Moe is slowly killing the animated artistry Anime used to be a haven for, like a strangler fig breaking apart an ancient Aztec ruin.
It's looking more and more apparent that Japan's animation industry is nosediving into a Moe-themed Animation Age Ghetto, similar to what American animation suffered back when 'toons got a 'kids stuff' stigma associated with them. Nobody would buy or show serious, artful animation because it wasn't 'kid friendly', and so nobody would make anything serious or artful, and so the only stuff that was made was for kids, and so production values went down because 'kids are satisfied with bright colors and silly noises' and we ended up with Hannah Barbera being the pinnacle of the animation industry for a decade.
American animation is still dragging itself back up from there, with creators like Faust and Tartakovski and the blossoming of the feature-length animated movie thanks to the Disney Renaissance, but there's still shows like Johnny Test and its gag-a-day staticky-model ilk. (don't even get me started on Teen Titans Go!)
Japan used to allow its animation industry to experiment and flourish, creating gems like Eureka7 and Trigun and Hellsing and Lupin III and Big O, or the artyer stuff like Magnetic Rose, or the thinky stuff like GiTS and RoD. (and that's just what I've watched personally- there's tons more fantastic stuff I've not touched yet). But then someone noticed that "Ratings are up for big-eyed MoeBlobs doing silly things" and now it's infested everything.
I'm not saying that it'll destroy Anime like it did to Tooning in America- places like Ghibli and Trigger will see to the preservation of the strange and out-there- but we're gonna be drowning in Moe where Moe doesn't need to be, and animation as a whole will suffer for it. I mean, just think about it. Strike Witches could have been a really wrenching series about a government forced to send child soldiers out with untested technology to fight off alien invaders in the middle of a war- with uneasy alliances between the warring Earth countries, tragic malfunctions in the insane propeller-boots, budding romances cut short by national lines and the horrors of war... But instead it's cute girls in short skirts with animal ears, flying off and being 'heroic' without any real danger. There's a deep mystery involved in Infinite Stratos, but it's been completely overglossed by the fanservice. Girls Und Panzer could have been a touching coming of age story set in a unique world, but that was ignored in favor of 'cute'.
Story should come before style, always. If you can tell your story and have a fantastic, interesting style? Great! But I literally care more about the characters in "The Dot and the Line: A Romance in Lower Mathematics" than I do about whether or not Konata Izumi had red bean paste in her lunch or not.
Characterization is Love, Story is Life.

I'd hardly say it's that bad. I see very few anime that is cute for the sake of cuteness being on top. And we still have authors like Hiromu writing, so I'm not worried.

Now, Anvildude, I don't believe it's a situation as dire as you mean. There's moe, oh yes, there's no doubt it, mostly thanks to Lucky Star. Lucky Star could be called one of those experiments you mention, one that showed "Cute girls doing cute things sells like hot-cakes", and you know how the big shots love them muneyz, but there's still plenty of variety out there. Hell, there's even shows with "Moe" that use it to make us suffer. (I'm looking at you, Black Bullet. THE LOLI MURDER D: )
But then again, you criticized GuP. That makes you an awful, awful, AWFUL person and no one should take you seriously.
TBH, I don't think I'd have enjoyed GuP as much as if if WAS serious. This was "Cute Girls doing Tank battles" AND I LOVED IT. It was fun, really, really fun but light-hearted and I loved the show for it. The battle scenes were amazing, the girls were cute and entertaining, it was great!
Hell, you know my opinion of Gundam Try Fighters and how much I like it because it gives me awesome mech fights with no deaths! So ok, I guess I'm extremely biased in this matter.

There is a season for all things; a time for grimdark, and a time for moe.
Which reminds me, THAT episode of UBW looms closer (and I still haven't seen Roberta's Blood Trail....)
In other news, D-Frag is getting dubbed, so I have something to watch when the UBW feels get too strong to ignore.

Our Lady of the Generous Heart: 2,000 points
Thousand Sons: One unbuilt Daemon Prince
Unlimited Blade Works, which is the current route the latest Fate/Stay Night anime is following.
Which makes me question the logic of making a Heaven's Feel movie, since it's the longest route and will probably be made into a series in nine years anyway (if the current pattern holds, that is.)

It feels that way to begin with however it starts getting really good again. The last few episode will hit you in the feels. Just bear with it for a bit longer.

Armies I have: Chaos Space Marines, Tau, Necrons, High Elves
Armies I want:Lizardmen, Warriors Of Chaos, Dark Eldar
Armies I may get: Dark Angels, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts
Where did you find the show? I never found the complete series and I NEED it in my life.
Besides having one of the best openings EVER, it's funny as hell from the clips I saw on youtube.

Don't forget "incredibly adorable."
That show restored my faith in humanity after the despair wrought by Fate/Stay Night.
And youtube is where I watched it, too. I love that op.

That will be a challenge. It wouldn't be too hard to craft though wouldn't it?
In KM news, I'm now watching Hyouka, and it's quite excellent, if you haven't checked it out, I'd highly encourage it, and not just because it features another fantastic OP by Choucho.

So apparently there is going to be a Jitsu wa Watshi wa anime, but the character designs are super generic. Which is really annoying, because of I love the art style

Ironic that the eyes are actually smaller in the anime.
Something to consider, though, is that there's definitely getting to be a 'basic anime' style, and with the Japanese animation industry being sort of Tech-School entry level in its general makeup, the more bland and identical they get the character models, the easier it is to dump an outline on a studio and have them 'go at it'.

Humph. So I finished Hyouka, I quite liked it, but it put me in the wrong mood. It didn't punch my soul out, or give me a pleasant feeling, but instead the bittersweet melancholy that is... life. Considering my current health status, it's probably not what I needed... but, I enjoyed it anyway, and once again, strongly recommend it.

Assassin ninja nurses would have been better with a smaller cup size, and if the main character didn't just look like a soulless prick...
I read the description for that, and in addition to listing ecchi as a genre it specifically called out the large busted nurses in the plot and I was just out.

I'm interested in this one. Was the first episode fun, at least? I already have a serious anime, a soul-crushing anime and soon enough Knights of Sidonia and Ninja Slayer. I need to find one "junk food"-anime and this was the likely candidate
