So, in the event you missed it, Kanye West went on one of his sadly typical rants at the Grammy's, this time about artistry

Here's a link to a video and an article; http://pitchfork.com/news/58392-kanye-west-beck-needs-to-respect-artistry-and-he-should-have-given-his-award-to-beyonce/

Update, 2/9 6:13 AM EST: Beck has offered his thoughts on the whole situation in an interview with Us Weekly. Turns out he was actually kind of stoked about the whole thing. "I was just so excited he was coming up. He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody," Beck told Us Weekly. "How many great records has he put out in the last five years, right?” Asked about West's comments that Beyoncé should have won, Beck replied, “Absolutely,” adding, "I thought she was going to win. Come on, she's Beyoncé!”
Last night, Beck won the Album of the Year Grammy at the 2015 Grammy Awards for Morning Phase. During Beck's acceptance speech, West ran up on stage (he gave no remarks, and refrained from snatching the mic). In a post-event interview with E!, he explained the reasons why he took action. As suspected previously, the storming was in protest of Beyoncé not winning. "Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it," he explained, later noting that he didn't say anything because "I'm not going to do nothing to to put my daughter at risk". Watch the entire interview below.
Speaking with E!, West detailed his disdain for the award show, framing Beyoncé's loss as a disrespectful act:
The Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain't gonna play with them no more. 'Flawless,' Beyoncé video. Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it. Because what happens is, when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you're disrespectful to inspiration.
He went on, explaining why last night's incident didn't go the way of the infamous VMAs stage-storming back in 2009:
We as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place. Then they [the show's producers] do this whole promotional event, they'll run the music over somebody's speech, the artist, because they want commercial advertising. Like, no, we not playing with them no more. By the way, I got my wife, my daughter and my clothing line, so I'm not going to do nothing to put my daughter at risk but I am here to fight for creativity. That's the reason why I didn't say anything tonight. But you all know what it meant when 'Ye walks on the stage.

Now, this is just ridiculous/hilarious for many reasons, the least of which is summarized by this lovely meme:

Kanye seems so tone deaf sometimes, it's insane.

Is it bad I like Kanye? His music is fun sometimes.
Records are meaningless TBH. There are like 2 songs on them that are worth listening to by themselves and the rest you listen too because you are too lazy to reach into your pocket to change.
But in all honesty, it is because he is Alternative Rock/folk, a genre that is hard to get on the top 100s w/o it somehow being pop. Some people like kenye only consider hip-hop music.

Kanye is an idiot and has little to no talent. Why is his real life trolling a topic in here?

Because, His attitude is kinda pervasive in mainstream media, that those who are "Artists" have to be pre-packeged sellouts.

Spoiler:

So Beck can play more instruments than Beyonce, but Beyonce's vocal range and power punishes Beck's. Regardless about how you feel about either one personally, they both have artistic merit and are both greatly talented.

The point is, artistry isn't a dick-measuring contest like that meme makes it out to be.

Not quite. Is he an assclown? Sure, but that doesn't mean he isn't talented.

You don't get to be one of the best selling artists of all time with "little to no talent." I don't think he's a great of a rapper at all, but he's a pretty damn good producer.

And some, I assume, are good people."

I've really worked hard to condition myself to ignore all celebrity news and gossip. Anytime Kardashian or whoever talk comes up I just think "meh..who cares?"......

But it's something about Kayne West that manages to slip past that and trigger a bit of mouth foaming.

Kanye West is an asshat, an extremely talented one and probably a genius/idiot savant, but an asshat all the same.

Not really sure what we're supposed to talk about, though?

Well, it depends, am I an artist because I paint minis? Art is defined by each personal person

I pray that if Kanye wins a grammy, that someone will rush the stage and take the mic from him. Hopefully they say something like "hold on kanye I will let you finish in a minute...."

Kayne is a successful man with very poor character traits and, sadly, works in a business that stopped being about music quite a long time ago.

That sums it up. I'm guessing that he surrounds himself with yes-men that only reinforce his belief that he is not an ass.

Only Kanye is fit to judge the Kanye.
EDIT: You may praise Kanye if you wish.

Isn't he the prick that tried to barge Taylor Swift off stage a few years ago because he didn't like her winning an award. What an obnoxious piece of work.

Least of all Kanye West. I mean, the idea that he thinks about internet criticism for even a moment is laughable. It's like disapproving of some fish off in Bermuda, it doesn't need your approval and isn't even aware you exist, because to it, you functionally don't.

This sums it up quite well.

Spoiler:

You can keep your Beyonce and Kanye West. I'm quite happy listening to Ben Howard, Of Monsters and Men, Syd Matters, Birdy and Dan Bull.

Oh and the ironic thing is, I'm more likely to buy a Beck album because of Kanye being an arse than I ever am to buy Kanyes music. I've never knowingly listened to his music and that probably isn't going to ever change.

Now please excuse me, I'm off to check out Becks music on the Kindle store.

I don't know how anyone in all honesty could call Kanye irrelevant considering he's one of the most important music figures in recent history and as obnoxious as he is that donkey-cave behavior makes him even more relevant as the media love making stories out of controversy.

Most important music figures? I don't think so. I listen to a wide variety of music, and I can say he doesn't affect a single one of them.

Hip hop and pop music maybe, but that's a nice generalization you made there

The very sad sad thing, is that in the media, Hip hop and pop might aswell be the only music today....

People are probably going to hate me for this but The Grammy's are kind of joke very few of the artists that win these awards are truly great (obviously there are exceptions). Just so you guys think I'm not being unfair I looked at the Grammy's from 1978, as 1977 was a year where lots of

innovation was happening in what was at the time fairly new genres such as New Wave, Punk, Post-Punk music and pretty much all of that goes unrecognized and instead most of these awards are going to artists that nobody has heard or cared about in decades. Checked a few other years

and it doesn't seem to really improve.

I'm quite the musical elitist, so my opinion is moot.

Kanye is absolutely nuts. I'm not much of a rap fan, but I know that he is pretty good at it. However, he does think highly of himself, and I'm fairly certain that he believes that the sun shines out of his butt.

However, he is also completely ironic. Kayne says that Beck needs to respect the artistry, (although calling music an art is a little far fetched in my opinion, it's more of a business), but it's quite obvious that Kayne doesn't respect Beck's art. So it's okay to disrespect art that Kayne doesn't like, but to do so back is not.

And Beck should grow a back bone. Seriously.

Hip Hop and Pop music is what I'm talking about as that's the genres Kanye works with, and other than the post-punk and garage rock revival of the early to mid 2000's I can't think of anything musically that has been really that interesting since then (especially in rock) other than Kanye. Don't

get me wrong I love Beck's "Mellow Gold" and "Odelay" albums but I've never had an interest in his other stuff and those albums are from the late 90's.

Music is definetly art, as is performing. Beck and Beyoncé are both great artists, and I would probably agree that when you take the whole package (music, vocals, videos, stage presence, live performances) Beyoncé might be a bigger and better artist than Beck. But the Grammys are not about who is the best performer, they are about songs and albums. And who knows what tickles their fancy during any given year.

All fish know of Kanye

One thing that I thought was inappropriate during the original Swift incident was some interviewer asking Kanye what his mother would have thought of the incident and she had died relatively recently at the time. The man's an ass but that was low.
