Trust me, you don't want any of their bases, they're pretty much crap. Got a bunch free with Bones2 and I've used exactly 3 of them. The plastic itself is really thin and at 4mm tall they're too tall to match pretty much anything else out on the market (3mm would have been the ideal thickness). It's pretty hard to think of a less exciting stretch goal, those should really be paid addons instead.

As a paid add-on we would've had to unlock them. Instead.. we get them tossed in as a gimme... no unlock necessary. I'm glad they did it the way that they did. As ReaperBryan said..they had two choices... give bases or give nothing. It was never give bases or give more models.

I feel a little cold about some of the randomness of the stretch goals here. It seems like "goals" just happen suddenly, popping up without any idea they were coming. Maybe I am just not paying as much attention as I usually do, but it all just feels arbitrary, not a "goal" as such.

They alternate freebies with paid options, while sometimes throwing in a surprise. The surprises and doubles are usually more mundane things like paints or bases that people would complain about if they were a "real goal".

They need to start unveling some exciting stuff to get this one moving. Saving everything for the final weekend just doesn't make any sense. Sure, end with Tiamat. But there's a lot of stuff they previewed they can start releasing as add-ons as well. Or unveil more of the Stoneskull expansion - it's going to get less people pledging because there isnt $50 retail worth of stuff in it now. But they want you to pledge to "unlock" the reveal of what you pledged for. And they just randomly throw out stuff like the weapon packs or bases. While nice, there's no drive to pledge because who knows when the next random bonus is coming. This one is really awkwardly run in comparison to the previous ones.
I guess you need to experiment with the formula from time to time, but were I them, I'd be pulling out the stops with a little over a week to go. Short campaigns normally hit 1 paycheck for people, 2 of they are lucky. The sooner they have a reason to work their budget for a pledge the better for the campaign. If they sit on too much of the cool stuff, they might find their many of their customers' paychecks are spent.
Maybe, but how big is the market for some cannon? It takes time for stories to circulate and post on news sites, and they need to give people time to stumble upon it and pledge. We're clued in and obsessively check this sort of thing (OK, at least I do lol). And releasing it tomorrow, yeah, that's a fair amount of time. But sitting on Tiamat until the final day? By the time Joe Schmoe dungeon master learns of it, it may be too late.

Unless of course you are not OCD about your bases, and then they work perfectly fine.
My biggest irritation with this, and it's not just Reaper, but it's having stretch goals that unlock to give us a chance to pay for stuff.
CMON used to do this but seems to have moved away from it, just putting the option up to buy extra stuff for those who are interested, leaving stretch goals to purely unlock new content for everyone.
If I remember last time Reaper did the expansions, didn't they just end up showing everything all at once in the end, since it was taking so long to get to the point where extra stuff showed up in the expansions?
Feels like there were also a lot more optional pieces to buy at this point in the campaign the last time.
At least the expansion should unlock soon and we'll see what's after the Pathfinder stuff (which I'm kinda sore about since I just ordered the metals of some of those guys).
Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
I think this is a misconception.
They set a funding goal to create a certain amount of miniatures. They met that but.. we kept throwing money at them. So.. they are adding additional content that wouldn't have been available without the additional funding.
NOW.. some people (..maybe me) are pledging based on speculation of things that might get added.. and that's where the problem you're describing comes in. Reaper doesn't add X-amount of things and then hope that they can cover it in the production costs. That's foolish. However, many of us have pledged as though there will be a huuuge plethora of things added.. which is a pretty safe bet but if it doesn't get that far (...which come on..they know what they're doing).. then we can back down our pledges.
This entire thing is already a good value. If it ended right now, I would be pleased with what I have. I have seen the preview pictures I linked a few posts back and I assume at least some of those are going to make it and that has me excited. Try to remain patient and if that proves too challenging then maybe just check back in the final 48 hours.
RE: - Should be further along than this. Despite this being a shorter campaign, on average, this is beating out the corresponding days from previous barring day 1. Remember that a huge portion (ie most) of the funds raised by the previous 2 were done at the beginning and end. This one has had steady growth which is not something that can be said about the others despite what many people are maintaining. The campaign is exceeding Reapers' own expectations according to what they're saying in the comments and I would assume that by the end, a lot of naysayers are going to be eating their words.

I wouldnt be too sore on that. I threw away a fair amount of my Bones 1 because the detail was so soft. WK Reynolds puts a billion tiny buckles, studs, icons etc on his artwork, and it did not translate well.
A lot of that detail on the warpriest, investigator, bloodrager is going to be lost unless they have seriously stepped up their formula. Bones works well for big things or smaller stuff with hard and clean lines. Those crusaders for example will work well. The new PF iconics, I'm not sure on...

Trade 'em to me! Trade 'em to me! Trade 'em to meeeeee!
Good points, all. I particularly agree with MLaw. I think the free SG's should also have their add-on costs attached, so existing pledgers can pledge more money!
It'd be nice to have that info immediately at hand (on the graphic/in the update), but they do seem to be good about updating the 'add more for $x' bit at the bottom, so it's available to those that desire it.
As for the bases; 60k seemed like a big hike for a SG, I suspected something would be tucked at the 1.190m mark, and lo, it was.
It's not an easy expectation to manage, but having been through this a few times, believe me, '30k for bases, blaaaaah' would've been proclaimed by many. This way it simply becomes a 'freebie'; same end result (at that total we got a new thing) but a 'lackluster goal' doesn't suppress enthusiasm.
And we're about to tick over to 1.220m with the corresponding unlock and new unveiling. I thought people wanted shorter SGs in the doldrums of the campaign? We were just complaining about that a page or two ago. :-P
Literally $142 from the next unlock, so expect it any moment now, barring shenanigans or hi-jinks.

Most of the waves shipped within the same week IIRC. I was wave 2 but they were flying through the waves extremely fast.. which was amazing considering how accurate the order was.
BrookM wrote: Very much tempted to drop my own $100 wave one whatever deal for a $1 pledge instead. The core deal is anything but interesting to me right now.
Brook - You don't have to buy core.. it structured so that you can select whatever you want totalling to your pledge during the KS. Hop in the Pledge Calculator on the front page and see..
