I thought it was good. It messed with my head a little, though. What future did they really have, after going through what they did? Excellent job representing that aspect.

That was awesome! Perhaps a bit too much swearing for my tastes, but as a proof of concept that something like this could work it was great!

I've always thought this idea would be a really cool one. A super-elite team of highly-trained warriors with very high-tech gear defending the world from alien and mystical threats and you've got something awesome, it's just a shame they made it a kid's show. We need blood, not sparks, we need decent dialogue, not stunted one-liners. We need that, basically.

In other words, get the team behind The Dark Knight trilogy on Power Rangers...

Just watched it. Loved it. This is the Power Rangers I needed when I was 8!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

A shame if it does go, as I'm not sure what grounds they're demanding it be taken down on. No copyrighted material is being reproduced, no money is being made, is this just a case of legal bullying by big person to little person?

And the creator quoted in the article is right, it's Power Rangers that is actually good for once.

Yes, BUT if your kid is searching the Internet for Power Rangers do you really want them finding boobies, drug use & people being shot in the head? (FYI OP link is censored version).

Honestly, I think it would make sense as a movie. All the people that loved Power Rangers as kids when it was first around are now old enough to watch and love it like this, so they already have a captive audience. I think I'd rather it be styled after the Dark Knight than something like Watchmen (like that version was), but the point is that as a concept, it lends itself really well to a very dark story if anyone had the guts to push it in that direction.

That is a fair point, I guess. It's just a shame that something that is very well put together, very entertaining and clearly had a lot of effort behind it gets taken down. I can see where you are coming from, though.

Hey, if I was running Saban, I'd be hiring this guy to make me this movie Full length, some more fight scenes and little bit more tension (and zords of course)

As someone who watched the original AND watches the newer seasons(as well as Super Sentai), I didn't like this. I actually don't want a gritty reboot of the franchise(I'm so freaking tired of them) and it really doesn't work for Power Rangers, which actually has a history of some pretty dark episodes in the mid seasons(Psycho Rangers, Kendrix's death in Lost Galaxy, etc.). This is more pandering to older fans who like gritty dark reboot because ADULT than remaining true to the point of the series(inspiring kids with positive role models).

In addition, Saban's take down order has a lot to do with the fact that they're going to start advertising for the new PR movie soon.

What's with American companies acquiring rights to a show they didn't even really make, or rather made with bits and pieces of other shows and then being jerks with the property.

Actually, lots of the seasons have very little Sentai scenes in comparison to new footage once you get past MMPR Season 1. Most of the MMPR Season 2 "Zyu2" footage was made exclusively for use in Power Rangers, even the Zord fights are mash ups of the Zyu2 and DaiRanger footage, hence the disconnect between the Thunder Zords and the Monsters. Plus the 2(soon to be 3 in 2016 with the Saban/Lionsgate film) theatrical films that use 0% of Sentai footage. Power Rangers as a franchise is very much something that Saban "really made".

Also, Saban is a joint US/Israeli company(that shoots the show in New Zealand).

Yeah. I'm so tired of dark/gritty/whatever everything. The charm of this stuff is how bright, high-energy and cheesy it all is.

As someone who kinda wants to see a darker Power Rangers, I didn't like it.

Power Rangers was a lot darker than people give it credit for (ZED HAD NO SKIN AND HIS BRAIN WAS SHOWING), but this was just too.... confused. At first I thought they were going for a more realistic approach in the opening scenes, which wouldn't have been bad. Then they had Zach fighting in a goofy Power Rangers style, then they went back to a more realistic sword/knife fight.

The design was really cool, though I think they could have done a bit better with the suits (Zachs in particular looked super bulky compared to what he was shown outside of it).

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

Yeah, and remember that time that Zordon had the Red In Space Ranger MURDER him so his power would sent out a wave that would wipe every non-human(because the human ones still had some good in them like Rita and Zedd's love for each other) villain out of existence?

Honestly, my knowledge of the PR is about the five VHS movies we have and then what little I remember from my childhood. I remember Zed being metal as all hell though. And the episodes being formulaic as heck too.

Yeah, that's an issue over all for Monster of the Week shows.

Frankly, no one really remembers/watched beyond Seasons 2-3 except the diehards. Hell, you can see that in this by them mentioning Rocky(the 2nd Red) and the Machine Empire, but then confusing Kat(the blonde 2nd Pink that was actually in the machine empire season) and Kim.

I just can't believe Trini got no screen time. She was one of my first crushes and my favorite ranger.

But by the time the machine empire came, Tommy was a Red Ranger, the Blue ranger was an 8 year old and TO MUCH PINK ENERGY
And Rita, Bulk and Skull became good guys in the end.

The 8 year old(Turbo) was the season after the Machine Empire(Zeo).

Yes, Tommy was Zeo Red. Everyone but he and Billy of the original 6 had been replaced by then(Yellow twice!), though Billy was support staff rather than a Ranger in Zeo, with Rocky moving from Red to Blue.

So if that's the Machine Empire they're supposed to be fighting at the very beginning, it's not even the right costumes much less being the right team. Course, considering that the creator of it can't decide whether it's supposed to be a parody making fun of gritty reboots or his attempt at "making Power Rangers good"(he keeps changing his mind in each interview), I highly doubt he really knows or cares that much about the franchise.

I loved it, despite some over acting and cheesy fight scenes.

The kid in me wants this to be a thing, the adult realizes it will never happen/be done effectively.

I am not familiar with the original material, and I do not understand half of what they are saying (I need more practice with English). I have no idea what this was about!

"Our fantasy settings are grim and dark, but that is not a reflection of who we are or how we feel the real world should be. [...] We will continue to diversify the cast of characters we portray [...] so everyone can find representation and heroes they can relate to. My hearing is so bad that I couldn't make out half the dialogue, so I'm right there with you. Though I do follow the basic premise.

This was kind of fun, but mostly it was disappointing. I think it shows pretty clearly the problem when people think ‘dark and gritty’ means you have actual mature, adult material.

‘Dark and gritty’ will have the heroes suffer, but it will be a very melodramatic kind of suffering – this short had people with scars and robot legs, and newlywed couples getting shot up in their truck. And ‘dark and gritty’ will give the heroes flaws, but the flaws will again be very melodramatic – drug use and one night stands, or switching to the evil side.

I’m not saying that stuff like that can’t be good, but it should know what it is. You can just add gore and melodrama and end with great stuff – pretty much the whole of John Woo’s Hong Kong filmography. But this Power Rangers thing didn’t seem to be happy with being a quick and satisfying piece of violence, it seemed to be looking for some kind of actual payoff. For that you need a lot more than cocaine and ultraviolence.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.
