Zimerman has just made his first public statement since the Trayvon Martin court case, and who does he blame?

In his first public comments since the U.S. Department of Justice announced it would not prosecute him for violating Trayvon Martin's civil rights, George Zimmerman says he was victimized by President Obama.

George Zimmerman admitted to killing a 17-year-old boy in Sanford in what may have been self-defense. After his trial during the summer of 2013, Zimmerman was found not guilty in the teen's death and walked away from the Seminole County Courthouse a free man.
The president should never have allowed the DOJ investigation and is guilty of ramping up racial tension when he said, "If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon," Zimmerman said.

Zimmerman is the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old, in Sanford on Feb. 26, 2012, setting off civil rights demonstrations across the country and beyond.

A Seminole County jury acquitted Zimmerman of manslaughter in 2013.

Zimmerman went into hiding after the shooting and still tightly guards his privacy.

He has rejected most media requests for an interview but on March 8 video-recorded an interview with his Tampa divorce lawyer, Howard Iken of Ayo and Iken PLC.

In it, he faulted the media for portraying him as a racist and the criminal justice system for bringing him to trial but saved his harshest criticism for Obama, whom he accused of trying to prosecute "an innocent American."

"For him to make incendiary comments as he did and direct the Department of Justice to pursue a baseless prosecution, he by far over-stretched, over-reached," Zimmerman said.

The president, whom he referred to as "Barack Hussein Obama," should have told the public, " 'Let's not rush to judgment,' " Zimmerman said.

On Feb. 24, the Department of Justice announced that it would file no charges against Zimmerman and was closing its three-year-old investigation.

According to Iken, federal authorities have not returned to Zimmerman the Kel-Tec 9mm semiautomatic pistol that he used to kill Trayvon.

Iken interviewed Zimmerman in Orlando.

"Do you have a clean conscience at this point?" the lawyer asked about the shooting.

"Yes, sir."

"Do you wish (it) … had turned out differently?"

"I believe that the American judicial system failed in the sense that I should not even (have) gone to trial, but I do believe that the jury process succeeded," Zimmerman said.

He said he's convinced there's nothing he could have done differently that would have allowed both him and Trayvon to survive their confrontation that night.

"In all fairness, you cannot as a human feel guilty for living, for surviving," he said.

"Are you the same person right now that you were five years ago?" Iken asked.

"Absolutely not," Zimmerman said. "I have to have my guard up. … I still believe that people are truly good at heart, as Anne Frank has said, and I will put myself in any position to help another human in any way I can."

Zimmerman is an donkey-cave that should have done what the police told him to do.

Presumably he's referring to the "If I had a son" thing? He was a national hate figure for quite a long period of time. He's obviously not quite right from the experience.

I think that's pretty selective reading.

He said he thinks all people are good at heart, which he then credits to Anne Frank, as it's a pretty famous quotation from her.

I didn't read it as him comparing himself to her at all.

He's not entirely wrong to blame Obama since his administration dug around to bring charges against the guy (though they ultimately failed: http://blogs.wsj.com/law/2015/02/24/holder-no-federal-charges-against-george-zimmerman/) even after the matter was "resolved" simply because they didn't like the outcome...since when does a murder case warrant federal attention anyway?

Obama's "if I had a son" comment was hilarious though undoubtedly accurate for unintended reasons...if I had a son, he wouldn't be punching neighborhood watch members.

Home schooling, in my limited experience (again, not ALL cases), has led to arrogant people who think they're better than those who went to public schools, and they have little in the way of social skills. I consider home schooling to be a great evil.

I don't advocate home schooling in general, but I could see advantages for people living in areas with very poor public schooling.

Anyway, the point of that picture was not to say that the man on the left was perfect in every way. Rather, the death of another person, who looks just as much like a "son of Obama" as Trayvon, received zero media coverage because it couldn't be used by the media and the race baiting douchebags like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to incite racial violence.

There could be some "positives" to being home schooled... though as others have pointed out there are many, many issues. I personally have seen that, generally speaking people who were home schooled and not in a "coop" have very poor social skills. As such they are awkward and tend to not behave in normal ways.

As for the devout in his religion thing... I think that's also something that could be good. Im not a christian (any more), but I think that if it had said "Devout Buddhist" or "Devout Asatrean", "Devout Jew", etc. it would have the same effect in my eyes... The guy is devoted to something higher than "himself" and, we would often assume that he has some moral standards.

I agree with Nuggz... the guy on the left died an ignominious death serving his country... It's kinda hard to use that these days, if you're a Sharpton or Jackson type.

That's not 100% true. There was a WaPo piece, and of course there are dozens of threads where people just like you are using his death to score cheap political points, just like the people you are condemning.

Being as Obama was making the comparison, your statements are moot. He injected himself into the issue.
He jumped to conclusions and made it a national issue. His frequently visiting friend Sharpton caused it.
