or phalanx in a street one on top of the other sure.. (I got so good at defendinjg cities with this I could hold out with 4-5 units against 2 full armies XD)
Effectively, taken head on, a shield and spear wall should be the best CC formation. However you sacrifice maneuverability and condense yourself for missile fire. One hit from flank or rear you can roll up an entire line easily. In the open field far outmanouvered by looser formations if not supported with cav and light infantry.
Legions were far more OP(pre barbarian invasion). Then again they bloody well should be!!! Roma invicta!!
I always though spears should negate the charge bonus in whfb if taken head on and should be made much less maneuverable then other troops.

clearly you haven't played medieval 2... pikemen wreck any unit head to head.

Haha, I loved that when you pile enough phalanx units on top of each other, when the game starts they are flung into the air in the same manner units are when they are hit by elephants, but then they just get up and brush it off. What I hated though was when cavalry would decide to flee... through a friendly phalanx. Especially when it was a general unit, the general would always die

I found that in Mid2 pikes sucked balls. They were horrible against anything that wasn't cavalry. They'd simply drop their pikes if fighting melee infantry and then get slaughtered.

Nah, Phalanx were really a little too strong in Rome1. Although it was an accurate representation. Phalanx were really unbeatable from the front, except with a bigger phalanx/longer pikes. And they did crumble if charged in the rear or flank.

Yeah well too bad because that nation is dust now. I'm unsure if warhammer fantasy in total war would show all the minor factions though i wouldn't be surprised seeing all the various small factions in total war. That said a lot of them were very samey or at least in shogun 2. I've only really played shogun 2 and fall of the samurai and most units wear the same excepting a few different units per faction. Btw i have to wonder what a real skaven faction would look like in total war. Could you imagine like thousands of skaven just bursting forward? Sheesh that'd be nuts to face.

Well there is only so much you can do with Feudal Japan. Its not like there was much differentiation IRL as far as what you could put in a computer game.
As for Skaven, who knows? Maybe they'll have a unique tunnel system where they can access certain parts of the map from other points. Like they could choose to enter the tunnel system and pop out somewhere else over a few turns, but would have a chance of suffering attrition or maybe even total destruction(damn backstabbin Clan Eshin mongrels!)

More likely a cave-in since skaven are terrible at safety in engineering. As long as it does its job they don't care how many die since 'life is cheap' (it's one of their rules man!). That would be cool to have a tunnel system though.
I keep thinking about the hilarity of the skaven diplomacy screen. You all know that's just going to be epic/priceless (esp. if there are multiple skaven clans). Also loyalty of generals will be a funny thing to have. Basically loyalty of generals would never get above a 2 or 3 tops or more likely it always stays at a one. I'm wondering if it would get f**king annoying to play with though. The clan management system would also probably be pretty hilarious as well as buildings.
I wonder how this would all be for say ogre kingdoms and orcs & goblins. Oh look animosity again! Sh*t f**k! Then there's the deal with undead and instability. Ho ho ho man that's a whole bag of sh*t nobody is gonna want to deal with if the general dies.

My main hopes are that they take the best parts from the old video game, Shadow of the horned rat. I liked that they had magic weapons that could be found on certain maps. That with monstrous creatures and heroes will make me one happy dude. If it is done right my time spent on the other total wars will look like a drop in the bucket lol.

I doubt Total war will give us much in the way of monstrous creatures. though, they have one great M2 mod too look for for inspirations in total war call of warhammer. Seriously, they just need to take that mod, give it backing, and tweak it in places.
