Subject: Deadzone: Infestation from Mantic Games - Ends 4/6/2015 3 Days left!
That marauder is far to close to GW's Orks. I love the military professional look of the Marauders and not the rag tag bolted together look of GW's Orks which this piece of concept art could be mistaken for. Well here's hoping they change the design on this one!

So set a reminder for 8 hours from ks close and enjoy your weekend...
Maybe Mantic should stop teasing them. They know we want them, but I think they just waited to long. I bet we'll be within 60 hours before we break this 10k goal, and if they broke out the Steel Warriors with a decent deal (15 for $20-25) we'd have it accomplished in the same time frame.
There are also no new add-ons other then an $8 piece that's given to all the spendy backers for free that belongs to the least popular faction at this time. Just sloppy. Why wait on the "freebie" model for Quarantine. You got 300 EBs to fill up and you aren't even trying Mantic. It's like they gotten arrogant after the Dungeon saga campaign and forgot about the end rush disaster that was DBX.

Yes, they could blow it up, but I still think they're trying to limit it. This is supposed to be the small dz ks.

That BOW video has some horrible ads that happen every 30 seconds during the army explanation parts and are about twice as loud as the rest of the video with an annoying announcer voice. I sincerely hope that was just a trial phase they went through over a year ago when they filmed that and not an indicator of what is to come.

I just hope they offer some kind of bundle on those dwarfs... I want a bunch but at 5 for $10 it just feels like I should wait for the Warpath kickstarter where there are likely to be zombie-tier hard plastic deals all over the place to fund armies. Guess we'll see, I can see myself picking up a crapload of those if the price is right.

Love the new Steel Warriors! They keep the sort-of Dwarf look, but clean it up! They may be a little short to be Stormtroopers, but I think they'd look great in a Clone-inspired scheme, clean white with coloured squad accents!

It's a pretty good bet that we'll be seeing all of the listed stretchgoals realized, even if this slows to a crawl for some reason. All of them are things Mantic will want in place to drive sales of the products in question (they aren't releasing jetbikes without those extra guns, period, and the spitter makes the expensive resin Veer-myn gun more saleable at retail as well), the forward observer would leave a very bad taste in everyone's mouth if it didn't happen, and the Forge Father sprue is pretty much a foregone conclusion now, unless there is a mass exodus at the end, because if it doesn't fund during the campaign, it will afterwards when people add things on during the Pledge Manager.
Looks to me like Mantic has considered their current course and the books and decided that the Forge Fathers really are the way they want to finish out this campaign. Unfortunately, this means Asterian hard plastic troops probably won't be happening until somewhere in the middle of the Warpath campaign, whenever that happens. I expect if the end rush carries us far beyond the FF that we'll get more specialists, maybe a bunch of individual metal Mercs, as they try to run out the time, rather than any more hard plastic sprues.
Anyway, that pretty much eliminates the tension and drama of this campaign's finale for me. On the plus side, I like everything that's coming, and I'm no longer worried about not getting to any of what's been listed. On the minus side, I really would have liked to see Mantic tackle another hard plastic sprue beyond the FF, funds and momentum permitting, and I don't see that happening. In part, I think it's because $25,000 probably doesn't cover the entire cost of a hard plastic sprue, which is why we get all these overpriced, inflated stretchgoals in between for metal characters and "expanding" sprues that have already been funded; basically we're socking away additional hidden funding for that "$25,000" Hard plastic stretch goal. If the reality of a full hard plastic troop sprue (or two, as may be necessary for some like the enforcers) is closer to $50,000, that would explain Mantic's hesitancy to take on any more beyond the Forge Fathers.
In the end, this all leaves me very pleased with my Lock Down pledge. It is strange how the economics of Mantic kickstarters work out. Mars Attacks, far from one of their most successful KS campaigns, ended up being one of their best deals ever. Deadzone Infestation will likely end up well short of Mars Attack's final total, but even if it doesn't rival the value for money of that KS campaign, it will still rank highly as an exceptionally good Mantic deal. I mean, for $215 I get a hard cover, a deluxe mat, a bunch of hard plastic troops, terrain, a few resin exclusives, and a bunch of other resin and metal figures, which even if you don't care for the materials, you know will be priced higher at retail (particularly the resin - the metals may be issued together in a discounted box like the last batch of metal Deadzone faction characters.)
The one thing that leaves me scratching my head about this endgame is that the Rebs leave this campaign with nothing, when they are the group that seem most in need of help. Even the overpowered Marauders get at least one new figure. The Rebs get access to one Merc that almost everyone else also gets access to. And, despite their popularity, the Sphyr make no appearance. Did the Marauders really need another commando unit - one that, in all likelihood, will look just like the others but with a jetpack - more than the Rebs would have benefitted from a Sphyr melee character? Yeah, I know the Rebs will get an upgrade in the revised rules (or people will stop buying them), but still.
The only downside of this campaign relative to previous ones - and it's potentially a big one - is paying for shipping, but Quarantine is estimated at $10 on the KS page, and we've been promised that Lock Down's shipping costs won't exceed Quarantine's. So we're still probably not looking at this going above $20 for shipping, as you can imagine the backlash / negative publicity for the next campaign if Mantic says, "oh, by the way, shipping will cost more than double our original estimate, sorry!" after this is all over, particularly as it plainly has not "exploded" beyond their wildest expectations. Yep, I think they'll likely have to absorb some of that cost themselves if that turns out to be the case, to keep shipping cost increases reasonable and invested backers happy (and willing to back again). So, say we pay $230 or so by campaign's end including shipping; I still don't see how this isn't one of Mantic's best deal's - possibly the best deal - ever. (Aside from subjective preferences, naturally. If you hate the Veer-myn, this campaign won't rate as highly for you regardless.)

Going off the Kings of War KS which this is slightly ahead of in funding terms (only just) it took $108k in it's last 3 days - $62k on the last day and DZ:I is broadly similar so I can see this topping out in the $375k - $400k range might be enough the sqeeze one further HIPS sprue in in that last $50k - $75k.
I'd be happy enough to see the Steel Warriors in at least but I agree that the Rebs haven't come out of this well (so far). At least this going to cost me far less than anticipated - money left for something else at least March KS madness is nearly over

I suspect the best way to have got a bigger initial pull would have been to do a variety of races HIPS basic troops with interim metal/resin heroes to bring as wide as possible a backer set in
then switch to the terrain which most of them to want
and leave the 'exciting' stuff like jetbikes to the end,
what they've done may be good as a foundation to warpath, but probably not really great for deadzone
