So I just happened to stumble across the bit of fluff where Njal kills a BT with psychic powers.... wait WHAT? I thought Greater Daemons of Khorne were pretty much immune to psychic powers. Can anybody explain to me how this may have happened?

Through the magical powers of the rare element "handwaveium"

I get a feeling that when writers don't have any interesting ideas on how to make a character look cool, he's just killing a bloodthirster.

While it is certainly true that bloodthirsters got killed way to often with respect to their martial prowess (barring perhaps the Avatar of Khaine),but I don't really know where the "Khornate Daemons are immune to warp magicks" comes from; for example, it'd be very inconvenient for a writer justify a Tzeentchen combat victory over Khorne, and one such victory would be without the signature powers of the Change of the Ways.

You don't 'kill' a Bloodthirster. You send it home for a few years.

And "Khornate Daemons are immune to warp magicks" comes from the Collars of Khorne, which aren't on everything and keep getting nerfed anyway.

Heresy my friend, you're only praying once in the first hour of your day. It's like you're asking for the Inquisitors to visit.

Also, Njal's staff is made of Plottium, that's how.

*facepalm* So general explanation seems to be...

1. BTs are the new Avatars - punching bag in the galactic scale.
2. He wasn't wearing a shiny collar his master should have given him.
3. Space magics. Don't ask.

The "BT are immune to Psychic powers" come from Collars of Khorne you used to be able to get. IIRC in one edition they made you immune, the next they gave you a 2+ invulnerable and the next they were gone for the most part? I do believe Fantasy still has them.
Also, last edition Kharne was immune to Psychic powers (which was nerfed to 2+ Deny the Witch)

Also, Njal doesn't use the Warp, he calls upon the worldspirit of Fenris. #Loophole

Pretty much. Anytime a GW/BL author wants to demonstrate how much of a badass a character is, they just have them beat up a Bloodthirster or an Avatar.

Seriously Njal Stormcaller is a badass, one of the most badass psykers in this setting. So I can totally see him kill a Bloodthirster. Seriously that Hector Rex-fellow, just an Ordo Malleus Lord Inquisitor even traded blows with one before killing it, so I don't see the big issue.

If you have nothing nice to say then say frakking nothing.

The issue is that none of them should be able to kill a blood thirster.

But wasn't that sword Rex used to kill An'ggrath some sort of anti-warp weapon (although some sources wrote it's some sort of force weapon)?

Mostly Avatar of Khaine, but yeah, if no avatars are available then a bloodthirster will suffice

Arias, supposedly blessed by Empy's own hand and carried by the greatest heroes of Ordo Malleus and Hector Rex is close to being a Space Marine though. Plus I personally think not every Greater Daemon is created equal.

So I doesn't mind this that much as you already have Ragnar throwing the Spear of Russ through Magnus the Red's eye twice and Ciaphas Cain chasing a panicking demon tugging Jurgen along. And neither story I mind that much. We have one more, but I hate it so I will spare you the details.

In Fantasy IIRC they now just give you MR2. Which is +2 to your ward save against wounds from spells.

So pretty sucky.

I mean, it is within the realm of possibility for Njal to kill a Bloodthirster. It would be a really cool bit of backstory... if it wasn't that everyone else has killed one too

Even if it is were wearing the collar...

That stops Njal just lightning-bolting it back into hell, but it doesn't stop him picking up a rock the size of a Land Raider and slamming the Bloodthirster, or dropping a building on its head. The magic can't hurt it directly, but something hard moving at high velocity will.

Alternatively, he could just stand on a suspiciously narrow bridge, wait for the BT to come along and yell 'You Shall Not Pass!'...

Error 218: Sense of humour not found.

What I meant was that because the Space Wolves believe they draw power from Fenris not the warp, that it does in fact give them a loophole to negate Khornate antipsychic gear.

I always thought the BTs could be overpowered if the psyker were strong enough. And both Rex and Stormcaller are very potent psykers with lots of very nifty and good wargear so I can see them taking out even Greater Daemons and maybe even destroying them. Other people has done that even without psychic powers.

Indeed. Belief is a powerful force in 40k.

True, but I doubt that belief is going to stop something like that. Fact is what'll stop it. If the loophole actually works, then that confirms the belief as fact and then we know for a fact that Rune Priests draw power from a Spirit that isn't a Warp Spirit. However, this Bloodthirster was not confirmed to be wearing one of these immunity collars, correct?

For Imperials, Worf is the Avatar or the Bloodthirster.

For tau it's a leman russ. Whenever tau fluff needs to show how awesome and advanced they are, a hammerhead/riptide blows up a squadron of leman russes.
And than it states: "That happened cause tau are so advanced and awesome, kids". Like in the old cartoons.
