Instead of the more dynamic:

"Do I shoot that 12/12/10 transport, or go after those barrage guys in back, or go ahead and handle those sneaky snipers..."

One of those makes for a more fun game for both people, IMO.

This. I can understand why people spam (I've done 3 Flyrants at 1000 pts) but ever since switching to DE I find myself wanting to bring everything. I've only ever run 3 Venoms max and that's simply for DT, not to bring dakka

3 of a unit in a 1000-2000 points lsit doesnt sound like much spam to me. Unless it's a 300points model.

So, if someone takes 4 Imperial Knights at 1500pts (2 Paladins, 1 Errant, 1 Castigator), the current consensus is that they are spamming Knights, despite their list being battle forged and containing only a single duplicate?

I would consider it spam. I mean, if 90%+ points of your army consist of the same unit (or variation in that case), I think it's spamming. If I bring 4 landraider of all the sort (redeemer, crusader, whatever), thats still a landraider spam. Like I said earlier, it's not abusive or super OP or whatever, but it's still multiple version of the same unit. And most of the time, you need some trick to bring more than 3 of those unit because of the CAD. Like having 4+ Riptide, you need the FW model to fill Elite + Heavy slot. Or playing Ravenwing, bringing 2 HQ just to get 2 Blacknight squad, then bring 3 squad as your fast attack too. That's 5 squad of ravening blacknight. That's a spam.
