Well here we go...
This is my finished entry: Hermes in Terminator Armor - aka THE HERMINATOR
A little background:
This guy is in honor of my mother's hamster, Hermes. One of the nicknames I gave him was "The Herminator," which inspired me to make a little terminator up to remember him by when he's gone.
My mom originally bought Hermes for me, but she took care of him when I couldn't take him up to college with me one year (my roommates didn't want a pet in the apartment). By the time I came home for Christmas they were official hamster bros.
I painted him up as an Ultramarine, the most genetically pure chapter. Why?
Well, while Hermes is a seriously beautiful pet store hamster, he seems a little inbred. He got his name from his obsession with running around in circles. My mom usually takes him out of his cage and puts him on the floor, where he spends the evening running in circles in his favorite spots in the house. He's otherwise a totally healthy hamster, he's just a little... off in the head.
I sculpted the head and wings on his feet in greenstuff. The spoiler below shows the head sculpting process. (Warning: blurry pictures ahead)
Spoiler:
I stuck a ball of greenstuff onto piece of paper clip, let it dry, then made the basic proportions of a hamster face.
I had my significant other (who is WAY better at casting than I am) make some resin copies in case I screwed up... or wanted to make more hamster marines and have an entire hamster army.
I sculpted the hamster on one of the resin copies. This took a good week of adding a little bit of greenstuff at a time to get the head to this point. I had at least ten browser tabs with hamster pictures open at all times during that week. Best. week. evar.
I covered the entire hamster head in a thin layer of greenstuff and poked it a bunch with a homemade sculpting tool (a sewing needle in a pin vice) to get the fur texture. When it was dry I primed and painted the head still on the pin. I cut it off the paper clip and super glued it to the body was when both were done.

Spoiler:
I guess I'm kind of happy with it, kind of rushed at the end. The lack of weathering was a conscious choice in the end, likely to be reflected in the next comp's entry: Fistius Fistgar.
I really need to go back in and fix or remove the JUSTICE from his leg, and I need to revisit the eye lenses and a couple of the other little bits that should look glassy. But no time. This is good enough for table top so I can consider him done, I'm usually too shakey-handed after work to do such detail stuff and the weekend is past the limit so.. yeah, done
Come on! That's awesome, be proud of a brilliant job. You and the other guys who have painted Dreads in this competition have made me want to run out and buy one (I don't have one yet :( ).

Sublimy brilliant.

They would be awesome
My pitiful two marines will be posted tomorrow when I've taken better photos. Finished them at 03:34 - I am gonna suffer tomorrow, but it was worth it. My marines may be basic and of a fair quality, but I'm proud of 'em - first thing I've finishhed since I returned to the hobby a month ago!

My final submission below. Probably should adjust the white balance a bit more, but my camera battery died. Overall I'm happy with the result, which was inspired by LutherMax's DC.

Cheers TP. Nearly finished. Am way happy with how it's looking. There's some awesome stuff coming up. Loving those camo cloaks - great job reunion; cracking idea!
I think that's the OP up to date! Cool stuff everyone!
This ends midnight tonight, if anyone desperately needs a few more hours after that then just let me know! Like I said a page back, I won't put the voting thread up until tomorrow afternoon, so there's a bit of overlap, and I won't penalise anyone for being just a tad late!

Oh... wow! Januine, I knew you were doing DW termies, but that base/diorama came out of nowhere! It's awesome! I love the posters, and the basing scheme.
One minor gripe; the brickwork/decking on the bases doesn't line up with the terrain piece. But it's not enough to take away from the awesomeness of it!
Yeah, the barrels were drooping a lot worse than that. It was a valuable lesson as I found out that particular clear resin does not do well for thin spindly parts as it stays a little flexible. I learned a fair amount in this little experiment, so they were a success at least in that regard. I do like how the cloaks turned out, though the pictures hardly do them justice. If I had a turntable and could record a video of it moving through the various angles you could see just how neat the effect came out.
You say that I am crazy. I say that you are right!

They do look cool, even in the still shots. You could always cut the cast rifles off and replace them with the original plastics. Or if making more, just cast the torsos and use the stock parts for the rest of the mini.

*FINISHED ENTRY*
Hey everyone, having seen the final pieces being posted over the last few days I am feeling somewhat inadequate. I had set off to paint a dramatic Ravenwing Command Squad this month, but life got in the way. I wanted to enter for motivational reasons, which is why I converted to painting these two tactical Dark Angels marines. I needed to paint them to complete a 10 man squad, so what better choice - straightforward, achievable, necessary anyway and most importantly met the brief - Space Marine. I hope that when viewing the figures you view them not as a competition winning entry, but instead as my attempt to do the core skills well. If I can do that, I'll be happy. Now look at these brave battle brothers for no longer than is necessary and then go and view all of the other incredible entries.

In the Warp, getting trolled by Tactical_Spam, AKA TZEENTCH INCARNATE
Those are some fine looking Dark Angels
Don't let the other entries get you down, join the 'we'll show em next time' club instead! (note: Tzeentch worship may or may not be mandatory. I tried reading the club rules again and the paper turned into a frog, so I'm not really sure.)

'Random' is actually a pretty good description of the Loyalists, considering how many 'Unknown Founding' Chapters there are...
So who are you again?
- The Blood Ravens, sir.
I don't remember you getting founded. Are you sure you're Loyalists?
- Quite sure, sir. To be honest, I don't even know when we were founded, and I'm the Chapter Master.
Oh well. Here's a sticker of approval, have fun killing random heretics!
Also, this drink tastes kind of.... weird......

*Raises hand* I officially yield on not getting it finished, so I just need to print a few bits out to show what would have been on the base, and not use neon pieces of lego. Might over-run a little bit.

I really like how dark the green came out. They are the dark angels after all! The highlighting really makes 'em pop too.
Overall there are tons of outstanding submissions. How many votes do we get?

As as I know, the Dakka Poll options only allow 1 vote or unlimited, otherwise I would certainly consider 3 or so votes per person. As it is, I guess it's just one! Be picky!
I think we have about 25 entries, I think we'll be able to fit all that in 1 poll, if not then I'll split it in half in order of entry and the top 5 from each go through.
