If the Conversion Field works, then…
...all units within D6” of the bearer must test as if they had been hit by a weapon with the Blind special rule. Friendly units can re-roll this test.

According to the Blind rules…
Should the attacking unit hit themselves…they automatically pass the test.

If the Conversion Field works, does the unit using it need to make a Blind test, or does the “Friendly units” part only refer to other nearby units on your side?

I'd say "other" friendlies only. Not the model's own unit.

That was my original thought, but then I started thinking about the D6" range. It seems pretty unlikely that it would ever hit another friendly unit, so why bother with the "friendly" part of the rule at all?

If you are in a multi-Unit close combat (which is quite likely seeing a few of the new Admech are fast and pretty killy in CC) then you are very likely to have a model from another Unit within D6", especially if the model equipped is a character (that will often challenge).

Covering their bases i guess?

Unless their RaI was based on the blind "affecting" your own Unit rather that "Hit", and the second quote would not apply? But that seems like a stretch...

It seems to me that the bearer's unit must test as if they had been hit by a weapon with the Blind special rule as per the Conversion Field rules... but it automatically passes as per the Blind rules.

Wow, guess I've been playing my conversion field librarians wrong this whole time. I do genuinely think the blind rule would mean you can't blind yourself.

That's what we're all agreeing on?

As per the BRB "..If the attacking unit hits themselves they auto-pass..."

Conversion field has no weapon profile and doesn't shoot or count as a weapon in melee.

There is no attack being made when the Blind test occurs. Ergo, the squad and any unit within d6" makes the save with friendly units haveing a re-roll

At least that is my interpretation

While the field is not a weapon, you treat the effect as if it was.
