I need to prove to my friend that: you can only add a herald of Chaos (ex. Herald of Slaanesh), to your army list if the chaos daemon detachment is your primary.

He thinks you can take a single herald if your chaos daemons are an Allied detachment(not CAD).

Neither of you are quite right. You can take up to four Heralds in any detachment, not just your Primary.

This was amended in the FAQ.

? Heralds are an HQ choice for Chaos Daemons. You can take one as an HQ choice in a Daemons Allied Detachment. You don't get the rule that lets you take four for one slot in Allies, but you can still take them. Are you really so scared of Heralds you'd rather fight a FMC psyker?

If i am reading the question right
you can take 4 herald per HQ slot if they are your primary detachment.
If they are an ally you can take a herald but you can only take one. You also need to take a troop.
If you are playing unbound you can take all the heralds you want.

Hey, didn't notice that. Cool! Four Heralds of Tzeentch and a big Pink Horrors squad as Allies are on the menu now.

They FAQed it, you can now have four per HQ slot in any detachment.

For the sake of accuracy, you can't take "for per HQ slot" - that implies you can take eight in a CAD. The actual rule is that you can take up to four total in any Detachment, and those would all count as a single HQ choice.

Errrm, since when are Heralds a 0-1 choice?

You can take 8 in a CAD 4 heralds = 1 HQ slot, 8 Heralds = 2 HQ slots

EDIT: Has been a fair while since I have read the daemons book, but I swear they werent 0-1?

In 6th edition you could take up to 4 Heralds in a Primary Detachment (using a single HQ slot). In an Allied detachment, you can still take Heralds (nothing restricts it) however, each Herald uses an HQ slot.

When 7th was released, they changed Primary Detachment to Any detachment.

So in a single CAD you can take up to 4 Heralds using a single HQ slot. If you want more Heralds, you need to take more detachments.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Not hugely, as it summons PB for resilient scoring troops, and greater daemons if needs be.
