I'm going to try to get in on this one.

I don't know what I'll paint as of yet though.

Forgive me now! Tomorrow I may no longer feel guilty...

Ohh I voted for the wrong one >.< I voted for out of place but i thought of something really good for the veteran one.

Vehicles can count as veteran right?

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

What are we classifying as veteran? Are we basically saying it's someone who looks like they have been through hell and back?

Would this be allowed?

I need to start painting them and would be awesome if I could enter with one.

Thatwould be fine. If in doubt, just paint on a medal or give him a fancy hat, and bam, instant Veteran! Besides, who in their right might would say no to a Giant Badger-riding Warrior?

LordRahl wrote: i have this hero clicks LOTR orc that ive started butchering two months ago! now he is in the process of becoming a possessed marine... boot replacement therapy has already taken place, his twig arm has been severed, and his head transplant hasn't been scheduled as of yet, shoulder pads will be added...
would that be considered out of place?

Almost certainly!

The_Grimm_Knight wrote:First I have to apologize about all the questions, I have been away from miniatures for so long that this is basically all new to me again, with that being said, if were interested in painting an Ork for this challenge and Veteran wins, what models would qualify for an entry?

Well, veteran leaves a lot open in terms of what you can do with painting; it's less about the mini, and more about the look of the mini, for example if it looks weathered or old. But for Orks, any kind of Nob/FLash Git/Loota/Warboss that looks the part would be fine!

Yep, a tank that looked right would be perfect.

Yep, basically. As said above, it's more about the look of the mini than the choice of mini, so a good chance to show off weathering/ageing/injury-conversion ect ect.

From your own army, DA, the obvious picks would be anything Ravenwing, Deathwing, Company Vets, Vet Sgt, that short of thing.

Don't post any pics until the challenge thread starts on the1st April, please! By all means take them, but if you can just hang on to them until then that would just make things a little easier for managing it!

I don't want to flood this thread with all my stupid questions, lol, is there a rules thread for this competition? Could someone point me in it's direction if there is, thank you.

See the OP of the current thread for the rules in full. Short version:

1 entry per person, up to 5 (related) models may be submitted in one entry. One proof pic and up to 4 final pics must be submitted to enter/finish. All voting is then done by the community at large. Points get added to a league (10/8/5 for 1st/2nd/3rd respectively and 1 point per completed challenge even if you don't place!)

Hope that clears it up, feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

Voted!

I mean if you disagree with the poll outcome, you could always do an out of place veteran using his book-lamp in bed...

Veteran is a bit vague, I went and took some gnarly looking heads from my bits box and I will string them up like trophies or something.

Had a bit of fun making the model last night, greenstuffed some things for the first time here and there and so on.

Looking forward to these.

Consider me entered!

My badger is paintless, but the rider has some paint on it from a while back, is it ok if the rider has some paint on it? Shall I strip it first?

I think I've got a good model in mind for this. I like the vagueness of the veteran, which looks like it's going to win, oh well

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

So, if I set it up right the Poll should be over now, and Veteran seems to have won, with Out Of Place coming in second (so guaranteed to appear in the next Poll.

The challenge thread will go live on the 1st April, next Wednesday. For those planning models, and since it's been mentioned the theme is (intentionally) vague, here are some things I would certainly consider eligible for the Veteran challenge:

- Any model that has the word "Veteran" in its title, such as a 40k Veteran Sergeant, an Infinity Veteran Kazak, or a LotR Osgiliath Veteran.

- Any model converted/painted to show suitable wear-and-tear for a soldier in the field for a long period of time.

- Any model displaying, bearing or receiving some kind of honour, medal, campaign marking ect.

Obviously that's not exhaustive, but it might give you a few ideas. Like I said before, though, so long as it's not a Cadian Whiteshield Conscript or something, then it's probably good to go! Bear in mind voters will be looking at relevance to the theme as well as just painting skill!

See you there!

Sure, I don't see why not! So long as there's a proof pic of whatever you end up painting then it's fine!

The_Grimm_Knight wrote:Who is charge of these contests?

Ostensibly, I am, but all that really means is that I'll be in charge of keeping posts/threads for the challenges updated. Any actual decisions, such as deciding the theme or the result are all done via community vote!

Don't worry, I'm not some Evil Genius intent on taking over the world via painting contests! Or am I.....?
