I'm just about to start assembling a pretty sizeable Eldar army. It includes most of the units in the Eldar codex, including Wraithknights. However, since Imperial Knights can ally with Eldar, I'll have one model 'counts as' an Imperial Knight.

I'm a big fan of allies for the conversion opportunities they give, but on the other hand I hate whenever mono-codex army themes are ruined. For example, I could not play an Eldar army with an actual Imperial Knight model stomping in there. It would just look preposterous and totally out of place to me.

So, the plan is to use the same base as the Imperial Knight uses, and use a Wraithknight model as the foundation. It would be converted to become a 'Heavy Wraithknight', and would have a slightly lower profile pose than the standard, and added armour pieces to make it look significantly more heavy. It would hold a close combat weapon and a ranged big weapon to represent the thermal cannon, and a small ranged weapon to represent the heavy stubber.

I'm pretty much set on making this model regardless, but I'm curious if there's someone out there that would have a problem with playing against a model like this (built using exclusively GW models and parts). It would possibly be fielded in the same time as another actual Eldar Wraithknight or two. If you have any comments or suggestions please do share.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Personally I would have no issue. As long as it was clear and distinct, the rule of cool would direct this one.

If anyone gives you a problem don't play them. Rule of cool trumps all so go all out & you'll find more often than not people will accept a nice model than a half ass job.

In my experience, if you're using a set of rules to help you create something awesome and original, than most people are cool with it.

Contrary to that, if you are throwing together something to simply justify using a set of rules, most people are not as willing to accept your counts as.

As long as its roughly the same size, go for it. I love conversions and counts as, for instance, I hate the Flesh Hounds traditional models and use the Warhounds of Chaos in their place.

As others have said, as long as it’s clear what it is, and looks cool, most people will forgive a lot.

That said, the idea of Imperial Knights in an Eldar army, timed with the harlequin release, brought to mind their habit of looting stuff in the old days. Imagine an IK painted brightly in a harli motley, cheerful banners waving, as harlequin troupers spring and dance around it.

Could be fun.
