So, I'd like to know what would be best way to convert Vindicare Assassin (the one with Sniper Rifle).

I may just order the original mini from GW site, but first off, I hate Finecast and I preffer to avoid it, and second - this mini is just old and has kinda weird pose (at least in my opinion).

So, what would be best way, model or kit? It doesn't have to be just one model because bitz are always nice to see and spare "dudes" would be useful for Inquisitorial Henchmen, but I just want this particular, 150pts son of a bullet with big gun to look as good as it can be.

So, what, in your opinion, would fit best? I was thinking about boxes like :

- Militarium Tempestus Scions (sniper guns, nice helmets, fancy armor)
- Cadian Command Squad (there is Sniper Rifle as well, as some bitz and thingies)
- Cadian Snipers 2-pack (nice pose and raincoats)
- Scouts with Sniper Rifles ( and change them a bit )
- Empire Master Engineer (to convert him in Sci-Fi manner)

I would actually suggest something Eldar or DE, maybe Scourges or Dire Avengers. They look more like the synthskin suits worn by assassains, and a box of 5 and some creative bitsboxing gets you one of each type of assassain.

But problem lies with their sleekness and complete lack of proper head for me, as well as a gun. Sure, Dire Avenger's armor looks exactly like Synthskin, but what combine them with to achieve best effect ?

In that case, what about Scions mixed with Eldar? I don't know if the heads would scale well, though. DE Wyches have some very nice assassainy heads, if that helps.

Easy start would be a Eldar Body (remove jems (outrageous))
The back will be an issue and probably require GS work.
The gun is fairly iconic but i guess you could use the SM sniper IIRC its cheap bit.

No clue on the head. you could mask quite a bit of it by putting him on a relatively scenic base to hide the back and stuff.

Seems like good option, but I'll have to check scale of both heads and arms if it fits - but I guess that after some work it should do

I thought about them as well, but their armor doesn't look so Assassiny or Imperial to me - a bit too much spikes and unclothed parts.

If you're not dead-set on a GW model, I'd check out Infinity. It's 28mm, but realistic rather than heroic scale, meaning everything is a lot sleeker. Not to mention that Corvus Belli is absolutely on point with their poses, making them look extra... 'assassin-y'. I'm planning on ordering a few minis to use as a Vindicare and a Culexus. You'd have the easiest time finding models to use as Vindicare and Callidus assassins, as there are a lot of models with snipers and knives.

I've actually seen a really great conversion of a Space Marine Scout as a Vindicare.

If you don't mind going outside 40k Infinity's got a respectable range of models that could work.

Both Eldars have some good starts, the question is how good are you at sculpting?

Personally I'm looking at DE wyches along with picking from my bits bin at the moment.

Also the conversion route is rarely cheaper in my experience, but it is a lot more fun then just buying something and it gives you bragging rights

If you are looking for a quick and cheap conversation to save money most people I know convert him mostly from the bits in the cadian command squad. You get a sniper rifle in the box and enough bits to convert a more sly marbo type model. Especially if you already have some sm scout or new storm troop bits in your bits box to add to him.

your actually not touching the special weapon and commander bits most people are looking for from that box to do it.

Eldar bodies aren't that bad for the base, all I did was cut the head and the pistol hand off, and promptly mucked the whole thing up with some piss poor green stuffing.

be careful going this route, the ankles and wrists of the Eldar models are thin and will probably require pins if you plan on redoing the pose. Mine the ankle has broken from just basic handling and storing.

Dark Eldar with Scion heads do indeed work together. I did this for a couple of spyrer conversions.
