Blood-Drenched Death Company Marine
Little Rock, Arkansas
|
Got curious and looked around on the net to see if anyone had ever totaled the points for the entire listed chapter of BA. Couldn't find it, so I did it myself.
Obviously I don't have points for most of the fleet ships, and, oddly, the BA armory does not list a number of drop pods, rhinos, razorbacks, land speeders, or bikes, so there aren't any in the chapter total. Similarly, there is no count for death company, (probably due to wild fluctuation,) and no set amount of wargear, so I totaled the points without any non-default wargear. I also assumed a command squad for each captain.
The Blood Angels have a total of 56145 points in their chapter, again without any wargear, or several of the dedicated transports and fast attack vehicles that don't have listed numbers.
If you include the thunderhawk gunships and transports, the total goes to 82815.
Feel free to post other chapters if you can run the points for it!

That seems a lot. I've just done the numbers for a single Codex: Space Marines battle company and come to 2170pts. Thats for...
-Captain
-Command Squad w/Champion, Apothecary, Standard, 2x Vets, Razorback
-Chaplain
-6x 10 man Tac Squads w/Rhino
-2x 10 man Assault Squads
-2x 10 man Devastator squads w/ 4x missile launchers

You forgot the dreads. Each company has two to four. And while the reserve companies will be roughly the same as a battle company, the 1st is going to be a lot more. The chapter moter pool is also a big chunk of points.

2370pts with 2 standard dreadnoughts.
I considered the 1st company being more but thought the scout company might balance it out. On second thought the 1st company go to war in Land Raiders as opposed to Rhinos which will add a lot.
I'm gonna estimate its about 25,000pts for just the 10 companies of a chapter.

Plus the scout company has no limit (how many scouts would it take to make 100 marines?) and devestators need transports.

Figuring on ten thousand or so points of tanks and Apothecaries in the Armoury and the Emperor only knows how many Storm Eagles, Stormravens, Storm Talons, and Thunderhawks the Fleet's got to contribute we're already at forty to fifty thousand, the Reclusiam and the Librarium could contribute six to eight thousand more points, then there's the Honour Guard and any formations not yet described...
I could see fifty to sixty thousand points for an average run-of-the-mill Space Marine Chapter Automatically Appended Next Post: (As to the Fleet most Chapters have two or three Battle Barges and somewhere in the neighborhood of ten Strike Cruisers, and who knows how many frigates; they'd make a 1,500pt BFG fleet easy)

The Blood Angels Sanguinary Priests, Chaplains, Librarians(and named ones of course), Sanguinary Guard, and Dante are 6915 points without any add ons. So 56145 total is entirely reasonable. If you add tech marines and the armory, those alone are 28375 without any add ones to the bases.
Sooooo....35,290 for the Blood Angels before you even get into the actual companies.

They don't list any set amount of optional wargear or the number of rhinos, razorbacks, and drop pods.
If we assume every tac squad has a rhino, that's another 1980. Then if we toss in a razorback for every dev squad, that's 1170. Follow up with say, a drop pod for every command squad, and there's another 350. So 3600 feasible points in unwritten numbers of small transports. (I'm assuming the dreads will be taking some of the million stormravens that the chapter has.) getting into random wargear is tricky. For one thing, you could take that sanguine wing formation to get free power weapons and combi weapons on 3 squads of the vets. You could assume like, 15 points average per character or something, which I think would be in the mid 2500's what with the 100 sergeants and the other command staff. And then vehicle upgrades...and then the missing death company... It's very dizzying, so I decided to stick to what was written.
On a side note, I just got a last few sanguinary guard completing my collection, aka I have the full 30 for the chapter.

The Marine Standing Behind Marneus Calgar

For fun, I just went through the picture of the Ultramarine’s 2nd Company from pages 24-25 of the codex. As pictured, they total up to 2,575 points. This assumes no hidden upgrades, and no transports. 6 of the sergeants are not wearing helmets, and could be veterans. Those with helmets lack the white stripe that would denote this status.
If we add rhinos for the tacs and devs, and a HB razor for the command squad, we hit 2,910. That’s with no vehicle upgrades.
It’s also not considering that a full strength battle company should have another dread. The apocolyse formation requires 3. We’ll ignore the old 3rd ed fluff saying a full company has 4. But 2 is defiantly low.
Going back and looking at a raw squad total (basic captain, no upgrades, no guns) a company with two dreads costs 1940. 635 points of wargear/upgrades being issued to the company. Some of that is “mandatory” like the special members of the command squad, and you’d never run dev squads with just bolters. But it does help set a benchmark for how much to budget on upgrades when doing math for chapter points.
