A (not so)recent post on the army list page gave me a cool idea. What is the best list you can come up with for 250 points with the standard CAD? No other restrictions, just need 1HQ and 2 Troops. Anything else you can fit is cool. This is the first thing off the top of my head:\

Chaos Space Marines 250 points;

Dark Apostle: SoC, Bolt Pistol, Power Maul, VoTLW, MoT - 120 points

Chaos Cultists: x10(w/champ), x10 Autoguns - 65 Points
Chaos Cultists: x10(w/champ), x10 Autoguns - 65 Points




What can you come up with?

Go with a Tervigon over Flyrant (too expensive) and follow CrownAxe idea, just make a unit each turn.

The flyrant could work. You would just need to swap a pair of devourers for a pair of deathspitters.

At this points level, I think I'd try to get them Plasma rather than Fusion guns. You're really not likely to see any AV13/14, so I'd take the extra shott at the expense of a Fire Warrior or two.

Fair comment. They are actually the same price so it's an easy switch. Or go for Missile Pods which are the same price and allow you to do Gunline.

Canoness with 35 pts in wargear, perhaps a Plasma pistol and power weapon?

2X Battle Sister squads of five each with flamer and melta gun

The cheapest codex Astra Militarum army is 180 points - CCS and two vet squads. With just 70 points left you have two options. You can buy a moderate quantity of guns for your units or you can splurge on a shooty vehicle such as a wyvern and just use your vets to occupy space.

250 is a little small to expect folks to be able to run two Troops units, you get so little flexibility when most armies are forced to take 220ish points minimum tax to play a CAD.

(If you tossed it open to other Battle-Forged lists with no CAD I'd submit the Inquisitor and a small band of ground troops radioing desperately for their Valkyrie)

I think I'd get:

CCS, Heavy Bolter: 70

Veterans, Carapace, HB, Flamer: 90
Veterans, Carapace, HB, Flamer: 90

At this points level, the HB might actually be decent (there's a lot of Infantry around), but if not it could easily be traded for an Autocannon.

Warboss - Bike, BP, DLS, PK - 140 pts
Grots - 35 pts
Grots - 35 pts
Kopta - 30 pts

Boss goes with kopta for a scoutmove, they're 5 t6 wounds and 5 s10 ap2 attacks on the charge with rerolling to-hits/misses. Boss tanks with his 3+ rerollable cover or 4+ rerollable armor save. Can exchanvge a BP for something else like a 6+ fnp or squig for one of the grot squads.

Another list could be:

HQ mek - 15 pts
Grots - 35 pts
Grots - 35 pts
3 lobbas with ammo runts - 57-63 pts
Deff dread with some stuff.

Interesting challenge. I'll give it a go -

Tau:

Cadre Fireblade 60pts

Drone sentry turret team w/ twinlinked Missile Launcher 40pts

Drone sentry turret team w/ twinlinked Missile Launcher 40pts

Sniper Drone team. 1 Marksman, 6 drones. 103pts

The fireblade will join the sniper drone team and increase their damage versus infantry.

I can't attest as to the efficacy of this army, considering it is of exceedingly low model count. It's probably gak but I could have some fun with it

That was kinda the idea. It really tests creativity and tactics. With so many powerful lists (for the points) I am rather impressed. Anyone want to take a shot at a CSM list?
