More importantly, does he know that you are bringing forgeworld experimental rules, and not fully released rules?

I would say that it seems pretty fair, i would play against that, especially after the nerf to the AP of the R'varnas Pulse Submunitions. (Or well, I don't like riptides in general, since they are about the most durable unit in the game, but that is fine, someone has to be the most durable).

Also, if he think Tau is super cheese, offer to trade armies for 2-3 games and let him try them out, so that the both of you can get a better grip of what is the problems/strengths of both armies.

This silence offends Slaanesh! Things will get loud now!

There's nothing fair with Tau. Unless he has really sank money into his SM army it's going to be tough for him in every game.

Drone Controller doesn't affect Missile Drones.

Your list is way underpowered. There is nothing wrong with Tau (SM are more competitive than us) so take what you like and what he thinks!

Why does the drone Controller nothing to missile drones?

Check out the rules for Drone Controllers on the page with Support Systems - not the summary at the back of the book. DC only affects certain types of Drones.

Don't take this the wrong way Winter, but I wouldn't consider this to be a competitive list (especially since the R'Varna experimental rule changes slapped it hard with the nerf stick) so I can't imagine any legitimate reason your friend wouldn't play it.

Looks like a fun shooty list to play though!

Regarding your confusion on the drone controller, if you go to page #68 of the Tau codex you'll see that it mentions Gun, Marker, and Sniper drones. But not the Missile drones. This is one of those things where they spelled it out in one place (#68) but failed to spell it out in the quick reference page (#105/back jacket) so you go with the more specific entry.

Have fun, and as the other poster said: Offer to let him play against you with swapped armies. Gives you a chance to try and pick your own army apart and him a chance to learn the weaknesses.

Nothing fair about the tau? Like all around bs3 t3? Quit crying and make a real sm list. Or play eldar serpant spam and just win.

That being said the R'VARNA's rules are no long experimental and got nerfed to all hell. It will generate wounds but he will need to fail his 3+ armor everywhere as is it now ap4. Hazard suits are cool but generally considered overcosted.

Hiwever if you're concerned about him calling you out on cheese just write an all regular codex list with no early warning override or buff mander/Mark'o comander and you should have avoided many of the major complaints about tau. Don't use forgeworld if you want to avoid being called out for cheese. Even if you aren't useing the new Y'varah or the tetra or any of the other "better" forgeworld units best to play regular codex and avoid the controversy.

This.

No matter how "powerful" your army, with no marker support you're unlikely to do very well so it should be fine for your opponent.

Just make sure he is completely aware of all forgeworld rules (print official sheets out for him or something)

Have a great time, and because the some other poster stated: Offer to permit your pet enjoy in opposition to you along with changed military. Gives you a chance to attempt to choose your own personal army apart as well as him a chance to educate yourself on the weaknesses.
