Subject: Farewell to Empire-Spaceport table page 50
Honestly some moderately sized platforms for either the spacecraft or the boxes to go on top of wouldn't be amiss here.
Then you could definitely do some portable walkways between them. I have a giant three piece crane that raises and lowers (and breaks into four pieces for storage) for moving the cargo.
To review Daiso is a chain of 100 yen (~$1) shops across Japan which sometimes have a line of robot display bases and other miniatures items in their home decor (not toy) section. I also found the mecha line in a chain of hobby shops called Volks. And yes, everything here was 100 yen.
They also have shops in the US and Hong Kong, maybe more that I just don't know off the top of my head.
Not seen any of this in their US stores or online but who knows.
First off some nice and easy pipes, sold in sets of 3. 2 are attached, the 3rd can be removed (good for painting!). Aobut 2" tall, 3 1/2" long. Nice scatter terrain for any industrial table.
Then some tin shipping containers and a railroad flatbed for them. So 300 yen. The tins open so you can put, I dunno, an objective marker in there.
About 10"x3" tall.
I wasn't too impressed with these girder/gantry sets, but they're not terrible either. And you get 3 girders plus clips for 100 yen, so again, no great loss.
But the real winners are these connectable display bases, roughly 7"x4"x4" and they assemble and connect without glue. The back are not detailed but you can always put two of them back to back.
They stack and connect for more elaborate displays, and the front framework is optional. You could put a whole action figure collection on these for under $10. I got like ten of them.
The cranes on these are also 100 yen, and come with metal chains made of real metal hot from the forge.
The engineering on these (except for the girders) is superb, everything goes together with no glue and comes apart for storage. Great, great buys, I cannot recommend enough.
I mean if you happen to be in Japan.

Those are nice finds, I think those girders look super useful.
I tried to find them on Daiso's online store earlier today, but it looks like what they offer online is limited.

Got the Daiso stands ready for action. I noted a few pages up that my space port needed more vertical elements, well here's two rockets and a gantry for them.
The main problem with the Daiso stands (and other similar Gundam stands) is they're not detailed on the back so they should either be against a table edge or back to back.
Fluff
The Saturn-Pattern heavy lifter is an ancient and simple design, capable of lifting tons of cargo directly into orbit. With no in-atmosphere flight capabilities it is beloved by some administrators for its safe and predictable capabilities unlike shuttles which can reach other points on a planet and evade surveillance. However they fell out of favor during the Poccnr-Amepnka War when heavy lifters were fitted with overloaded fission reactors that detonated over the rivals' hive cities. Nonetheless Saturn-Pattern heavy lifters are still found in backwater space ports through the fringe worlds.
Some progress on the 2025 flying circus. It's been trying to make 40k takes on some real world planes and different color schemes for each one.
WIP of course.
This month's progress
I always liked the F-16 Falcon, a lightweight single engine fighter. A Chevy built to contrast with the Cadillac of the F-15 Eagle. So here's my take.
This one is a bit of a stretch, I can buy the Dakkajet as a pre-looted Imperial plane but this is clearly an Eldar jet. Let's just assume it was captures and sanctified by an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor OK? Just don't look too closely at the pilots ears.
And finally someone thought my A-10 should have been a Cobra Rattler, so here it is.
Play us out 80s Hasbro ad!
And other 80s Hasbro ad!
It's the wickedest weapon yet you know!
The Rattler's gonna get GI Joe!
I think I've pushed the Dakka Jet as far as it can go, maybe I can get a plausible F-15 out of it but that's about it.
But seeing as it is October maybe I can make something a bit... spooky.
JB wrote: That is an iconic squadron. Do you store them on a shelf with some pilots and ground crew?
One of the odd things about this hobby is as I was working on the Eldar jet I started to wonder what the story might be. An Eldar jet recovered by the Ordo Xenos, retooled to use Imperial weapons and sent back out to fight. Maybe with a pilot who's a bit thinner and taller than some would like. And don't look too close at his ears!
Which raises the question of what Inquisitor would have a retinue of jets? Well an Air Inquisitor of course! One who specializes in sky-bound heresy such as space to ground smuggling and illicit aircraft. So that will have to be an upcoming conversion.

So I pulled the trigger on the $20 1/72 Tomcat and I am very happy with it!
Some long overdue painting for the long weekend as I got around to the Battlezone Fronteris stuff I've had around since Covid.
The radar dish and landing pad are OK but I cannot say enough good things about the stock walls and hab bunkers. The walls are just on piece and line up nicely, they're a bit small and short (barely over a 28mm model's head) but for makeshift walls for a settlement in the middle of nowhere, they do the job.
As as single part models they're nearly indestructible!
The hab bunkers aren't quite as good, they have a lot of odd details on the outside but the walls fit together as dove tails and except for the roofs are also almost indestructible.
I got 4 sets of the stockade (they're pretty cheap on ebay)
Going for maximum length I got over nine feet of walls! 116", 290cm+
The landing pad, not so nice, the plastic might be off or something, but plastic cement does not the job, and it's just sort of bland.
And I was able to get it all back in the box with just a bit of bulging! So points for storage and transport.
There's very very little in the way of skulls and eagles so this terrain is somewhat setting-agnostic if that's important to you. Just good practical stuff for our of the way settlements.

Having a bit of an issue with the gunship, the two cargo crates just do not want to stay glued together. I should be able to get it to hold together with some plastic rod supports but for now I'm taking a break on it and going to the other spooky season project!
The graves were mounted in putty - dirt cheap plumbers epoxy purchased locally in India for like a tenth of green stuff - and the crosses were covered with an evil eye charm from the arts and crafts store, which I figure makes for a nice non-nondenominational symbol.
Tomorrow spray paint and dry brush and see how it all looks.
Happy spooky season.

Not I just need to do 50 Mantic Zombies to go with it. No. Not the 50 Mantic Zombies I did last year, 50 MORE! Mantic Zombies so I can have an even 100.

Primed 50 Mantic zombies, so now I have 100 of them.
And then we have Skyquisitor Jager (Airquisitor?) and his loyal companion Skydancer who for some odd reason never takes his helmet off. More on them later.

They said it couldn't be done, they said it shouldn't be done, they said please for the love of mercy don't do it!
But I did.
I've mentioned before how the gaming community could use nesting terrain, it seems it would be simple to make some vac-formed plastic bunkers or towers or hills that can stack for storage. And on a trip to Ikea this week I decided I had to take matters into my own hands.
So the $10 Ikea terrain project!
Ikea mixing bowls and sorting baskets. Bowls were about a $1 each, baskets a quarter.
After a simple spray paint job. I tired greebling them with some plastic card but superglue would not hold, even after roughing the bowl up with a file. I might add some removable toppers to the domes to give them some tech.
The goal here is easy, acceptable, practical, indestructible and easy to store.
I picked up some more today and I think I could have a credible table with $10 of this stuff.
I know they need more on the paint side, have to give it some thought. Maybe crack one or two open with a saw for ruins.
