So I'm planning to start Nomads and I dont know what to do. I was thinking of getting icestorm and splitting the cost 50/50 with a friend who wants Pan'O (we live two streets away from each other so ill probably end up with the scenery and rulebook) I'm happy to spend around £70 on infinity, so what should I do?

Do you want a cohesive looking army or are you okay with this:
Because that will affect recommendations, at least on my behalf.

The OI starter is the best way to start, so if you're interested in the models it has, then that's the way to go. It has a good mix of models to use.
However, if you're interested in something more specific like geckos or a sectorial, then grabbing one of those box set starters might be better.

Honestly?
I advise AGAINST the Corregidor starter at this point. If you want to expand Corregidor, you're better off buying a second generic Nomad starter. There's only two models in there which are not Corregidor anyways.
Since Stormlord said he wants it to be cohesive?
I would suggest the Alguaciles boxed set and any post-Corregidor starter blister/boxed set.

Don't get fooled by this "cohesive" talking ... Not worth it
YES if you put them right next to each other on a presentation shelf, there's a sizeable size difference, but on the tabletop? No ones cares nor sees it among the scenery and the cool action
I have the exact same thing with my Spetznas and SAS for instance. They both look awesome and that's all that really matters
"size uniformity" OCD is a waste of good models

I honestly like the OI recommended expansion (Tunguska Interventors box and an Iguana), problem of course is that nobody has the Iguana because it's so popular. Do you know how you want to play the army?

I want it to be long ranged with heavy firepower.
I've also heard that nomads are good at hacking, what does hacking actually do?

Hacking disables or co-opts enemy Heavy Infantry, TAGs, and hackers as well as supporting or inhibiting a number of other abilities (Airborne Deployment, for instance, can be disrupted with Hack Transport Aircraft or boosted with Controlled Jump) and protecting your troops against enemy hackers. You can't do actual damage to anything beyond other hackers, but you can turn games around by taking over their TAG and killing their army with it.
As to long-ranged Nomad armies the first models I'd suggest looking into are Intruders; they're MSV troopers with camo and can have HMGs, MULTI-snipers, or ADHL on a BS13 platform. Give them Marksmanship off a backfield hacker, deploy them with a good field of fire, and you've got a great sniper-duel unit.

Long Range and heavy fire power is limited buy SWC the same thing that limits SWC so you can't bring to much. But Nomads have some nice platforms for them. The Intruder is one of the best HMG/Sniper units in the game and a Sineater is a pain to face in ARO. But, we are masters of mind games and board control, with great midfield units.
As for Hacking and Nomad hacking at that it can do what is posted above but that just the N2 thinking. In N3 Hacking can boost REM with a +1B in ARO or give them the Marksmen skill. The Hacker can use it to hide as the enemy so can't be attacked or he can shut down someone MSV letting camo units hide form the MSV unit. They can push a unit in to it's own Order Group (this is evil to do to a order hunger model), and so much more now in N3.

Hacking is absolutely awesome now in N3, it's almost like a mini game of its own. I'm actually looking forward to playing against a Nomad player who will use all of the new toys!

I'm looking into the whole hacking side of things and I feel like I've just fallen down the rabbit hole...
Starts off with "maybe I should get a hacker to keep an eye on my Gecko".
It then progresses onto thinking about Iguanas, repeaters, trying to find stuff that can have Hacking Device Plus instead of the mountains of Assault Hacking Devices that seem to be as common as iPads.
Even now, I'm considering Smart Missile Launchers! Make this madness stop!
Please...

I'm still learning the rules, but... Aren't Intruders MI and isn't Assisted Fire limited to REMs only?

Your right it is only REMs that can get Assisted Fire and don't worry about being new right new, everyone is still learning the rules or unlearning their N2 mindset.

I extended my O:I nomad force with the corrigador sectorial starter. The size difference doesnt bother me but one major drawback of this starter is that the 6 models are all combi rifles.
Ive been proxying the grenzer sniper as an intruder sniper and plan to buy the wildcat spitfire and rocket blisters to make a 5man wildcat fireteam.

That's a problem with the Japanese sectorial as well actually, if you want to use all of the miniatures from the starter set you end up struggling to get close to your SWC limit!

I just started Infinity too, painted up the Corregidor box only to find there's a shift in scale. So what models are current if you want a cohesive force?
I'm guessing the Nomad's starter, Iguana, gecko and upcoming Alguacils. Anything else? Do they plan to update the whole line?

Hello.
Allow me to try to help you here.
Nomads
──────────────────────────────────────────────────
Group 1 10 0 0
MOBILE BRIGADA MULTI Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Pistol, Knife. ( 39)
GRENZER MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Breaker Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 32)
SPEKTR (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. ( 32)
REVEREND HEALER Combi Rifle, Nanopulser / Pistol, EXP CCW. ( 33)
INTERVENTOR Lieutenant (Hacking Device Plus) Combi Rifle, 1 FastPanda / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 27)
INTERVENTOR Hacker (Hacking Device Plus) Boarding Shotgun, 1 FastPanda / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 26)
IGUANA HMG, Heavy Flamethrower / . (2 | 71)
ALGUACIL (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. ( 12)
ALGUACIL (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. ( 12)
ALGUACIL (Forward Observer, Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. ( 12)
4.5 SWC | 296 Points
Open with Army 5
So, What is this?
It is obviously the expanded Icestorm list.
Get the Nomads miniatures from the Operation Icestorm Boxed set.
Add the Interventors
Add the Iguana
And all these miniatures are recent, not from seven years ago, wich means they will have same quality and size.

I main MO, haven't done a lot with hacking yet (may change if my Custodiers ever ship...). Intruders are indeed MI, don't think I said they weren't, but yes, Assisted Fire is REM-only and doesn't help, sorry.
Intruders remain awesome even without it, though.

I was just checking prices and if someone is able to split an icestorm set the price for the expanded Nomad list is about 128$ US Dollars.
10 Units, 13 miniatures.
Cool IMHO.

As a proud Citizen of Bakunin, I completely disagree that you cannot hurt every model with just hacking.
With a Hacking Device+, you are able to Hack the location of a model (Forward Observer) and send the coordinates to a Guided Missile Launcher (Vertigo Zond) which will rain missiles from ANYWHERE ON THE MAP until the target has been... pacified.
It feels like a completely different game, when you are setting up mines and repeaters around the map. Like it turns the game into a chess match, where you can win every fight without ever directly engaging.
|
6+ = 6/36 | Reroll 1s = 7/36 | Reroll Misses = 11/36 ||||||| 5+ = 12/36 | Reroll 1s 14/36 | Reroll Misses = 20/36 ||||||| 4+ = 18/36 | Reroll 1s 21/36 | Reroll Misses = 27/36
3+ = 24/36 | Reroll 1s 28/36 | Reroll Misses = 32/36 ||||||| 2+ = 30/36 | Reroll 1s 35/36 ||||||| Highest of 2d6 = 4.47 |

Remember you can use 'spotlight' as well with just the basic hacking device.
And, do stuff like disguise the hacker so opponents have to make a discover roll before they can be shot at.
Actually, there is quite a lot of cool stuff! I have to say I love the new hacking rules, for me its a whole new dimension to the game, almost makes me think back to the psychic rules in second edition 40k, where you would have these duels going on in the middle of the match in the background of the fighting.
It's unlikely you can win a game just because you have hacking domination, but it certainly makes things a hell of a lot easier if you do.
