Wargods of Olympus is Crocodile Games ambitious project to offer a second gameline.
Themed around the classical Greek Gods and Mythology. I received some preview minis back in 2003 or 2004. In 2013 they restarted the whole endeavor and funded their successful Kickstarter.

I pledged high and have to say that my trust in Fitz and his crew was not misplaced, high quality miniatures as expected. The first I painted of the new minis are two of the equally huge and fantastic Automatons.

Taurandron (Minotaur, a huge 7cm big “mini”) and Khalkotaur (a mechanical Bull)

Great work

Just got mine from Croc Games and very impressed with the crispness and detail.

Crispness and detail is IMO a bit of a trademark of Croc Games.

They look amazing!

The only poorly painted miniature is the one that is not painted.

And more...
Burnt some midnight oil and finished Hephaestus in two days. 8)
(Do you also experience this? Some minis are on the table for years, while others are assembled and painted within hours or days?)

The Hephaestus miniature is a stunning work, fitting in style to the Automatons; consequently I painted him in a very similar way as the two Automatons. And being the god of metalwork I gave him a metal laurel...

The mini is highly detailed. The most impressive detail for me was the small battle scene on his right shoulder guard. Two warriors are fighting a centaur!

And a group shot:

Thanks folks, more to show soon.

I have finished 2 more automatons and working hard on Hekate.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Below some more Automatons, the Owl (Aurabubos) and Hound (Kynoton). Both are as nice as the other two Automatons and real treat to paint.

And the next God - Hekate
The goddess in Greek religion and mythology, most often shown holding two torches or a key and in later periods depicted in triple form. She was associated with dogs, light, the moon, magic, witchcraft, knowledge of herbs and poisonous plants, necromancy, and sorcery.

Colours associated with her: Black, orange, yellow-orange, and red-orange.
Gems and Metals: Sapphire, silver, gold, moonstone, black tourmaline, black onyx, hematite, smoky quartz and any stone that is dark or luminous.

The sculpt is reflecting the symbols of Hekate very nicely, you can really see that a lot of thought was put into the miniature. Gemstones, moon symbols and the staff is showing the triple woman form. Consequently I decided to use mostly dark colours and sapphire gem colours.

The mini is nearly as big as Hephaestus, nearly a head taller as any of the Amazon sculpts.

More pics as usual on my website: www.adpublishing.de/html/olympus.html

Two more Automatons, Two Hoplite Automatons. Again gorgeous miniatures that came with separate heads and choice of armament, either a spear or sword.

And a test of colours on the 1st Amazon. I wanted a coherent look with Hekate.

Very nice! You can imagine those automatons fighting in stop-gap animation style, like out of a Harryhausen movie.

Are there any plans for a hero (Jason) and his soldiers (argonauts)?

Dionysus and a Satyr from the Olympus range

The Crocodile miniature is again an incredible nice and faithful representation of Dionysus, the wine leafs, the goblet full of wine and the cheerful face bring him “to life”. I chose a lighter colour palette for him.

Dionysus, Hekate, Artemis and Hephaestus

The Crocodile Games miniature is again flawless, a very simple and elegant miniature, I tried hard to give the sculpt credit.

Pallas Athena joins the ranks of the Gods!

The Goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, mathematics, strength, war strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill in ancient Greek religion and mythology.
Athena is portrayed as a shrewd companion of heroes and is the patron goddess of heroic endeavor. She is the virgin patroness of Athens. The Athenians founded the Parthenon on the Acropolis of her namesake city, Athena Parthenos, in her honor.

The Crocodile miniature is again an incredible good representation of the goddess. Bearing the description above in mind I chose a limited colour palette for her, blue and white. The modern national colours of Greece.

Man, those are all very nice! Athena and the Minotaur are my faves. I gotta go watch Clash of the Titans or Jason and the Argonauts now!

Just an exercise in old gold.

It is an older Olympus sculpt. Since the recent Kickstarter provided me with a new one, I decided to use this one as a statue.

Some folks PMed me for the gold recipe; it is extremely simple:
1 - Undercoat Matt Black
2 - Spray Dupli Color Deco Matt Gold
3 - Apply a good wash of Citadel Agrax Earthshade
Done for gold. maybe some highlight, up to you

For aged gold apply a greenish pigment ( I bought one a couple of years ago in a Venice art supply shop) and fix it with MIG pigment fixer.

Theseus - King of Athens
Crocodile Games have again outdone themselves with this miniature!
The clean crisp casting, the incredible detail and the elegant lines makes it really a piece of beauty. As usual the miniature is full of mythological reference, just check the Owls that are sculpted on the sword hilt, the kneepads and the coins that are holding the cape on the detail shot below.

I chose a colour scheme similar to the Athena look since I am planning to use them together. I also wanted him to look a bit older and seasoned, therefore the greying hair.

Wargods Olympus arrived!

The Kickstarter wrapped up in June 2013. I received the rulebook 2 days ago (more or less 7 years later). The wait was worth every day! And I really mean it.

It is not only a book, it is a tome – a tome of knowledge on Greek mythology sprinkled with fantasy elements, a very solid and tested ruleset, a great section of painted miniatures (it is a miniature games after all) and so much more.
If you are only the slightest interested in Greek mythology or minis based on it, THIS is your book.

Here is what On Table Top said:
“Years in the making, this 350-page hardcover rulebook is lavishly illustrated by Des Hanley, Paul Jeacock, John Wigley, Piya Wannachaiwong, and Tony Hough, and features inspiring painted miniatures and scenery by some of the best hobbyists in the business. It includes a set of Command Counters for both Sparta and the Titans.
WarGods of Olympus is fully compatible and set in the same world as WarGods of Aegyptus. Yes, both games can be played together, pitting your warband of Greek hoplites against the Aegyptian Children of the Gods."

I especially loved the part of “features inspiring painted miniatures and scenery by some of the best hobbyists”. This seem to include me, since throughout the book some of my painted Olympus minis showed up! What can I say, I love the book and I am totally proud to have contributed in small way to it!
