So this year me and two mates have decided to do a tale of games style challenge, with the end goal being a 1650 point tournament in January 2016. We have all started a new army, with one lad going for Blood Angels, one for 30k style Iron Warriors (using the Space Marine codex), and myself going with Eldar. All three of us will be sharing our progress online to help us keep motivated. This will be my first hobby blog, and am a little nervous with sharing my work. After this first post I will try and keep to as few words as possible and loads of WIP pics.
I wanted to show a little Japanese theme with the elder army, and will mostly show this through the basing (as you will see, I like finding different ways to base my models), and I also just put what models I think are cool in an army and think about how to play them after. However, this will be my very first tournament (a lot of firsts, I know), and with the aim to paint at least 150 points a month, from February to December, I have actually written an army list in advance. This is what I came up with, and I believe I am lucky to have chosen a strong codex, so hopefully it will work.

HQ
Farseer: Jetbike
Prince Yriel

Troops
10 Dire Avengers: Exarch: Power Weapon, Shimmershield, Wave Serpent: Scatter Laser, and a Warlock
5 Windrider Jetbikes: Shuriken Cannon
5 Eldar Rangers

Elite
5 Wraithguard, Wave Serpent: Scatter Laser and a Warlock

Fast Attack
Crimson Hunter
5 Swooping Hawks: Exarch

Heavy Support
Wraithknight: Suncannon, Scattershield, Scatter Laser

The aim was to put in models which would be fun to model and to not get whipped by every opponent.
Below is a picture of a test model for Eldar I did a while ago. I will hopefully post some more WIP pics tonight or tomorrow.

So my first 150 points for Feb will be to start the Wraithknight, as I already have this model and what a model to work on. Started with the base and decided to play on the japanese theme with the tree and the ribbon.

Next update for the wraithknight. He's green... Also started to put a base down for the White areas. Aim to get the White all finished and then on to the spirit stones.

Finally got some more painting done this evening after a weekend away. White all finished and a few tiny bits of colour added. Next on to do the spirit stones and gems.

Popped into my old work place today and picked up a few bits, including the next unit to the biel-tan once the wraithknight is finished. Also picked up the next Archaon book, been really looking forward to this book.

Got some more work done on the wraithknight, with all the gems/spirit stones blocked out. Need to start adding the colour now.

As I mentioned at the start of this thread there are three of us taking part in the challenge, what follows is the link to their blogs if you were interested in taking a look.
First up is Blood Angels;

Thanks for linking my BA thread, bud! This is looking awesome - it's great to see the work progressing. The gems on that Wraithknight are ridiculous! Good luck getting them all coloured in!

The Wraithknight is finally all finished. I've got a few work in progress pics for the gems and then the completed model on it's base. Next up will be the Crimson hunter. 300pts done, 1350 left to go.

Time to start on the next unit in the army. The Crimson Hunter is built to its sub assemblies as well as getting a base constructed. In the pictures you can see the idea what the model will look like when fully finished on it's base. I've added a few guardians as felt it looked a little sparse. In the final picture you can see what parts I have left separate. The crimson hunter itself if split into just plane and pilot, with the canopy to be added when it is finished. I will spray this model white to brighten up the colour a little. The guardians are stuck to bases with a little superglue for ease of painting. These will be detached when they are finished. The main components of the base will be sprayed black with the leaves white, to save time in painting the pink blossom.

Got a little bit of painting done yesterday, not too much of a chance to do any work on the project last week. I hope to do much more this week, and post up details most days about how the model is coming along.

Looking amazing man. The Japanese theme, while not the first thing that springs to mind for eldar, fits perfectly. So elegant. Where are the trees from? I'm working on a forest theme Saim Han army and I'd love a few of those.

Starting on Eldar.

Hi, thanks for the comment, the trees are from the GW citadel wood. I find they look more fantasy then most out there and work well for this theme and also for autumn themes

Great painting Kage, and amazing job on your basing as well. I love a scenic base. I am in the slow process of cutting up cities of death bitz to use on my marines/harlequins bases. Can't wait to see the rest of this army complete.

Thanks very much, I find doing a scenic base can make a huge difference to how you view a model (and it also helps to remove focus from any dodgy painting that I've been too lazy to tidy).

Managed to do a little work on the model tonight, and also got distracted by the objective marker which is now finished. The base for the crimson hunter itself is now ready for the guardians, blossom and any other scenic pieces. One of the guardians has its base coat for the green while the white and detail will be next on the other guardian. In the picture I have just added a wash.

My next update will likely be Saturday as I have a free weekend for hobby!

Thanks for the feedback, its nice to receive comments.

Managed to finish the base today. Decided on just the one guardian on the base as I didn't want it to be too crowded. The plan is to start the actual model itself, and of course I will post pictures of WiP.

Finished work early today so got some painting down on the Crimson Hunter. Base coats are now on the models and the pilot is almost finished. Next to add a little shading and get the gems done. Also managed to pop into the store to grab the next unit for the army. Decided to get some (large) infantry done. These new plastic wraithguard are so much bigger than the old metal ones, and lots of spare bits. Aim is to get the Crimson Hunter finished by the end of the week, and then start building the Wraiths.

The Crimson Hunter is finished. Happy it now being done but not too sure on the end result. It was a nice model to work on, really smooth surfaces, which meant the transfers were easy to put on. Next up will be the Wraithguard, which I am really looking forward to working on, purely as the will be a unit rather than a single large figure.

Managed to find a few hours this week to stick the wraithguard together and also start modelling up some bases. Need to get these primed and then the painting will start. As you can see in the pics many of the pieces are currently stuck together by blu-tac for ease of painting. Also used a few spare bits to model a second objective marker.
