Thanks, I'll take a peek. PVC... is surprising. I thought PVC was the blade breaking flash flared stuff of hobbyist nightmares from following Mantic and Soda Pop threads. I don't really hear the same about bones stuff although I do recall some paint sticking and sponge-ieness issues a while back.

Some pieces are better cast than others, and long thin parts tend to bend.

On the whole, the material is super easy to work with. You will want to brush on primer though, as aerosols will melt it. And since it's highly hydrophobic, you can only gently thin your paint with water.

It sounds like more of a PITA than it actually is.

Thanks. The brush on primer sounds like a pain though. I wonder if the "acrylic" spray primers work on it or if it is something in the propellant that affects the material.

it's the propellent. There are multiple threads on this in the Reaper forums, but Reapers official policy is that they don't need primers. Which is actually true!

I use brush on primer, but i've also just "primed" with craft paint of an appropriate color. So Orcs might get a leather brown base coat, elves might get a forest green base coat, etc.

I just wash them with soap and water and then paint directly onto the minis. The first coat cannot be thinned with water, though.

Because someone can actually pull this off!

Brown liner is commonly used by the Reaperites : http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62148-brown-liner/

One difference is that Bones aren't priced like metals/resins/HIPS, which is what some companies think they can charge for them. Bones are basically prepainted minis, without the prepaint. Most are fairly bendy.

The actual cannon will be in a high impact styrene which according to Reaper, is very similar to what GW is using. The crew and other bits are likely going to be in the more pliable bones material. They have done this for things like their dumpster and the wings on the clockwork dragon.

I can also say from experience that Army Painter primers work a treat!

A friend uses Dupli-Color sandable primers, and reports no problems - but a friend that uses Krylon primers says that Krylon is a no-go.

The trick with PVC is to slice, not scrape, with your knife.

It is tough and elastic, so gets ridges if you scrape - but if you slice you get a thin thread of plastic, and leave a clean surface.

So it looks like the completion date for the 3rd KS is Sep/Oct 2016... how reliable is that? I know the first one was a few months late (perfectly acceptable given the scope) but I don't know about the second one. Is that full year inbetween padding the date a fair amount or should we really expect a full year? I'd have no issues waiting that time but figured I'd ask since Reaper seems to be more responsilbe than most minis companies that do Kickstarters (*cough* Palladium, Prodos *cough*). Maybe it's because I've been on the outside looking in and I'm used to companies severely under estimating but that time frame feels a bit long even given the number of minis.

I'd say that's probably a slightly pessimistic delivery date. They've done three of these now and know how it works, and they've probably baked in a major and a few minor delays into the estimate.

Bones 2 shipped late for the first couple of waves, early for the latter waves. I'm expecting their estimate to be spot on for at least one wave.

I'd say they're more reliable in getting the mini's made, but I can't think of any company who could give accurate shipping dates because much of shipping is out of control. Most retail companies will only give an estimate which quarter they will ship, while KS forces companies to narrow it down to the month. FFG's progress and shipping schedule is one of the more transparent production schedules I've seen. Some fans of a game will even post on BGG changes in a game's schedule.

Almost no kickstarters ship early, and certainly not ones with so many moving parts that only ship out once.

Late 2016 is probably reliable.

I use Army Painter sprays on Bones as well with no problems. Airbrushed acrylics and inks work pretty well too. I haven't tried Rustoleum automotive primer yet, but I might give that a go as well.

If Vic's cannon is $30 in the kickstarter, does that mean it's going to be $45-$50 at retail? I'm not seeing the advantage of that.

In the Vic thread she predicted it would more like $75 retail.

played the first 3 or 4 levels. pretty simple, but nice enough. nice controls. I like the 8bit aesthetic, with some good lighting effects.
no real scoring method that I could see though - you just have to kill x amount of enemies to progress to the next level, but there's no timer or score to let you know whether you are doing well or not...

Wellp, that settles it. I'll be pledging for Shubby-Wubby and not the stubby-chubby.

Part three of the blue expansion is visible now, and it is pretty joyless. Only the naga and Karist Iron Man look good, and they're both concept art.

The Stoneskull expansion is like a collection of weird stuff they were confident selling as individual add-ons so they lumped them all together for $50 so the price per model would be low enough that you just go "Eh, what the hell" and just plunk down $50 for it now and figure out what you could use them for later.

Yeah, I kind of feel it was just intended to shut up the commentors clamoring for plant monsters. I'd just plop down a piece of raw broccoli, personally. That stuff even makes orks explode.

That being said, if you are into golems, that expansion does contain a huge variety of them.

That is true. One more expansion to go, and if it isn't based around a frost sorceress, a reindeer rider and several transparent bonesium snow creatures, it may very well be sci-fi. Apparently four female monsters are also waiting in the wings.
