I like happy endings but I also like depressing circumstances. anyone suggest something that will crush my soul and then hospitalise it with the end?

Voices of a Distant Star if you want a movie. It will punch out your soul and gak in the hole. Another excellent heavyweight in the film category is Grave of the Fireflies. Wolf's Rain or Clannad for a series.

Well, this week's Death Parade had a scene that became one of my favorite's ever. Magical and happy and sad and depressing at the same time. AND THEN, we get yet another bitter-sweet moment.

This anime is the good kind of deep... Really makes one think but it doesn't sound obnoxious because it doesn't use cryptic bullgak.

This one I must share. This is heresy of the highest quality. It's a bit off-topic, but I can't help it

Speaking of Kill la Kill, I've been re-watching it and have come to the conclusion that Mako could actually be the strongest character. She has absolutely no fighting strength or talent, but, someohoe, a mere two star uniform puts her on par, or possibly higher than the student council. Just imagine her with a three star uniform.

Good suggestion guys, Angel Beats was pretty neat, I liked it.

Yeah, spoilers within:
Spoiler:
I didn't get all worked up about much of anything though... all of the people leaving and moving on was technically a good thing and that didn't really bother me. That last bit with Kanede and Yuzuru *almost* had me, but then they threw us that bone with the humming and recognition in the (supposedly) real world at the very end.

Overall this was actually a really happy ending. Compare it to the ending of Gurren Lagann... y'know that will have it's own spoiler next just in case...

(gurren lagann spoilers within, be ware!)
Spoiler:
When Nia just freaking evaporates the instant they get married, that was probably the nastiest gut-punch a book/movie/show has ever delivered. And he goes on to become some kind of awkward hermit. I mean humanity moves on and it's a relatively positive ending for everyone else... but after all of that brutal fighting, losing so many friends, and such an epic final battle, to basically come out the other end with nothing to show for it.... poor Simon IMO.

So... got any other gems I should have watched years ago?

Just watched the first episode of kancolle. It's stupid, adorable, and kind of cool all at the same time. I never did understand the ship girl craze, but I'm a reader at heart. I care more about character than looks.

Cute girls + WW2 History appeals to a very specific demographic of nerd. *waves hand*

I think the main arc of Angel Beats mirrors a lot of "life" people leave our lives, things end, and sometimes they end in what seems to be a very "final" sense... but there's always hope. Which is what that last few seconds reminds me of.

Gurren Lagann:
Spoiler:
I had an absolute devastating case of the feels from Gurren Lagann... I watch like 6 episodes and then went back to a bunch of other stuff, and then last weekend I watched 7 to the end, and the whole time I'm like THIS IS FETHING TERRIBLE CAN'T ANYTHING GOOD HAPPEN IN THIS ANIME?!" and then they started to fight back and all of the things that made me go "FUUUUUUU" drifted away and by the end, when the Nia thing happened, I'm like... "This... this was totally worth it." I also feel bad for Simon

Yep. I kinda stalled for a long, LOOONG time about that bit of the anime.

Also, finally watching past Ep. 12 of Aldnoah.Zero, and I had a realization.

There's some significant Cold War undertones. We've got the Earth folks (who're essentially the West), with all the resources spread evenly through market forces, defending against the advance of the Reds (Mars) who's warmongering is being perpetrated in the name of distributing the resources they get more evenly, but actually being pushed forward by a powerful few.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

I watched far too much anime this weekend >_<

I watched KanColle and K-ON! season 1 and 2... All so I didn't burn through the latest episodes of Log Horizon and Durarara... Because due to my work schedule, I'm still up early as hell on Saturday morning, so I could have seen LH minutes after it was released..
