I played necrons against orcs at 1,5k. He got only 3 x 30 boyz with nob, PK, bp. I barely killed 2 mobs, at turn 5, not mention that 12 wraits was in combat for about 1,5 turn (3 comabats) vs 30 boyz he got also 2dakka jets and 3 x5 mek gunz.
At this points he could take 6x 30 boyz with nob and i think i couldnt deal with that list.
So how many boyz is enough to swarm whole table and left almost nothing.
At 1850 i saw list with 8x30 boyz warboss and 2 painboyz.

There's a formation called the Green Tide - essentially it's a single mob with a minimum of 100 boyz in it. Expect a painboy for excessive rage-inducing.
Having 'enough boyz' is like having 'enough dakka'. It's a worthy goal but it's not achievable in reality.

The truest essence of 40k is a 10k point apocalypse game with nothing but ork green tides and tyranid endless swarms.
But yes, you really can't go wrong with more boyz in an Ork list as long as you can fit in the points The alterations to mob rule do hurt, but most armies wish they had basic grunts as versatile and cost effective as the average shoota boy.
Just make sure you have enough points left over for AA, MC-killing, and vehicle cracking. Luckily, the Orks have really great anti-air in the form of the Traktor Kannon and Dakkajets, and the new codex has much more reliable anti-vehicle options than the last one; particularly at range, and because pretty much all Ork shooting has great weight of fire, most ork anti-vehicle options can also work against monstrous creatures. Brought Tankbustaz into a game against Tyranids? No worries, they can kill pretty much every TMC that isn't a flier or a Tyrannofex pretty easily.

Shoota boyz aren't 6 points anymore. To explain let me put it this way. Boyz are exactly like Dakka, you can never have enough. When it comes down to it everything in your army is technically boyz, unless they are nobz or bosses (bigger boyz). The only way you could have enough boyz is exactly like enough dakka in that the boyz would have to occupy every single inch of the table for the entire game including the parts where your enemies should be. Only then can you come even remotely close to having enough boyz. But even at that point you can still stack more on top. The simple answer is you can never have enough. The serious answer is probably around 100 vs an elite army or against an army with very little template and blast weapons. It becomes just too many models to kill and the fact that on average a single 6 or 7 point boy can put out 3 or 4 attacks a turn returns a volume to the enemy that is hard to compete with. That said if you face IG they will likely have a good deal of templates along with anyone who knew they were facing orks. Bring something to snipe (as much as orks can actually snipe) their templates and blast weapons and then reign free dominating the board.

Unfortunately the rules won't let you stack Boyz on top of each other, so the biggest number you can have is probably in the hundreds, depending on the board size. A shame.

Play 2nd Edition, when the Ork transport rules allowed you to put as many Boyz in the transport as you could physically pile on. But, if any fell off during movement, they took a hit of the appropriate strength value.

I played a minimum size green tide in my FLGS (plus a few nobs, of course) for the last 3 games and just about got jeered out of the store for cheese.
It's a very powerful unit against the vast majority of lists out there. What surprises most people is how lethal it is. Nothing (other than invis or some equal level of shenanigans) lasts longer than a turn or two in the sea of boys and klaws, doesn't matter how big it is.
I hate to poison this thread with talk of the new eldar, but it won't stand up to the new jetbikes at all and I'll have to stop playing it. A roughly equal (slightly smaller) points investment of jetbikes will kill the whole squad in 2 turns. This is, unfortunately, going to be the true death of boyz in our locale.

More boyz is always good to have. Careful, players might still be stuck in old edition mentality. 7th edition any unit can capture objectives and most Ork stuff got cheaper. It's not necessarily boyz before toyz anymore. But still being able to drop more dice then the enemy can save is still the reliable approach for an Ork army, so moar Boyz!

Yeah, I love footslogging armies. That said, they really go down fast compared to older editions. Especially once the templates start flying - and all the AP weaponry. And everything with a higher Initiative. The Boyz are great in H2H. But there's so much out there these days that's designed to take down rank and file. Plus of course, Ork armor is poor. Ork armies do best with more armor these days, especially Battlewagons. You have to make sure they can get to the battle. Anything shot on the way there suffers greatly.
All this said, a KFF is your best friend. Sometimes I take two.

Wrong. A foot is 144 square inches and a standard board has 24 of them. You can literally fit thousands of small bases on the table, and then there are reserves...

Orks are so fun. 120 might be enough. Getting in your own way gets to being a problem beyond that. Deployment zones and terrain and the like... But you can fi about 150 total models out there with ease.
