Indeed there is a shipping cost if you're in the US. It's just subsidized by ROW backers!

Sorta like whenever you buy anything with "free shipping" to the US ROW subsidizes it.

Thanks. I must have been confused with the recent DZ pledge manager. Not sure I see the bargains as such a bargain when shipping keeps going up.

Its not even worth bothering with this campaign for me with shipping cost plus the crazy drop in $CDN value. Interestingly for regular retail reaper offers free shipping to Canada but doesnt offer it for the kickstarter campaigns. Im really curious about why. Why ecen bother providing free shipping to canada for regular purchases? As far as i know theyre the only minis retailer to do it. Im not sure if its because of a deal with RAFM or not.

At the Reaper webstore, you pay full MSRP. "Free shipping" is never free, and, at the free shipping threshold, the company makes enough money from your purchase to pay for shipping. I imagine Reaper will still not pay customs and other fees. Several ROW posters said that, even with shipping and other fees, the Reaper KS is *still* less expensive than what they would pay retail. If you only want a few pieces from the KS, stick to the $1 level and pick up only the pieces you really want.

Yea, I am not sure where the "ROW subsides free US shipping" comes from. It seems more likely that the shipping to the US is built into the base price, and ROW pays on top. If anything, people living close to TX subsidize people who live far away in the US.

I suppose it is possible that it is not true, but considering how few ROW backers there are going to be due to the really quite high ROW shipping charges there is really going to be very little subsidy for US backers.

If they use flat rate boxes domestically, US shipping might not change much (assuming similar size at least) whether it's down the street or on the other side of the continent.

But yeah, this many campaigns in I'd assume they have a solid grasp on shipping and whatever amount is 'baked in' to the tier covers most or all of US domestic.

With differing costs based on country of origin for ROW folks, nobody but Reaper knows where that line lands, but at least with Bones 1 (with the figures they gave at the beginning of Bones 2), they spent nearly half a million dollars on freight/UPS/USPS alone, so it's a sizable portion of their campaign no matter how we cut it.

And frankly, with the deal we've got (and the deal we'll have once two weeks have elapsed) I'm not going to quibble over $5 or $10 in shipping.

I'm not too convinced that, unlike CMON and Mantic, Reaper will make KS part of its business model. If it doesn't, it explains why Reaper hasn't put more effort in overseas fulfillment centers. Sticking to roleplaying games, Reaper didn't go after wargames or boardgames, either. CMON and Mantic did, and had phenomenal growth in the last few years, no doubt in part thanks to KS as a business model. Reaper already has a skirmish game, Warlord, but if you saw the video I reposted, Reaper said they didn't have the expertise to publish books. Given how CMON and Mantic show how well the model of "giving away software to sell hardware" works, I personally think that this is a mistake, as is focusing on roleplayers as a target audience.

We'll see in ten or twenty years. Maybe I'll have finished painting my Bones by then!

Next add-on at $1.1M!

Given that they just updated, apparently yes, yes they do.

Great actually. I got a few in my own paint box. I just don't use them as much as vallajo since I can get the latter locally. But I like their blueish greys they make for painting drow skin. No one else really sells that.

Yep. Good. If you're a new painter, though, you might want to start with more opaque paints, such as their HD paints, or Army Painter sets.

Our original Master Series Paint was designed by Anne Foerster, who is a multiple international award winning painter, who said I need a paint I don’t have to futz with. She had been using a couple of our competitors GW and Citadel and Vallejo and some of those, and was always adding additives and additional mixtures and working to make the paint work. She said I want to make one that works the way I want it. So she developed our Master Series Paint. We’ve been working on that for years now and it’s been incredibly popular. But one of the biggest complaints we got was because it’s designed by a pro painter, with layering and blending and those kinds of techniques in mind, it’s a little thing and doesn’t have tremendously good coverage. It does cover but sometimes you need two or three or four coats because we wanted to layer with it and blend with it. So we developed the HD paints so that we have a one or two coat solution. We have a one coat solution on everything but our red. Our HD Red I believe still requires two coats. But even the HD yellow is a one coat coverage over your primer and it’s amazing. So it’s really great for your based coat, really great for your foundation. Or if you are a novice painter it’s really good to get you started in painting without having to worry about all the techniques of an advanced painter.

I like dragons, but I wish they would do some other kinds of large monsters, like Chimera, Manticore, Wyvern, etc. That would be nice for me, because I'm trying to complete my Warhammer Quest monsters, and could save a lot of money if more of them could be had in bones.

So when are they likely to add an expansion on? It seems to have stabilized at one stretch goal a day or so, with a very lively comments presence by reaper maintaining interest. The core still looks half finished compared to Bones 2.
Did they keep adding to the core once the expansions were out with 2, or did they finish it first?

A set I actually like. But I think I can still just wait till retail for these and cherry pick the ones I want. I might not save as much, but the piles (multiple s) won't get too much bigger.
