The Last Chancer Who Survived
|
I have recently put together a few models to use as Imperial Guardsmen. The only person I am currently able to play against likes them, and is happy to call them guardsmen. What I would like to know is if you would say the same if I brought them into a wargaming club of some sort (not tourney or GW, obviously).
The soldiers with red shoulders are carrying a proxy meltagun, everyone else is carrying a proxy lasgun:
EDIT: Thanks Insaniak

I don't see why not, so long as you can be consistent about what they're armed with.

They seem just fine to me! Guardsmen are pretty open to interpretation, I think. They're supposed to come from all over the galaxy, from literally thousands or millions of different cultures and traditions. They can look like just about anything, so long as they're humans holding guns.

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?
|
I really can't see why anyone wouldn't! They look the part, they are nicely painted and the one area that might cause a tiny amount of confusion (the Meltas) has already been addressed!
I have used those minis myself for years and got nothing but positive comments for having a unique army. Anyone who would have a problem is probably not the kind of person you'd want to play with anyway.

I have a few boxes of them I use for veterans or stormtroopers. They even have have a heavy weapon set with "squatters".
I found that the spare plastic flamers/ melta guns and plasma guns convert onto them easily. Likewise the metal once that come in the pack with the attached right hand.
Good stuff

I also have these guys. Not the best minis in the world but well worth the price, they even fit nicely the 40k scale and aesthetics.
Also, attaching some meltas and plasmas onto them is a doable task, although you'll may need a bit of green stuff for the arms to fit smoothly (I did).

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.
GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get. |

The models are consistently armed, it is clear they have the same or different weapons. I'm sure you would state what each weapon is if asked and y'know, I'm fine with that.
Only a self-righteous sprat would say no to you using them so go for it!

They look fine to me.
In a perfect world, the special weapons would either be the real bit, or at least incredibly similar, but the paint does a good job of making them stand out.
As a fellow 3rd party Guard collector, keep on keeping on.

these were actually my idea submission to Wargames Factory "Liberty and Union" League like seven years ago or so. I've still got a bunch of boxes of them that I haven't done anything with yet (they took like two years to actually come out with them after I'd submitted the idea and had some internal company drama).
But yes nobody should have an issue with those as Guardsmen aside from GW

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

It's a unmodified human soldier with a rifle. As long as it is an unmodified human soldier with a rifle they look the part for a Guardsman. Just give them suitable counts-as weapons (Or the real deal) to represent special/heavy weapons.
